i think the siren is to warn people at crossing that it is not clear yet. notice gates are opening barely after the last piece crossed. once i seen gates opening even before the last MOW vehicle came through. i actually was first at the crossing, gates already opened and I already started to move when i suddenly see another crane passing by. had i floored it (as i sometimes do) we both probably would have had an "oh sh...t!" moment

oh and yeah- i think you will be much better off with slightly better tripod to shoot from

The reason why I don't use tripods is they get in my way and take too long to set up and take down, making me miss shots.Plus I can't get shots I want.If I set up a tripod at the time I got this video,I would've missed it.That's why I'll never use a tripod. And I move around a lot.

hmmm, i thought you did use tripod on some other vids of yours. the pan job following that UP couple definetly had tripod (although with to stiff of a pan resistance). or perhaps i thought it were your vids and youtube redirected me elswhere.
but regardless, its is your choice of course.

It kind of seemed like he did it for you. Same way an engineer would toot the horn for someone as a way to say hi. Had that done to me one time watching a train passing by a few months ago.

It's a Federal PA300, no doubt about that. The airhorn is very distinctive. Putting on a Federal is a lot less expensive than a regular air horn, compressor, and an air tank. What I'm confused about is why he didn't just use the airhorn function. Combining the two will only confuse traffic since they don't expect an emergency vehicle to be on the ROW. I'm assuming this happened in Arkansas, which may have different laws about sirens. In California, only authorized emergency vehicles are allowed to have sirens. I'm pretty sure that tractor didn't qualify as an authorized emergency vehicle. He would have gotten a citation if I was at that crossing and the laws are the same in Arkansas as in California.

One woman that heard it told me she thought it was a police car out there.

Too slow, too.I prefer doing videos the way I've always done them, holding my camera.

then you either need this- steadycam merlin or invest in large shoulder held cam.
the point is your vids are quite shaky, hek, every single hand held vid is shaky. something needs to be done about that shakiness. if good videos is your goal of course.

That camera has an antishake feature.Ok enough about tripods and monopods.Either no video or videos as they are.And I'm finished with this issue.
