Good afternoon, all, and those checking out Terry with a la coochie. Who knew?
A very warm start to the day and 95 is the target temp predicted. Not sure what the wife has planned for the day.

Terry - congrats on the house. I'm sure living in something a little more substantial will be nice.
Louis - Though I didn't make 6' 9" I did make 6' 5". Being the tallest kid in the class meant none of the class bullies picked on me. I could eat the folks out of house and home. 10 sandwiches, was nothing, 30 pancakes, easy. My father once told my aunt that feeding me was "like feeding buns to a bear". The only thing I will not eat is parsnips.
Dave - "Wait till your father gets home", must have been in the "How To Be a Parent" handbook back then. Unfortunately, it has been redacted.

STAY SAFE
LATER
Mom rarely waited for dad to get home, she handled it. I did hear that phase a few times though in the house. If mom said, wait till ur dad gets home we were seriously screwed…

Terry congrats on the new home!
Willie, that BN gondola actually looks like a nice weathering job already.
My Mom didn't wait for Dad either, she would handle it right then. Thank God for parents that made me a decent human being.
Nice day at Church today, relaxing now, checking the forums out.

Hello everyone!

I don’t know about anybody else, but this year has been flying by! The leaves are starting to change color here in New England and for me, I’m always a little down when that happens. It seems like just last week the leaves were off the trees and snow was abundant. Around this time, I usually begin to reflect on my layout projects and what I’ve accomplished during the year.

My plan for the VTR/GMRC build this year was benchwork, track work, wiring, and painting/ballasting the track. I’m currently on schedule (I think) but before I know it, the year will be coming to a close. I’ve learned a lot and it’s been really enjoyable to build a project I’ve wanted to build for some time. Definitely proud of my accomplishments! What about everyone else, did you learn anything new in the hobby that you’re proud of?

Also, for those that are interested…here’s a layout update on the VTR/GMRC build:)

Hoping to have a layout update on the thread soon.

I used to go to shows, not so much now and used to take pictures of stuff I thought worth the effort. Some of the grandad layouts for the kids were so cool, the kids at the show were so excited

I can relate to all of that.

Have you tried parsnips? I have no idea what they are. It took me fifty years to try Brussel Sprouts only to found out they are little cabbages, I love cabbage! As Dave @logandsawman said, it was all in my head.

I have one of these

I made an offer on this at eBay yesterday. I never expected it to be accepted, but you never know. To my surprise the offer was accepted. A GG1 and race car with Christmas decorations, made in the USA, why not?

Parsnips are generally used as a garnish for food, and are not eaten. Come to think of it, it’s been a very long time since I’ve even seen parsnips on a plate of food. Probably because it does nothing for the food, other than make it look more appealing, and costs money.

I grow parsnips, warning they grow to over 3 foot upto 5 foot if left to go to seed and cast shadow
But are hardy so do not need prime space
But I adore parsnips, boiled then roasted not over cooked until too tough to chew cook same as roast carrots
But in a stew sublime if you have not tried
Potato onion carrot parsnip and lamb stew plus herbs salt and pepper, and optional garlic
Any Irish stew has extra flavour when you add parsnips
If trying first time half or quarter parsnip to carrot I go one for one but agree most of the time parsnip costs more than carrot
I adore cold roast parsnips, not over cooked but soft and squidgy with a hint of crispness, cook in beef tallow for good flavour

If nervous, take a small pan peel and slice into coins, boil for 30 mins so soft then fry with butter, then you’ll know if you like them buy one loose and test taste, my husband resisted for years and now adores them, don’t try and stiff him with carrots and a few parsnips lol
