That is interesting, I never heard of either.

We too are Irish Catholics, with 25% German Catholic mixed in on my grandfather's side. My God Mother was a teetotaler. I heard of my Mom taking a drink, but I never saw her with a drink.

The stories of my Irish great aunt's drinking were legends in our family. One story tells of her sitting in her regular seat in the saloon in East Baltimore, off Ann Street. When a car crashed through the wall hitting the table she was sitting at. Her quick reflexes save her whiskey and beer. Unharmed, she kept on drinking.
Louis: Dad was in that group. Bar he was sitting in kitchen caught fire and filled the place with smoke. Everybody else ran out except Dad whom ran behind the bar and started collecting booze bottles. When the FD caught him coming out the door with arms full , they asked him what he was doing. 'Gotta save the booze' was the reply. Needless to say he did not get to keep his loot. Booze finally killed him - not liver, pickled his brain.

Good Morning All. Clear and 42° outside this morning. Warming up a bit for the next 2 days with overnight lows in the upper 50's. Still might hit 80° on Sunday. We might see a freeze on Thanksgiving night, maybe not. While it's not unusual to be this warm this late in the season, we've usually had a frost or two by now. Meanwhile it's still shorts and tee shirt weather outside anytime after 10:00 am.

Nothing unusual to report from here regarding yesterday. Just kept busy with the usual chores and tasks. Today will start with emptying the dishwasher and then who knows what.

Out in the train shed yesterday, all projects were on hold while I did some rewiring at one of the staging yards. It was nothing major, I had accidentally yanked some feeder wires loose last week when retrieving something from underneath the layout. Reconnecting the wires wasn't that big a deal, but clearing stuff out so I could then squeeze under took some time. I also had to set up a temporary light to see what I was doing and then put everything back. Needless to say, the wiring is now all bundled together and fixed in place behind the fascia; like it should have been done initially. Since I have three sets of feeders going to each 19' staging track, I never lost power, but I had to trace 12 wires from 6 tracks and attach them back to the terminal block, in the correct sequence.

While all of this was going on, I did spread out the latest group of figures that I had painted, and shot them all with some dull coat. This not only dulls them down, but keeps the paint colors from fading under the lights.

Louis - Rutabagas and creamed onions have been traditional holiday veggies in our family as long as I can remember. Click for easy recipes.
God Bless you guys for watching kid's movies with the little ones.
I didn't exactly watch, but propped different kids up between me napping on the couch and the couch cushions, so that they could watch the TV. Although they were trapped, they always enjoyed it.
Joe - Yes, to my recollection, Nov 22, 1963 was indeed a Friday.

Everybody have a safe and great Saturday.

Good morning all from a snowy land of the former North British Railway.
A hot chocolate please, Flo. Add some cream as well.

A few household jobs to attend to..
Youngest grandson is visiting and staying overnight.

The old television finally gave in and a new one purchased. One that with a press of a button the Disney Channel comes on. It saves the complicated use of three hand controllers.

I do not know him. I shall see if he is a member of Ocean Liner Society. We have a few member who live in Oz.

'Ocean Liner Row', New York, Queen Elizabeth arriving. Amongst the ships in the picture is SS United States & SS America.

Great picture plus there is an aircraft carrier in there!

Good Morning All!
35F @ 92% and foggy. Skiff of new white. Weather guessers say snow every day of next week. Here we go!

Decided not to go to Orofino to visit friend. Probably a good thing. Went to Kalispell for CostCo, HD and Harbor Freight instead. What a mess. Had something like 2" of slush on US2 which was not a problem for us as we had 4x4 @ 8KLbs. Problem was all the little 4 wheelers going 45Mph in a 70 zone; and there was a line of them. Made for a boring trip which took us an extra hour(ish). Saw more than a few in the ditch which is one of my 'gee' things - how do you go into the ditch on a straight road? I mean you really have to try ... right?

Kalispell was 36F and snowing so the big box stores ( except for CostCo ) were pretty empty. CostCo was not too bad as we got there just after opening. $700 dollars later.. well you get the idea. HD was shelve for the daughter and magnets for me. Maria was isle shopping and found a bag of 500 12" wire ties for $10. Should have got 2 bags! Magnets are for finding buried screws as I need to take off one of the lower wall coverings for a water and power egress in the Train Cave for a chicken house next spring. Want to do that before I clutter it up with that dang railroad stuff. Did not get to HF and I forgot about the 45 degree dura-vent section for the Train Cave pellet stove at HD. Oh, well, ACE here has one - I just wanted to price check.

Trip back was better - stopped at Thompson Lake Lodge and had lunch. Kinda a neat place. We usually eat in Kal, but for some reason, did not. Split the trip about in halve so we were not as tired as usual. Slush was gone until we got past Happy's Inn then everything got slower. Not many on the road although it looked like more in the ditch than the morning drive.

Good morning from So Central Wisconsin and no I am not attending the re-introduced Trainfest in Milwaukee this weekend. It is in downtown Milwaukee for the first and we hear last time. Milwaukee parking is plentiful but near the convention center is considered by some to be very expensive. I really don’t need anything and the layouts I have seen many times before. I’ll wait for the Madison, Wisconsin show in February where IMO parking IS very expensive. I have a few buddies that have attended every TrainFest but are skipping this year.

its 36f degrees now up from 31 at 5am and rising to 43 later. A gloomy cloud covered morning start.

The Hockey game on campus last night was another win for the #1 Women, 6-1. Another game this afternoon at 4. The grandson’s team also won 3-0 and he’s learning to be a team player. He’s playing against bigger and older players and is figuring out how to adapt. I am impressed by his attitude in not being the “Star” for the 1st time in his playing but especially with the coaching staff bringing him along and explaining what and why they are doing it. He gets out muscled but he still has been scoring just not at the rates he was used to. In 20 games he has 14 goals for 3rd on the team but he also understands they have only lost 2 games so far this season. He says his birthday yesterday was fun

Geez it’s 8:31 and Terry is still sleeping which means she couldn’t sleep last night or… I’ll look in at 9

I have been struggling with getting a car weathered per the client wishes. After a couple days away from it I will work on it this morning. We got home last night to 3 smoke detectors chirping. I change the batteries in all detectors when the clocks are sprung back in Springtime. After changing out those 3 last night I’ve decided to get 5 more batteries and change them out just to be equal again. Boy, that chirping is annoying

enjoy your day

I believed you Willie but at 1st remembrance I would have said a Thursday. But I double checked anyway. Sorry!

Going by the little I know about liners, The two US Lines liners SS United States and the SS America, between the United States and the Aircraft Carrier, might be American Export Lines SS Atlantic...or not. Appears to be another Cunnard Liner North of the Carrier.
The US Lines Terminal is / was an auto impound lot frequently used as a location for the various Law and Order Series.

Growing up with a front porch view of Sun Shipbuilding Cos #1 Drydock had it's benefits.

Upon further review the Carrier is the Intrepid CVA11. It looks like it's under power, so pre museum. The Liner I identified as the SS Atlantic, probably isn't....upon magnification, the stack colors are not American Export Lines.

Good morning gang!

Sunny, cold and windy, as opposed to yesterdays snowy, rainy, cold and windy. The glare off of the cars in the lot at work is ridiculous, I've gotta hide behind my monitor.

JFK, I probably 💩'ed my diaper when it happened, I really don't remember, but I do remember when MLK and RFK were shot, vaguely.

Good afternoon. It's sunny and 68.
Tomorrow, I'm putting up some Christmas stuff, since Thanksgiving is so late this year. I don't put much stuff up, since it's just me. I put up my parent's ceramic tree inside, and a short string of lights around an imitation pine branch outside, so the neighbors know I know it's Christmas.

Good afternoon all!

Very hectic day. My daughters basketball team had regionals today. It was a great game and a team that has beaten us twice this year. We were very strong in the first half and had a 16 point lead. The 3rd period they let the wheels fall off and were losing by 7. the coach did a great job pulling the team together and they rallied and came back to take the lead in the 4th and pulled out a great win. We now have another game Monday night.

Then we had to go an hour north to play another basketball game for her travel team early this afternoon, The first game had to be forfeited since we were at regionals and most of the team is her school team. We had to go straight there from our morning game to play at 1pm. They were pumped from their regional win and handled this team easily. We logged almost 150 miles today in travel.

Have a great Saturday all!

You know, looking back it was great quality time with them.
There is only a brief period to seize these memories. Like you I know firsthand how valuable they are. The memories last a lifetime.

Now that my daughter is 13, I'm now uncool and an embarrassment for her to hang with me like that.
When my daughter was in her freshman year in high school, I overheard (I could hear better than) one of her friends say. "Your dad is a hottie; he is so cool" I wish I had a camera to capture the look of pure disgust on my daughter's face.

Except when she needs me to open my wallet for something.
That takes the longest to go away.

It is now Sunday and just about to close down.

We had older granddaughter visiting. Just before she was due to go home she was talking to Dawn. They were talking about the Christmas mugs we got from the grandchildren each year.
Granddaughter said, "Next time I see you you will be an Angel."
"Oh," said Dawn rather surprised (to say the least).
"Yes." replied our granddaughter, "I have made you an Angel mug this Christmas."

Goodnight all.

Reminds me of the Ex wife's Grandma. On her 95th birthday the family gathered around to shower her with gifts. One of the cousins gave her a compact disc entitled "Angel Music". I was seated next to this little 4 1/2 ft tall fireball when she turned to me and said "what the hell do I need this for, I'm gonna be hearing it soon enough!"

Cola coming out of you nose hurts!

New puter, new problems.

SO I bought this new puter for the layout and programming. I downloaded Lokprogrammer and Decoder Pro seems to be fine. I can't launch Decoder Pro. I keep getting a Java error. I downloaded Java for Win 11 . Any ideas.

Upgrade or downgrade your Java. Unless its changed since I was dealing with Java, Java is VERY version specific. The application may tell you which version you need.

I'm taking a day off!

Amazon is offering "Punk Money" The big trucks must be late or yet to be unloaded. I don't care, this punk isn't going to work for these current offers. I will enjoy my day off!

Speaking of Punk, how about what I like to call "Punk Metal" British style of course! If the coffee is not waking you up, this will! 😁
I never identified with the lyrics, but the music is too cool!

Willie is punk metal a thing, or am I "out in left field", as usual.
