Gas in Wisconsin. There is a law about the minimum markup, 9.1% for gasoline that curtails price wars here. It was passed during the oil embargo back when Nixon was the chief idiot.

No loss leaders here for gas but strangely it is allowed for other goods and services. As hard as the Wisconsin Legislature has tried over the years they can’t seem to get enough votes to overturn the law. When I was a road warrior in North Central Wisconsin my territory was north of Highway 10 to Lake Superior. I rarely saw even a $.02 difference in gas pricing in the State. Getting into the UP, anything went but usually higher!

Good morning gang!

64° and sunny, looking for a high later of 83°. Wonderful weather, and I'm stuck pulling another Saturday shift. 🙁 Oh well, at least I'm out in 6 hours. Then the lawn to contend with. I'm planning on being on my butt and in my recliner tomorrow. I need it!

My co-workers husband is still at the Trauma center. After several operations they have determined that he will never walk again. They are going to make some modifications to the house so that he can go in and out (its a split level). Also as a truck driver and a volunteer fireman those days are over. We've all banded behind out co worker telling her not to worry about coming back, focus on her husband. The next few weeks will tell the tale of recovery and adjustment. In the mean time between her husbands friends working on the house, support from the dealership, and the VFD, everyone is pulling together to support them.

New general manager for the store just walked in with 2 huge boxes of donuts!

Back when I was dumb I had a 67 Carmo with a new in the create 302 with two 4 barrel carbs and then later a 396 72 chevy Chevell. Very poor gas mileage on both cars. What a waste of money. I stayed dump for about 10 years then bought a 4-cylinder ford.

When I was dumb, I had a Olds Hurst 442 with a 455n. I switched to a 6 cyl and then a 4 cyl Chevette. it was more fun being dumb!

I was in a similar situation. Transitioned a 289 2 barrel 3 speed 65 Mustang coupe into a hot rod
which passed everything except a gas station. Wasn't keen on racing but really enjoyed going
through the gears. Yeah, spent a lot of money on it and really liked working on the car, especially
the drive train; not so much body work but did that to save cost. Got over the motorhead bug and
don't regret doing it. Met a lot of nice folks throughout the process.

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 71°, back to normal weather for a while. Highs in the mid to upper 90's for at least a week. Pool water is back to the normally pleasant 82°, and I'm hoping it stays that way for a while. We are usually able to use the pool until the last week of September, sometimes later into October, but with the shortening days, the sun's ability to heat the water declines. The lower angle in the sky doesn't help either. I almost shut it down after Labor Day this year when the water temperature dropped to 76°, glad that I didn't.

I do believe that our hummingbird population has begun their winter migration. I've only seen one at the feeders since Monday. Yes fall is approaching, as I saw two more snakes heading out to the area of the now derelict barn.

Kept busy yesterday, did a load of laundry, cut firewood, added a layer of kitchen waste/grass clippings/leaves to the compost pile, and raked up leaves from the fallen trees. I did not buy the bagger attachment for the new mower last year, as it costs $1400. It's more like a vacuum and it has a separate motor instead of being force-fed like the old one. More of the same today except the laundry.

Nothing new to report from out in the train shed yesterday. I spent too much time in the pool since it was 94° outside.

Terry - I encountered that kiosk in the lobby at a lab that my cardiologist sent me to. I have since specifically requested that they send me to a nearby place that still has humans. My PCP has a person in his office.
Ken - Easy and fortunate fix to the septic issue.
Patrick -
I got a text that my pain-pal account paid for a new Apple laptop. Too bad I don't have an account.
I get those texts often and I also have no Paypal account. And I also get notifications that my grocery pick up is ready at Walmart and a few other things. It's because the previous person with my cell number has not bothered to update many vendors. I don't think that they even realize that they aren't getting notifications, and I don't know their number to inform them.
Tom O - There's a mark-up law in Texas as well, so many times it's the difference in what the wholesaler charges the vendor that makes a difference. What one place paid a week ago might be 15¢/gallon higher than the place in town.

Everyone have a wonderful Saturday.

Karl, when I was injured it was also a motorcycle accident from an unaware motorist running me down from behind.
My wife got the call from the police telling her, and she should probably not dawdle getting to the hospital because they weren't sure I was going to make it.
By the time she got there, and the had a chance to look at me, they decided I'd probably live, but I'd never walk again.
After a transfer to another hospital, and lots of treatment and surgeries, they decided I might walk, but it was too soon to tell.
After more time, they decided I would probably be able to walk short distances with assistance, but I'd be essentially disabled for life.
After even more time, and more procedures and treatment, they decided I'd probably be able to walk with a cane.
After yet more time, the doctor gave me an exam, and asked if I felt I could walk. I stood up, walked from one wall of his office to the other, pivoted, and walked back.
I've since gone back to work full time, walk, jog, and ride a bicycle, climb ladders, and do almost anything a "normal" person could do.

Obviously, everybody is different, but after multiple broken bones, and brain and spine/nerve injury, I decided I wasn't going to spen d the rest of my life in a damned wheelchair. Tell her not to give up, and not to let him give up.

Good morning all!

Weekend is finally upon us! A late check in for me.

Going to be a mostly cloudy day today with the temps going up into the upper 80s. looks like that's going to be the trend through next week.

Yesterdays dental appointment went off without a hitch, so its always good to get that done and don't have to go back till March now.

Other than that nothing earth shattering in my world.

Have a safe day everyone!

Good morning, all! Well, it maybe September, but it still feels like August. Currently, 85 with a feels like of 97 and it's only 10:45 AM. I've been trying to paint the new shed, but I can only work for about 2 hours in this heat. Even the paint is skimming over in the can.
I almost embarrassed to tell you gas prices here. $2.51 at the grocery store and $2.46 at Buc-ee's which is a mile from the house.

Swal - Condolences for your loss.
Karl - It's great that your co-worker has such a great support network.

I did run some trains yesterday, the first time in about 2 weeks. Started an operating session, bringing empties to the outbound yard. However, a forgotten turnout was not switch back by the switcher crew and a major derailment occurred when a freight it the turnout.

Oh, nobody's given up, there is still hope. It's odd, he can feel his legs, just can't move them. He probably will be sent to Kernan Hospital after the trauma canter. This is the same place I went to after my stroke. When I got there my entire right side was immobile, face, hand and leg. They would get me out of bed and work with me for the next 4 hours, then lunch and 4 more hours, then rest. 89 days after the stroke I walked back into work and resumed my life. They do amazing things there. I'm sure with time and effort, he will improve. How much is unknown but we all pray for the best!
Willpower is very potent, and I'm sure he has plenty of it!
