Running DCC on DC

I just received an Atlas RS-2 DCC model. I don't have a DCC set up yet so just tried it on DC. It works find if the throttle is cranked up but have a question. The directional lights seem to be opposite to the forward/reverse setting. That is when going forward the reverse light comes on and when going in reverse the forward light comes on. Is this just an artifact of running a DCC loco on a DC setup? I tried reversing the +/- connections to the rails but got the same results. When I try my straight DC loco's on the rails forward and reverse lighting work fine. Thanks.
 
Yes - I'm hesitant to change anything inside loco without trying on DCC first. Just wondering if anybody else has seen this same behavior with DCC on a DC layout. I also sent the question to Atlas but they seem to take some time before answering questions.
