Afternoon All,

Today we continued putting together the sewing room then went to Dad's and brought back his TV, TV stand, Night stand, and power recliner. Tomorrow after my VA appointment son and I will bring his dresser and computer desk. That will be all his furniture. Still will have the ancient computer tower and house sized monitor and clothes. We also put down the down payment with the shower contractor.

Troy- That's about 1.5-2 hours from me.

Chad- Very nice modeling.

Joe- Beautiful Pennsy photos. Wait...You're actually planning your layout? :D LOL.

Willie- Nice scenes.

Dakota- Nice wheel chocks

I hope everyone has a good night.

Honestly I'm quite amazed how much time I can spend researching just how stuff is tied to a flat car.
LOVE39 - Here is some more for you! These are quite old methods.

Thanks. Can one grind/file down too far? Do I needs worry about the channel for the flange getting too shallow?

I am on WS foam roadbed over foam subroad. Not sure tracknails will help. I have thought about hitting the frog area with a shot of adhesive and pinning/weighting down the frog area.
Yeah, for sure, you can over grind...but a careful gentle grind will make for a smoother ride. Also make sure that the guard rails at the frogs are capable of guiding flanges (real purpose), otherwise the wheel running over the frog will tend to deviate from its intended path. Problem with highly detailed code 70 is that ham handed people like myself tend to accidentally break things, then have to fix my errors. I had a frog which has been in place since 2016, suddenly lift up due to heat expansion, and cause a royal PIA short, that did not trip any of my circuit protection, but did kill power on a stretch of track. I fixed it by nailing two track nails one on either side of the switch. The cork road bed held the nails, even though the roadbed is glued to a 2" thick section of foam. By restoring the frog to normal position, the rails broke contact with the frog, and the short cleared.
Adhesive and weighing in your situation will also work,
My tracklaying philosophy and method comes from observing my friends from the MW do their thing. I try the same technique on the model railroad and in some cases, it works.
A lesson learned, must have gaps in the track, no matter what others may say.

I used a scale 6" pole that just seems to overwhelm the house itself. I used that size because that's what I have seen done in the real world.
Willie- I found two birdhouses with poles made from pins. you can see the poles painted and unpainted.
I tried to press fit a piece of pin as a perch, but wound up gluing it in place.
I also put a glob of glue on the end of the pole to keep from stabbing myself, again.

Morning all,

47° chilly degrees this morning in my part of Doo-Dah. Supposed to be 75° and sunny today for the first day of Autumn in the Northern hemisphere.

Lost out on both the Mega Millions lottery and another train auction yesterday. The trains went for 20% above what I thought the should and I even tossed 10% above that at them. Somebody with more money and wants than me I guess. Mega Millions always seems to go to the east coast somewhere and in this case NYC.

Oh well, not much yet this morning, so a large cup of coffee and a double order of corned beef hash this morning, eggs over hard. Thanks Francine. Funny I can swallow a raw egg, but when they're cooked, I can't stand a runny yolk.

Good Morning All. Mostly clear and 55°here. It was warmer yesterday than predicted, and it's supposed to gradually warm up to the lower 90's by Saturday. Maybe rain late next week.
Doctor visit with the revision specialist went OK yesterday, however he's putting the actual surgery off by a week in order to do further testing to see if they can identify the cause/type of the infection. So we'll do that this Friday and do the knee replacement next Friday. Since this is a new doctor to us, I had to scope out the office and the staff. First medical facility that I can remember that actually has a clock in the waiting room! Unusual to say the least, for me anyway. Today is wife's one week check-up for the cataract removal which we expect to be positive. She looks different without her glasses, kinda like a new partner!

Thanks as always for the likes and comments regarding my layout progress: Tom O, Patrick, Garry, Christian, Hughie, Mikey, Steve, Rick, Karl, Sherrel, Curt, Tom, Joe, James, Chad.

No raw eggs here Francine, but I'll take a pair of sunny-side-up with a pile of sausage patties today. OJ and cinnamon toast on the side.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I sorta finished the McCormac's Dry Goods project. I first added a scene inside the window.

Then I added a housewife and her son along with a vehicle out front.
IMG_7775.JPG

Then I added coarse foam on top of the ground cover that I placed on Monday between the road and railroad ballast.
IMG_7780.JPG

The scene is essentially complete now. One day when I get the weathering powders out again, I may add some light weathering to the porch and around the door...if I remember!
Next, over on the workbench, I renewed work on figures. I had 26 already painted and waiting for a shot of dull coat. Here they are spread out in the paint booth.
IMG_7776.JPG

Some of these are from pre-painted sets while most were painted by me. Some are Preiser and others are Chinese figures either unpainted or repainted. I'll be doing some more in the next few days as my figure "bench", a piece of 8 1/2" x 11" cardboard, seems to be over-populated right now.

I have lined out boxes for specific colors or jobs so I don't lose track when I take it off the workbench for other projects.

This will suffice to keep me busy as I look at things on the layout and determine what is next. There are 192 things on the "to do" list and that doesn't count the undeveloped area with just mains running through. I hope to just go through the list and knock about a dozen or two items off it. Many just require 15 minutes or less

Mikey - I just don't like the look of the birdhouse on that pole. I have plenty of alternatives; I like the idea of using a straight pin, probably more rigid than using styrene rod that I thought about using. I just made the perch with a short piece of styrene rod.
Terry - Continued prayers and condolences for your and your DIL's family. One thing that I have hated all of my life is going to funerals of folks younger than me.

A couple of commemorative days today, possibly tied to one another. It is National Centenarian’s Day to honor those who might have reached that ripe age, but it is also World Narcolepsy Day. Take an unexpected nap today and commemorate both at once.
Everybody have a great day. Stay safe.

Goodness ME! It is 66F/18.8C starting this morning -- another HOT one coming today of 101F/38.3C with clear and sunny skies! Just for fun - the record high for this date was 103F in 2003.

Nice photos this morning, CHRISTIAN -- I need to see some of that weather and breathe the crisp air. 7,5 miles walk ... I couldn't do it! My hip would just not cooperate; I start having pain after a half mile and much over that leaves me on the ground. I bet that your pups really enjoy it! Are they on, or off leash?

Hope all of you are doing as best you can this morning. I really don't have anything new to report. The Spousal Unit has left me again to go with her Sister somewhere in Northern CA to a HS friends 50th Wedding Anniversary. She will be, hopefully, return come next Tuesday. I have several "home projects" that I will try and accomplish while I have the run of the house.
I get to leave the tools all over the place! YAY!

An invigorating 43F this morning!

VFW meeting last night which went well. I mentioned to the 'powers that be' regarding the manager who works for my wife. Her husband is the one who committed suicide, leaving her and two boys still in high school. Well, sure enough, his insurance had a suicide clause, so she gets nothing. She must sell her home as his was the primary income. So the 'powers that be' are willing to help cover two months of mortgage for her. So I will meet her this afternoon to give her this news and offer other support. It is nice that our VFW has the funds available to help others in need.

So no train work yesterday. And probably none today. Evening meetings start at 1800.

On another front - - - - we will be fostering a greyhound!! We have one of our own, but this will be our first foster. SHould be fun here with two greyhounds, a terrier mix and two cats.

Off to work - - - - - Steve J
