I never got to work on the E44's, but I seem to have read that they had "dual controls" (two control stands in the cab).
E44s were dual control stand motors. The only single direction motors on PRR/PC/CR were the ex VGN, ex N&W, ex NH E33s which had a single control stand and a 24rL Brake stand. Normally they were paired, but on occasion they were operated as a single, in which case they would have to be turned at the end point, either on a wye or a turntable, mostly utilizing a yard engine.
One of the great advantages of electric power was that they generally didn't need to be turned, and they didn't have to be fueled.
I just looked at the charts, and the last precipitation here was 0.13" of rain on 09/29/2024. That's 30consecutive days without rain, the longest dry spell in recent memory. Especially considering it seems like it's always raining here. I believe that in itself is a new record, although, the weather station was activated on 01/21/2008. So the record goes back to 2008.
Currently 55° , off a high of 69°. Predicted low 47° and a high of 75°. Looks like we are having our second round of Indian Summer.
It was suggested that I add some 50 Ton B&O Hoppers to the train so it would resemble the Sand trains than tan on the Southern Division between the Sand Mines in Ocean County and Jersey City, for trans loading to barges for NYC High Rise construction.

picture of today (upcoming weekend we will have the last tournament of the season. Doubles Swiss Championships. I will play with my girlfriend in the mixed category!) the location is Engelberg, Switzerland:
Good morning gang!
47° under clear skies this morning, but a high expected of 77°. No precipitation in the last 24 hours and the little weather app says none is expected for the next 10 days. I know how to make it rain. All I have to do is wash all three of the cars.
Heading out after work today to visit the great Howard Zane. As part of the Wednesday night gang that helped him with the construction of the layout it’s fun to go back and see what little tweaks he’s done since my last visit. Yes he’s getting up there in years and it’s harder for him to walk down the basement steps, but he still gets down there. He’s also still cranking out Scratch built, structure models. It’s always fun to see what’s on the workbench.

Partly cloudy has turned into light rain.
Good morning all. I am back home. Told to 'take it easy' for 24 hours'.
Flo. A pot of tea and three slices of toast. Thick sliced. None of that wafer thin stuff.
Thanks for the well wishes etc. gentlemen. Much appreciated.
John from Indiana. My thoughts and prayers to you and your wife.
Now to catch up on things going on here.
Train arriving at Corrour Station
Back later
Good morning all. I am back home. Told to 'take it easy' for 24 hours'.
Glad to see you are back with us so soon!
Good morning all!
Another unusually warm Northern Illinois day today. Yesterday we hit 81 degrees with very windy conditions. Shorts and a t-shirt came back out of the drawer. Today is not going to be quite as warm., but still with a unseasonably high temp of 76 digress and the winds are supposed to continue.
Big changes starting tomorrow with some wet weather and much cooler temps.
Mot much going on today, so we shall see.
Be safe everyone!
Morning all,
71° and cloudy. Still windy although 35mph gusts feel like a breeze compared to 56mph ones yesterday. We're expecting a high 78° before the front comes through. We are expecting severe weather this afternoon, although rain amounts of less than an inch expected.
David: Glad you're back. Hopefully it went well.
ugh!!!!! buuuuurrrrrrppp!!!
Mornin all.
Scratch, scratch, scratch.
gonna be warm here today. Think I'll take the Goldwing out for a couple hundred miles this afternoon.
Those snowcapped mountains look cold. A neighbor down the street has one of those Frisbee golf chain things in his front yard. He has a dog too that chases down the Frisbees that miss the chain thing. Interesting to watch for a few minutes.
Good morning from So. Central Wisconsin where on 10/30/2024 it is 67f degrees at 6:30am. Mother Nature is so confused by her own weather patterns that I think she’s giving up. About a hundred miles north of Mike down in Northern Illinois our weather has been similar. Only 76 today down from a strange feeling 81 degrees yesterday. The expected rain on Thursday is definitely welcome. Much better than October storms being WHITE.
While the snow blower has been prepped and is in its Winter spot the grass needs to be cut again and the leaves blown off. I can’t cut yet per Doctor’s orders and the SIL is out of town. I’m not sure it’s worth the effort to blow the leaves if the grass hasn’t been cut. I’ll text the neighbor in an hour if her 12 year old needs some spending money…
Had dinner with the grandson last night along with his mom and sister. His 2 hockey games on Sunday went very well but he claims it was a tough adjustment! He said he knows most of his teammates but he’s learning the coaches’ system. He said he’s ok not being on the first line as he hasn’t earned it, and then he said, yet. He is the second line left wing but prefers to play right wing and said he will get the coaches eventually to see he plays better on the right side. He is the youngest player on this team and he says 3rd fastest skater. I kept looking at him thinking he’s 10 going on 20 with his thought processes. He says he hit 2 crossbars and 1 pipe in the 1st game but he scored the winning goal in a 3-1 game. The second game he said his 1st shot went in but he got all 6 of his assists in a blowout 9-0. His tough weekend in the 2 games they won was 2 goals and 6 assists. His coach told his mom they didn’t expect that much from him or his line and are pleasantly surprised. I think the coach maybe surprised all season, the kid is a gamer! The daughter informed us the his 2 line mates are girls! They are the best and fastest skaters on the team. This will be fun to watch. He has 4 games at home this weekend including 2 from the hockey association I was president of for 6 years and where 2 of his mom’s old teammates also have kids playing against him.
Today is diesel prep day. I need to start masking off 5 of the 10 diesels I have to weather! Masking 5 is about my daily limit as it’s taxing on my eyes. It takes me 15 to 20 minutes per diesel to mask. I will mask the other 5 on Friday. Then fade the 10 together. In between the masking jobs I will continue on the gondolas and panel line 2 tank cars. I’m just moving along steady and will throw some layout work in there. The fun is back
Enjoy the day
Good Morning All. Cloudy, windy and 72°. Winds are ~20 mph, not as windy as Patrick's area, but windy. NWS is still forecasting rain for us today, then clear until Saturday when they predict at least a week of rain. The closest rain to me right now has moved to south western Kansas and western Oklahoma, moving directly east.
Same old stuff here yesterday, emptied dishwasher, made a major trip to the dumpster and started another stack for firewood. Starting on the third face-cord. Still can't really tell if progress is being made unless you look at the wood stacks. Today will be no different. But that also depends on whether it really rains here.
I only made a brief appearance out in the train shed yesterday, a late lunch followed by a late nap left little time. It was enough time to run some trains and discover that there is a short somewhere. No, it's not in the area that I rewired Monday. I've isolated the block, but didn't have time to examine it any further. It's got to be something simple like a metal object bridging the track.
I'm not in the mood to search the archives this morning, so bear with me. They will return.
Joe - Got you beat on the rainfall, our last was September 23; prior to that was July 9.
Jay - Nice looking Disc-Golf course.
Vocalist Grace Slick from Jefferson Airplane and various offshoots, is 85 today!
Everyone have a good Wednesday.
Got you beat on the rainfall, our last was September 23; prior to that was July 9
Wow! Now they are telling us that we will have measurable rain on November 1. Going through an entire calendar month without rain is our next record, that's never happened here...It will probably rain today or tomorrow and screw up the record.
FWIW, it's supposed to be warm today and warmer tomorrow for the goblins. I hope that I can get a structure painted today while It's still mild enough.
Good Morning All!
40F @ 80% partly with maybe rain later. Should get to almost 50F bout 1600
Only batteries need removed today. I informed Maria that I was not gonna do anything for a day or two and gonna let my mind get back into 'my stuff'. Ya, right. She is glad all the 'get ready' stuff is done. Gray water system for the Kitchen is done and covered as much as I can. I suspect that it will take most of the Winter to fill the tank ( 300+ gallons ). Our dirt is pretty chunky as we grow rocks and we are tired of 'rock picking' so am waiting for Spring to get a couple loads of dirt for filling and leveling. Maria wants grass on all the torn up stuff, and I will give her a flower bed bordered by 6" x 6" pressure treated fir over the so called septic tank so she can not navigate the rider over the top of the thing. Not too worried about the drain field or input to the tank as those are buried about 24" now, further down after the leveling stuff; with absolutely nothing heaver than a riding lawn mower on those. Our 1/4 basement is now warmer as the holes between the bottom log and block foundation are filled. Gravel those in the Spring after everything settles down. You should have seen the kittens when water flows into the tank - pretty interested with heads in the hole. The clean out is 8" diameter and I don't think anybody is gonna jump in, but JIC I put a temporary cover on it. Do you know what an 8" schedule 35 PVC end cap costs? Ya don't want to know.
Went out into the Train Cave yesterday while waiting for the rain to stop to kinda figure out where ima going to start. What a mess. Suspect that the workbench(s) will get cleaned off, new water for the laser cutter along with checking the input air filters as I want to use that for the Helix curve sections. I can not seem to cut a pretty arc in anything with the hand held jig saw no matter how slow/fast I go. I guess that it really does not matter in the grand scheme of things, just OCD on my part. The downstairs pellet stove is still screwed up. Think that I am at fault and didn't get the gasket installed correctly when I replaced the blower motor. Welp, have some high temp silicon gasket material so that should fix. Looking forward to getting started! And yes, there will be pix.
I found out that our Kitchen counter tops were Marble. Geesh, all these years I just took them for granite.

Good afternoon, it’s breezy and 81.
If anyone notices some missing posts, we performed a little political housecleaning. This close to the US elections, we need to remember Bob’s rule about politics.
Good evening all. A double Scotch, Flo please.
Just made a Moroccan style meal. "It was delicious", said Dawn.
Been in the train room this afternoon. Working on the backscene on part of the layout. Not 100% happy, but then I never am. Always can improve things, just keep working at it.
I like to have scenes different to the 'What is readily available'.
Therefore more work still to be done.
Some storms and rain over the lunch hour seems to have killed some of the severe storm buildup. We'll see what happens in a bit.
Not making fun of your issues Troy, but u gotta laugh
