SD70M Project !!

I picked up an undec Athearn Genisis SD70M on Ebay for $40.00 !!!! So I sent it to the shop. I dont have a road name yet, probably Norfolk Southern, still looking at prototypes???
So far I've added flared radiators from a Railpower SD90MAC kit. I kept the genisis fans, 'cause Railpowers fans didnt quite have the detail I was looking for! I have just started to add grabs and other details so I can primer it. I will post the progress of this project

Josh, can't wait to see the finished product!
Did Conrail ever have any of those animals? That would look so much better than plain NS black (just my .02)...

Here are some shots of NS SD70M (Phase II) diesels:

Gray Ghosts:

Notice the angle of the flare isn't as pronounced on the SD70M Phase II as it is on the SD9043MAC or SD90MAC. It's more like a GP40X or SD45 in terms of angle, but more like the SD90 in terms of shape.

Some UP flares:

Looking good so far, I hope these images help.

csxmu, you should start a thread for kitbashing, would be great! just a thought.;)

Well I can see that the flare is wayy too wide to be prototypical for any SD70M so maybe a freelance RR might be an idea worth considering.

Well I have decided to keep this engine for my layout! It will be the New power for Aughwick Valley Railroad ( AVRR ) I have detailed and primed the engine, you will have pics when paint dries. But here is what the new SD60M-2 is going to look like. Thats right SD60M-2!!!! Tell me what you think!!! The white on the trucks is to show detail. The only white will be on the roof.

That would be sweet!! :D
I have just finished taping the body off for the yellow paint !

Here are some new pics of my SD60M-2. My air brush is not working properly, so I decided to hand paint the yellow. It will be smoothed out before I dull coat.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who sometimes dabs-on paint with a brush!:D If you do it just right, there's no brush lines. I always have to make sure the surface I'm painting can be kept in a perfectly horizontal position so the paint won't run.

Looks great, keep us updated!

Brushing is awsome! 'Cept those bush lines obviously. I gotta admin though, I'm the MASTER of spray cans, but not quite the airbrush yet, lol

I've finished the drawing with the radiator section and all,
