I had to look twice at your picture, thought you were shot in the chest at first. 🤪
 
Always interested in scratch-building methods. The best clear flat coat I have found is the Tamiya. Most flat coats, when cured, have a mat finish. The primary paint type used is solvent. I use the Tamiya sprayed as a last coat.

Question: Where did you find the wooden deck? Is it a separate detail medium or a kit part?

To be clear, I am speaking of the boards & nails...... If you made that, for sure, that would be an interesting process.:)
