OK Here's an idea I've aways wanted to try. Maybe someone more talented than me (Most of you) will be able to pull this off. Since there isn't much to see under the dome. (Or it can be blocked by shades) Why not do what they do in those museum battle scenes and make the upper seats so they rotate around. People on one side, empty on the other. If you were really swift you could trigger it coming through the station. Just another certifiable crazy idea of mine. Oh and do the reverse with the station platform for further fun!
I've always wanted to do a station platform that was three sided, one with a few figures, one empty one full of people. Then have it flip or rotate as the train aproaches. If it flipped fast enough you wouldn't see it turn.
Then there's the old "My God look at the size of that cat!" while pointing away from the scene.
Might work in a dome car.
But if I can see the people inside then the car will look a bit odd sitting in the yard.
Best solution is to have doubles of each car. One for running the rails and one to sit.

The trick would be to position the platform so the train is in front of it and blocks the view when its flipped. Train pulls in with platform filled. Train pulls out and its empty. Or how about figures walks towards the track and then have then walking away?
I have older Business cars at the end of my consists (well at least one) and I have the conductor out on the porch waiting for something. Seems to pull off an illusion of dropping off one engine and waiting for the next.

I like the way you think! Now all I have to do is get the wife on board with it...

Take her out to dinner, get her "Tipsy" and have her sign a contract granting you the funding for equipment.

Why not just make 2 sets of interiors. One populated with figures and one that is empty. Make the roof removable so you can swap them out just like a coal load in a hopper car or a gondola load.
Wow there is some good ideas I like what Chevelle guy said about the dual interiors I think we got a winner with that one
P.S. GO MOPAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahahahahahaha
