Hello

I am fairly new to HO scale modeling, and want to build a typical country barn out of square dowels and basswood. I am not sure as to the exact dimensions which would be scale to HO.....mainly how long should the wide and smaller sides of the barn be, and how tall should the center of the roof be.

Any help you could provide would be very helpful.

Wow, that's kind of like asking how big a layout should be. :) Barns varied from big enough for a few dairy cows to massive structures that held 300 cows and a couple of thousand tons of hay in the loft. How big also depends on how much room you have on your farm. Is there some specific prototype that makes you want to scratchbuild this barn? There are a lot of realy nice barns on the market that don't cost much more than the scratchbuilding supplies. Have a look at http://www.walthers.com/exec/search...rds=restrict&instock=Q&split=30&Submit=Search for some examples.

How to build your barn

I guess it was late at night . . . I screwed something up!
