Waiting on the city water dept to show up.

Our water comes from the river systems, and it definitely smells “fishy” right now. So no cooking, ice, drinking etc. We need the water towers to get caught up.

Unfortunately, the water around the break is running clear now. That means the big mature trees it’s near are probably well washed underground. Not sure what to do to stabilize the trees so we don’t lose them in the next storm.
Who ever is doing the repair they have to call 811 underground to mark the utilities. They have two hours to get them marked for an emergency. once that is done they can dig to fix the repair.

Welp, howdy there internet peeps with H2O

It's Troy with Dihydrogen Monoxide again.

Seems that the unionized water department employees earned their pay yesterday fixing four of the five water main breaks. And per their contract, they don't work on Sundays.

That means the supervisors pick up the slack.

Most of the guys out here today hadn't lifted a shovel, turned a wrench, or driven a large truck other than to qualify for their license renewals in the last 10 years.

The 50 year old water main (WILLIE, buried 48 inches or deeper here) had cracked nicely, right where the hole is. It took longer to find the main shut off for the neighborhood. Everyone thinks our utilities come in from the 2 lane road to the north of us. Road name is the same as the neighborhood name.

But they're wrong. Both Power and Water come in from the south, off of Jefferson Ave, a major 4-lane artery through the city.

So our guys will be making notes on the blue prints and the troubleshooting notebook.
Wow, a water main break should be fixed at anytime and you don't shut it off completely, all the soil containments can go into the pipe. I wouldn't be using that water for awhile.

Good evening gang.

Not so good news on the co-workers hubby. Pneumonia has set in. Not what we wanted to hear on top of all the other injuries. Needless to say, we're saddened but hopeful they caught it early.

NASCAR race was fairly exciting, road courses usually are. Nothing got done on the layout today, I've been busy culling the stock, locos, buildings, books all in preparation for a local train show in November. Gonna dump a bit of my modern stuff, as the main theme of the layout will be late steam and early diesels.

Off to see the sandman, 05:30 comes quick enough.

#1 overall pick this year for the NFL. Seems cocky enough to pull off his boastings
His first game was not that great. They won, but no thanks to him. The opposing QB played circles around him. His first game he was 14 for 29 and 93 yards. Week 2 (today) the Bears lost. He was 23 for 37 and 174 yards, no touchdowns, 2 interceptions, and a 51.0 passer rating. He's going to have to step up his game to meet the boasting. The Bears also have to step up and give him protection, but his overthrowing open receivers, not seeing the sack coming, etc is on him.

Good morning! It's 61° in Tipton.

Yep... the wholly Moley guy was out by 6pm the night of the break. He was marking the lines. The next day when the non-union stupidvisors show up to the do the repair, they had to kill power to two of our 30 buildings because they were digging close to buried power lines.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those who believe Terry isn't a Nigerian scammer impersonating him.

It's Troy again.

Sciatica update:
1. the NP at Ortho strongly suspects disk issues, not piriformis. that radically changed my stretching routine.
2. NO YOGA - too many of the simple poses stress the spine/disks in the wrong direction.
3. Traction: I've got a teeter table on order, but am doing traction by hanging my waist off a sturdy table to stretch the spine open and relieve pressure on the compromised disks
4. Combined with McKenzie press ups (belt line stays on the floor, press the shoulders up), the sciatica is starting to move back up my leg (that's good).
5. but, my foot is still floppy and tingly. That's not good.
6. Nerve flossing. Sounds wierd but it helps. I do a set of 10 each hour, along with the traction.
7. I can tolerate short times sitting. My goal is to use the recliner each evening. But I still have to use the "standing desk" made with gallon paint cans and a spare board, to get to that stage.
8. PT this week. See the doc in early Oct
9. Still in grumpy wizard phase

Good morning everyone!

Another decent Northern Illinois day today. High is supposed to hit 85 degrees with abundant sunshine. There is a 2% chance of rail. 2%, how do they figure that. Must be to cover themselves if by chance it does rain.

By yesterday late afternoon the mouth was feeling much better. No pain this morning and the gum swelling has gone down by quite a bit. So I don't believe a call to the dentist is going to be necessary.

Not sure what I will accomplish today. Most everything chore wise was done over the weekend.

Have a great day all!

Morning all,

A bit over a week of no NSAID's and I'm feeling it. Whomever said acetaminophen is a worthy drug should stuff it. One more week remaining.

66° going for 88° later.

Troy: Hope the correct stretches get you feeling better soon.

Karl: Best wishes for co-workers husband.

Good Morning All. Clear and 68°. Looks like pleasant weather for the next 10 days, highs in the mid to upper 90's and lows in the upper-60's to low-70's. Except for tomorrow when the high is just supposed to be 89°. At least that's what the weather guessers are posting right now. Up until today, they were also predicting rain next Sunday, but that has disappeared also.

Yesterday was a "light labor" day. Just household chores and I did another cart load of brush instead of wielding the chainsaw. Pool maintenance took about 20 minutes, plus another 40 minutes adding water. I just put in about half of what I intended as I need to keep it minimal before closing. The water temperature rises to 84° in the afternoon from a start of 81° at sunrise, so it is comfortable most of the day.

Today I really should get back to the chainsaw. I can see definite progress even if no one else can. Unless they look at the firewood stacks. I have no known indoor tasks right now and my wife doesn't realize it yet.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I reviewed and repaired a handful of figures that I am about to paint. These are some of the poorly made Chinese figures that I received as a Christmas gift from my granddaughter; which is why I don't toss them.

Their quality leaves a little to be desired. There's voids to fill with putty, and mold knockouts that have to be shaved or filed, as well as the usual flash. I also have to trim off the sprue attachment point from most heads

They're all knock-offs of better quality Preiser figures.
I do like to add a lot of figures to my scenes. While I prefer "action" scenes, there is a need for plenty of static figures as well. There's already over 1200 on the layout, most of which are hand-painted by me. I keep a handful at the workbench to work on whenever I need to get off my feet while doing scenery or other tasks.

Todd - Art can be many things to many different people. To me it can be a well done scene on a model railroad layout. Or it can be a great meal carefully prepared and presented, although that work of art is just temporary. I'm sure that you have a niche in there somewhere.
Mike - Good luck with the tooth. I might still go to the dentist even if the pain and swelling go down; there may be an underlying issue that could turn into something more serious.
Patrick - How about a picture of the balky turnout. Maybe we could spot something. I have found that even one small piece of misplaced ballast can cause issues.
Acetaminophen can be effective if one isn't taking 10-12 tablets a day. Not that you are, I don't know. It loses it's effectiveness when overused. A tolerance will build up with long-term usage.
Tom - Around here, the power company never calls the water company until they hit a line! A few years ago, the fiber-optic contractor was tunneling along my property and one of them asked me if I knew where the water main was? I pointed to where I thought it was and immediately went inside and called the water company. Took them less than 10 minutes to come out and mark it. I think that their guy was close by to begin with as their HQ is about 12 miles away.
Sherrel - Happy Birthday. Hope that you get this message.

The late BB King would have been 99 today. Sadly he passed 9 years ago. Today is also Mexican Independence Day, Cinco de Mayo is not their independence day.

Everyone have a marvelous Monday.

Kind of lonely with my wife not being here anymore, I stopped in to see my old girl friend from 1972 while on my Myrtle Beach trip. She only lives 20 miles from where we were playing golf. If I move there, I'll see more of her. I'm still up on the air about selling. It's going have to be next year if I sell. Here's a photo of her with her sister. She's in the blue top.

Which is why I try to reduce my intake from time to time, otherwise, they don't work as well. I'm not supposed to take Naproxen ,(Advil), any longer. Pain fluctuates, but the exercises I learned in PT do help the situation.
