Speedometer

I've always wanted a speedometer to test all my locomotives and make sure they were all speed matched, this way, I could put any locomotives together for consists. The idea was to have one on my test track where I do my work and have another on the layout somewhere for making sure that people who would handle the trains would know how fast they are going.

The only problem was the cost, $70 US or $110 CDN (both plus shipping) times two, so that would be about $250 for me. With Arduino, we're talking about $12 CDN total for each, so it was worth making my own and especially the way I wanted it. (km or mph)

So I got it working, now I just need to install it on my layout. Here are some pictures:

Hi,

Interesting.

I measure speed over a 100" length so minor variations have less effect on the result.
