Morning all,

58° and clear this morning going for a windy 93°. We'll be above average in the low to mid 80's.

Still picking tomatoes and peppers, and first frost is usually around the middle of the month, but long range forecasts have us above normal until the end of the month. Can't wait to see what the parsnips may have done. I see huge growth in the tops, but suspect there may not be much root as I don't see any root shoulder.

Oh good A decent coffee for a change. And Bill is paying.

Thanks Bill.

Expensive, and I know I shouldn't BUT!

Good morning modelers. It’s an ok looking morning as the sky is filled with wispy clouds with some blue showing. 56f degrees now and 84 later. I’ve been up since 4:45 but just looking in now.

The granddaughter just got here as mom and friends are heading to campus for a football game. Dad and brother are heading to soccer west of Milwaukee. I’ll be heading to the bench. Terry and the granddaughter will be making cookies and a gluten free carrot cake this morning. Later tonight Terry and I will be seeing a dance troupe downtown at the Overture Center

I felt pretty good yesterday and probably the best in the last 2 months. I didn’t really crash until about 4:30pm and only napped 15 minutes. Maybe the medicine changes are working. The 6th time maybe the charm!

Enjoy the day

653USD so yep it’s not a cheap one. But you only live once and if you love it, just do it!

Good Morning All. Clear and 60° out there this morning. Forecast is still the same; low-60's at night and low-90's in the afternoon. No rain or wind in the 10 day forecast until maybe the 14th. The no wind is a little unusual for us and is causing air quality alerts due to the Ozone coming out of the Dallas/Ft Worth area south of here.

Normal day on tap today, after the refrigerator adventure yesterday. Everything worked out fine and we started hearing the icemaker chunking ice about 5 hours after the water and power were hooked up. I think that the delay in the ice was from the air in the water line that had to be expelled. Threw out the first two batches as recommended, as well as flushing out about 2 gallons of water through the water dispenser. The delivery itself was a little unusual to me as I expected them to use a 2-wheel dolly to bring it in from the truck. No! They each strapped on a harness and ran a wide belt underneath it and used manpower from the truck, up the steps and into the house. The fridge itself weighs 264#, so I was impressed at their teamwork in doing it.

No time out in the train shed yesterday, as I went straight into the pool after the refrigerator guys left. It was/is likely the last day of use unless I can get in today. I will have to cover it Monday or Tuesday since we're going for a week-long vacation starting next weekend. UP's Big Boy will be in the area from Thursday through Saturday and I'm trying to find a window of time for that event on Thursday as well, prior to us leaving town on Friday.
So while on the subject of the Big Boy, here are a couple of pictures that I took the last time it was nearby.

Troy - I'm not real sure what happened to Jaz. As David posted, she hasn't been on her UK forums either, so I don't believe that she simply lost her password again. I miss her and her "run-on" sentences. Always a challenge to read. I hope that she is just taking a break from social media. I also miss her depictions of British life on her layout.
Swal - I miss owning dogs and cats. We always had both here. However my wife and I made a decision about 3 or 4 years ago to be dependent-free. It was mainly because we didn't want to burden anyone in case of a tragedy or health issue. I was always more of a cat person while my wife was more of a dog person. So we make do now by dog-sitting our granddogs.
Tom -
I was thinking why are you up so early.
It's a holdover from 43 years of getting up at 4:00 am every morning for work, since 1972! Even after 9 years of retirement, I still get up around that time, no matter how hard I try to sleep later! My alarm all those years was set for 4:15, but I rarely heard it, always waking up and turning it off beforehand so it wouldn't disturb my wife.

Musician Steve Miller is 81 today. His family moved to Dallas where he went to high school in the early 60's and he and the band played a lot of local gigs there. I saw him (when Boz Scaggs was in the band), play for free a couple of times at anti-war concerts at Lee Park in Dallas, along with ZZ Top in the late 60's. Saw him a few more times when I could still hear up into the 90's. He just finished a tour co-headlining with Journey in August.

Everyone have a great Saturday.

Good Morning All!
43F @ 78% partly and should get to 60F bout 1700

Got the Cat III vent pipe situated to where it should go. Hammering that hole worried me as if you remember, those blocks were not mortared. Shoot, sliced right through both sides with no issue. The pipe is virtually impossible to slide together as there is a neoprene gasket in them. Was gonna go to ACE for some high temp silicon grease to ease the slide part, but ran out of time as I needed to take Maria to her Birthday dinner. Will get some today. Then I can bury it and start on the gray water drain/septic/drain field construction. Holes/trenches are already dug. Oh, we both had 16oz Prime very rare which was wonderful at the 'River Bend' restaurant/saloon, about 15 miles up Montana 37. She made 69 on the 2nd.

Cats: We have unique ones ( guess that every cat is unique ) and all of them will come and find us to bi tch meow if they can see even a part of the bottom of either of their dishes. Heck one can be completely full, but doesn't matter. Fill'm up, and everything get quiet again. As a side note, one of the Dogs will bring the food dish to us if it is empty. No clue as to how she gets it out of the 'holder' without spilling the water sitting beside it. SS dish so it has to be fun on her teeth.

[Edit] I forgot, we do not have issues taking off for a day or two with our animals. Have a doggie door and good sized water/food dishes just for that case. We do sometimes find something chewed up when we get home - somebody will sometimes act-out!

I think that I am almost done with the 'get ready for winter stuff'. Besides the above, still need to stack some wood for the cook stove, and get all the batteries out of the lawn tools after parking them under the lean-to. While at ACE will get some high temp silicon sealer as the train cave pellet stove has an 'air leak' probably between the exhaust blower and the stove. Had to replace that last year and found that the factory just put in the blower without a gasket with some insulation under part of the flange. No clue why it worked for a couple of years first.

This is a little old, but somebody had questions: Any venison ( Deer, Elk, Antelope, Moose ) is great. Each taste slightly different with Antelope being the sweetest and Moose being the best when it comes to steaks or roasts, although Elk is a close 2nd. Just remember to harvest them when the are NOT running, sleeping is best, but just grazing works!

Later

Good morning gang!

The yellow thing in the sky this morning 66° heading to 74°. This morning to get a haircut and then when I return home, I have to take out the yard rake and pick up the tons of clippings left over from cutting the lawn last night Over a weeks worth of rain made the yard go crazy.

Later gators!

Good morning all!

Happy Saturday!

Off to the second day of our basketball tournament. Last nights game was really good. The first half they were sloppy and ball handling were a real issue. They were down 17 points at the half. They went in the locker room at half and I believe by the look on their faces that the coach really gave it too them! They came out in the second and played a much improved game and ended up roaring back and winning it. The team and parents then went to Culvers for concrete mixers.

Have a safe day everyone!

On the last move the movers all used those straps, no Dollie’s even on the truck. It was really neat watching mattresses getting moved that way.

4014, have fun seeing it again. I saw it come through Wisconsin in 2019 and did feel the need to see it again

Alarms. Same set my alarm for 4:15am and rarely over the last 21 years working did I need it. I made a determined effort after I retired to sleep to 6am, not quite consistent though. I at least in year 10 of retirement are able to sleep midnight to usually 6am. Sometimes later but mostly in the 5:30 to 6 range.

Expensive, and I know I shouldn't BUT!

You could consider it an act of charity. Every purchase supports the National Railway Museum.

that causes me to wonder about all that health stuff.
While my daughter served in the Army at a medical facility in Vilseck, Germany, she expressed concern about my consumption of cured meats. She consulted with the Colonel she worked under, who humorously remarked that although it likely wouldn't cause issues, it might preserve my body longer posthumously.

Good evening all. A glass of Singleton Scotch please, Flo.

Jaz The time before when she went AWOL she was busy with work around her house. Being on Forums (in the U.S. and U.K.) was the last thing on her mind. I believe then that she 'lost' her login information.
Has she done the same this time?

Cats We had many who came to us as abandoned or cruelty cases. (We had nothing to do with court cases and the like.) We found them loving home One or three did not want to leave; kicking up such a fuss nobody wanted them.

One we called 'Bigson' was an alleycat with a temperament to match. Frightened of nothing. Take on all comers in a scrap and win handsomely. Yet in the house he was as cute as could be.

When 'Baby Sylvester' arrived he was going nowhere. He was to be mine. A ball of long hair siting on my hand. He grew and grew and grew. He loved to be held like a baby; a big baby at that. Long, gorgeous black fur and baby blue eyes.

'Cherub' was another going nowhere. As the abandoned and cruelty case cats arrived she took to 'mother' them and look after them. How could we let her go?

'Cranberry' arrived one Christmas Eve morning. We called her Cranberry because of her Cranberry coloured markings. She was really bad 'cruelty case'. When the time came to find her a new home, she had; here.

All reached the age between 17 or 18 years of age before crossing Rainbow Bridge.

Time to make dinner. Homemade cheesy burger, potato wedges and salad.

Pets...
After an initial abortive attempt at adopting a small dog, I've decided to wait until I retire and have more time at home before adopting another one. I think it wouldn't be fair to an animal to leave them cooped up 6 days a week alone all day, then have me come home, walk and feed them, then we go to bed. Rinse and repeat.

I could not agree more! I'm proud of you, once again you have given me good reason to be.

We feel the same. Since we lost our Beagles, I have wanted to get another dog, preferably two. But we have been busy, and it takes round the clock attention for days to get dogs comfortable in their new home.
