Does anybody know how to get a better charge? I'm using 12mm static grass with the Woodland Senics applicator. I'm also using Elmer's Glue all,
Slightly watered down. The grass does not seem to stand up and I guess I'll post more photos once the glue is dried. PLEASE TELL ME ANY ADVICE YOU HAVE FOR STATIC GRASS!!! Unless this is how it's supposed to look..........
Do a smaller area, so the charge is not spread out too far, that will likely help add the grass slowly

the more surface area you do in one go the harder the static had to work, it should literally stand up

You can use wood chip type if no static applicator,

but for that sways in the wind effect

something has to give I end up with patchier of the really tall stuff
but you do not need soldier straight these are less upright but photograph ok

in my experience I like it better with a slightly thinner grass and a good earth tone showing through, and a worn edge

the undercut effect of the water on the soil works ok with some grass leaning over, as this happens in nature

low angle photo taking shows it best of course

this was more luck than judgement before I realised a smaller patch is easier to cope with, and it lets you practise and get confidence, and not waste loads if it goes wrong

So you got me thinking so I did a test, same applicator and I used static-tac glue.
The green is 4mm and 7&12mm straw.
The first thing I did was sanded the paint off the supplied fancy ground.
spread the glue pretty thin.
Im pretty happy for the first test.
Kinda hard to see from phone pics. View attachment 163356View attachment 163357View attachment 163358View attachment 163359View attachment 163360View attachment 163361
Well I think we cab definitely say you got it :)
do not forget to show us the result once on the layout as well, nicely done

Hey folks, I'm back on this thread again . My Woodland Scenics Static King has been working great for the past few months, but while I was using it this last weekend, the solder joint between the wire and the alligator clip came undone. Will this affect how well it works?

Just like any broken/loose solder connection - either will work, work intermittently or not at all. Carefully solder it back together making sure you have a good mechanical connection and no 'cold' solder blobs.

Later

Oh, and 'A Normal, Regular, Train Fan'? What is that? I don't think any of us are ..um.. normal as we play with trains!

Exactly! I'm just as normal as the next guy! (so not normal)
