Can anyone tell me about Santa Fe's Cylindrical hoppers? I notice some are in the standard ATSF freight car brown and others are gray. Were the gray one's used for MOW? What era are they from? I see Intermountain is releasing some gray ones and wondering if I should reserve mine...

Many Thanks!

The Santa Fe started to use cylindrical hoppers in the latge 60's with more being built in the late 70's. The gray cars were generally assigned to salt cake or cement service. The mineral red cars were assigned to general service and could be found carrying almost any type of non-corrosive chemical. The one being released by Intermountain were mostly retired by the mid-90's although there may still be a few around in private owner service. To my knowledge, none were ever used in MOW service. A gray paited car doesn't necessarily mean it was in MOW service

According to the information at the link:

Built: NEW MARCH 1973

Many have been retired in the last few years.
