This engine doesn't have the full wide shell like the picture & there's some other differences.

Its a pretty unique prototype, only 25 were made, all for cp. They were produced in brass, but thats a little rich for my wallet!

Never built one but, if it will fit on a Kato SD40-2 frame, it should be reasonably easy to modify it for an Athearn frame. I know of at least a couple of guys who used the Kato shell on an Athearn frame so it should work in reverse.

Larry, that is not a SD40T-2.It is a SDP 40 which simply means it is equipt with a steam boiler for passenger car heating.Nice looking unit though.

Actually, it is as the designation states. It is an SD40-2F -full cowl body. It was built for our colder climate up here. These were built for CP long after they halted passenger service, so there is no steam gennie in them. Here is some more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GMD_SD40-2F

Yep, you're right. Don't know why I said it was SD40T-2. Guess cause when I got it from EBay that was on the box. OH well, live & learn. I have a hard time recognizing any kind of engine w/out looking it up in my diesel book & then sometimes the pictures don't line up w/the actual engine. LOL
