Good morning all! 68 heading up to 82 degrees today with rain expected. I got my short day at work yesterday, so today through Saturday I have to work 8-5:30 and have Sunday off.
The job interview yesterday went ok. I have to wait to hear if I made the cut for the next interview. They told me the next one would be an hour long with the hiring manager. No idea yet if I get to have that one or if I'm out of the running. Time will tell.
Almost no sleep, so I'm barely moving this morning. Gonna be a long day.
Hope you all have a great day!
Ken

I have not done any modeling this week, back to working on the SIL's shed.
I got some help in the afternoon to nail in the tops of the boards to the frame. I have 5 more 1" x 12" boards to cut, paint and install before the metal roofing crew arrives to put a roof on the house and shed.

Gotta go take my brother in to the clinic to remove cataracts from his left eye, and the other eye will be done in two weeks. I will have to find some place with coffee and biscuits while he is in surgery.
Y'all have a great day!

Morning all,

I think my double migraine 6 months back was from my 2nd Moderna shot. I know I had a bad migraine the day after the first. Still Covid is worse...

Currently 51° and dark in my part of Doo-Dah. Supposed to be sunny later and a high of 70°. Supposed to get to about 40° for the low Saturday morning. It was 96° last Saturday for the high. I've got the furnace folks coming next Friday to do its annual heat side tune up. Furnace is only 7 years old, but still need to keep it in order. I had a whole house filter system put in when we had the system installed and they keep wanting to sell me their filters (I use a 25"X20"X5") which I can get cheaper elsewhere. I also have the replacement humidifier pads as well for the same reason. I have yet to turn on the furnace portion as the A/C is still on, but not really running.

BBL...

Good evening.
Yesterday I received the second dose of covid, and I seem to be suffering a pretty bad reaction. I had to come home from work, have fever, chills, muscle pain, joint pain, just about everything except nausea.
I had the same with both pfizer doses. The third one was milder. About 12 hours after it started to kick my butt. I still felt bleh for a day. Woke up fine the following morning.

That's the immune reaction. You're training those B and T cells to remember that spike protein. Whenever they see it in your blood, they'll come out swinging.

On the flip side of boosters, my mother, the liver transplant patient got the moderna shot back in the first wave of old farts getting the jab. She's still waiting on her booster. Moderna is before the FDA this week seeking booster approval, so she's still waiting on hers. I feel guilty now, knowing I got a booster before she did.

But, I'm also heading to Vegas in about 3 weeks for an author conference. I'd hate to be the one to bring the virus back with me.

I've recommended it before: There is a Doc with a YouTube channel ZDoggMD (He's the son of Indian immigrants with an Indian name, so he's Zdogg from when he thought his channel was going to be a fun look at the health industry, for insiders... then the pandemic hit and he had to get all serious with a silly handle.)

He interviews top docs and scientists in the trenches. Including several interviews with Dr. Monica Gandhi, of UCSF Infectious Disease center who wrote one of the earlier studies on the effects of masking in the pandemic. Also interviewed repeatedly is one of the docs on the FDA review board for the vaccines, Dr. Paul Offet.

His insights are very interesting. Dr. Z, the host, is a Science First guy and is digging down through the various studies. If you go back far enough in the vids, you can see his stance on masking shift (thanks to Dr. Gandhi and her little dog Frodo). Good middle of the road NON-political look without the hype and partisan stuff.

The latest one with Dr. Offet, and the one right before with Dr. Marty Makery (sp?) were at odds over boosters and the need for. But both conversations were reasoned, and based on the science available at the time.

Everyone has to make their own decisions. Before they make up their mind, I hope everyone at least looks at the science, and not the voodoo quacks peddling the snake oil.

I'll put the soap box away, and go get another cuppa coffee. ;)

Good Morning All. Foggy and 66° here in North Central Texas. The rain came yesterday and came and came some more. There's 3.2" in the gauge right now, and it has very slowly moved eastward. It also appears to have all soaked in as I saw no real runoff all day.
I'll be off on the weekly grocery/beer trek this morning, so I will miss Staci's visit. Seems that she will actually draw blood twice a week on her visits going forward. Hate to miss her. Meanwhile no change in the patient's condition. I think that Nathan, the occupational therapist will be by this afternoon for his thing. No relief for me from either one!
Regarding Covid vaccines - I got the two Moderna shots in Jan/Feb without any reaction except minor soreness in the shoulder, no greater than the one I get with any other shot. Same for my wife. My next visit with my personal physician is Nov. 2, when we will discuss whether he recommends getting the booster if approved by then. I'll be following his advice even though he tends to be on the vaccine side always.

Thanks for the comments and reactions regarding the chair and progress report yesterday; Tom O, Sherrel, Christian, Patrick, Hughie, Garry, Curt, Rick, Joe.

Scrambled eggs and bacon with OJ and no toast today Flo.

Progress continued out in the train shed yesterday. I got three walls assembled on the Ramone's Salvage structure.

It's on my auxiliary workbench as there isn't enough clear space on the regular bench. Auxiliary bench is a large piece of 3/8" Masonite that bridges the aisle between two layout legs.
I also assembled part of the first fire escape platform.

Windows are next, I decided to leave them in the gray plastic color.

Sherrel -
she winds up sleeping in it more than she does in her own bed, or with me and three pups in the big bedroom
So you're saying that Kate sleeps around?;)
Christian - Thanks for the various pictures, an interesting neighborhood there.
Tom - Arlene and I generally only eat away from home once a week unless traveling. That helps with the carb intake considerably. Regarding the beer, The beer that I drink, Heineken, has just 11g of carbs per bottle, my alternate, Corona, has only 10g. By comparison a single slice of white bread has 15g. My doctor recommends 160g per day max. Earlier this year I abstained from beer for ten weeks and it only made a difference in my glucose levels of 3-4 points a day. For me, weight loss is going to be the greatest factor overall besides diet. My A1C has been in the 5.7-5.8 range for almost two years now. It's a real balancing act and I'll give up other stuff before I totally give up my beer! I still have a weakness for pasta although I have cut it by 40%.
Chairs - My computer desk chair looks like this but it is extremely comfortable. It needs replacing but with all of the Covid restrictions, deep freeze, medical and other stuff going on in the last year and a half, I haven't gotten around to it.

Everybody have a great day. Stay safe.

Good morning modelers of the world. So. Central Wisconsin is cool, wet again and dreary looking.

Christian, again great pictures

Troy, have given me another doctor to read up on Covid, thanks

Hughie and Willie, I will have to dig out the books I have on diabetes care and concerns. The doctor’s name slips me. My wife ordered the book you suggested for me, thanks

John Deere Strike, I feel for the workers on strike. I understand that if the corporate managers are getting millions in bonus payments in a pandemic year why shouldn’t they the worker bee be paid more?

record breaking price increases, food is up, service charges from electricians and plumbers in Wisconsin they say have increased hourly charges by 12% per hour, prices at restaurants supposedly up 5%. That one I will dispute. I’d say from our latest experiences
that it’s more then 10%.

shortages, I know that the shelves in 2 of the 3 stores we buy groceries from have shortages. Last night the daughter said at Costco yesterday she saw a family buy toilet paper, mom, dad, teenage daughter all with separate carts. Costco would not sell more then the maximum to the family, security then police showed up. Said it was very entertaining until folks started clapping for the clerk and the managers who stopped this crazed family. She said the clerk literally broke down crying uncontrollably. Why do people think they don’t have to follow rules?

my weathered gondola, thank you for the ideas, comments and encouragement. I have played with it some more, will show after somemore practice

I borrowed Willie’s cleaning regime yesterday. Took the buildings of the northside of the Papermill off the layout for cleaning. Weathered the concrete and blew off the dust on the buildings.

picture 1 shows the buildings removed, pictures 2&3 show the area emptied, picture 4 shows the 2 coat after concrete weathering
looking forward to finishing off the overall concrete weathering. Maybe 2 more coats of 30% ink 70% H2O. When the buildings are back I will weather the concrete in specific areas with pan pastels

Ballasting repairs hopefully over the weekend

I just caught that I said "Political Look" in the diatribe above.

That should have been NON-political. The host comes across as libertarian (small L for those who understand the difference). He and I do disagree on some of his stances on messaging by the various med groups. He's a purist in the medical sense. I'm a purist in the communication sense. We both have degrees to back our own views up (two in Journalism for me).

But messaging is very much an opinion based soft-science. Your T and B cells don't give a hoot what Doc X, Y or Z said. they just do the job they're trained to do.

IN BBQ news - about to go to Costco and get the wife another bottle of Spiced Rum. That means another Brisket flat for me. Going to try rendering some tallow out of the fat, and mixing that in with the beef when I wrap it.

Also need to get some Lowry's season salt. That appears like it might be a secret ingredient in the rub of some of the great Texas BBQ houses. Planned cook is on Saturday. I'll keep you posted.

But, I'm also heading to Vegas in about 3 weeks for an author conference. I'd hate to be the one to bring the virus back with me.

Be careful there. The vaccine does nothing to stop you from bringing the virus back with you. They've found the viral load the same between those with vaccine and those without. The difference is, at least for a few months, the vaccine may help you bear the virus more easily. So be careful and take all the pre-cautions you would take not being vaccinated, like mask, distance, sanitizer, etc.

Why do people think they don’t have to follow rules?
TomO: Because they think they are special...

Warning: Rant!

I've been keeping quiet about the virus and shots. Not for nothing, ever since we first heard of this disease, we have been fed false and / or misleading information by all sorts of sources. First, the World Health Organization, which told us masking was futile. The CDC, and nouveau celebrity Dr Faucci, who changed his pitch weekly, depeding on what news show he was appearing on. Not to be out done, was our own CDC, and their various contradictory pronouncements. The media, contributed to the confusion, echoing every pronouncement the news show producers felt would cause the most buzz. Self serving Politicians, and Risk managers, So on and so forth, also feed the frenzy.

In what seems like an eternity later, we are still being fed the same BS, and the same embellished rumors, along with the latest pronouncements from which ever foreign country was releasing a study. What's truthful? I don't have a clue...

What matters is how this affects my self and my wife, our adult children, their families and our grand children. Based on the best possible medical advice, from our long time primary care physician, and other specialists we see for our various chronic ailments, we have had two doses of the Moderna Vaccine. (The first one that became available). The only ill effect was that I couldn't lift my left arm for two days after the first injection. When the Moderna Booster is approved and available, we plan on getting it, again, per our doctors advice. We also will get the new flu shot sometime this month. Nothing is perfect. I know of a case, schoolmate's brother, who contracted Polio, some time after getting the Polio vaccine.
I got pneumonia, six months after getting the shot, back in 2018...I was one in the 3% category. S**t happens! You are more likely not to catch Covid if you get the vaccine. if you do get it you are less likely to have a serious case of it. If everyone, got the shot, it wouldn't matter who was contagious... If you don't want to get the shot...wear the mask...PROPERLY...not as a chin diaper... and protect yourself from Covid carriers, flu carriers and typhoid Mary! I wear a mask every time I venture into a public place, just in case. It's not a matter of politics, or freedom or any other lame reasons, it's about protecting yourself.

Rant Over!
