Ok, recently I got back into HO trains (wished I'd a thunk N but oh well). I had this train back in HS and now have a use for it. Any ideas where I can get the new black plastic "detail" pieces for the trucks? Thanks and look forward to contributing here!!

There are many sources for side frames, being an Athearn unit , call or e-mail Athearn and ask for a set of EMD GP side frames.

When you get the new ones, slightly pinch the plastic mounting pins with pliers before installing. I had a set that kept coming loose - did that first and they're not going anywhere now. Or you can glue them, whatever works.

where are you at on the DME line

On some frames, I use Aleen's Tacky Glue. That works to hold them in place, and doesn't dry out hard.
