Welp, howdy there internet peeps, and those anxiously waiting on word of how Willie's layout has fared in the great deluge of 2024.

Hopefully he'll have a new camera on his new phone to send us some photos with. ;)

Yesterday I talked with the Social Worker handling Mom's wing in the nursing home. He's getting her set up with maintenance to get her TV mounted on the wall and hooked up to cable. And he's transferring her old landline phone over to her new room. I told him to send the bill for that to us so it doesn't come out of mom's limited account.

We'll cancel her cell phone once I know that the landline is working. She can barely see the buttons, and can't read the text on the flip phone she uses. Landline is better for her, but cell phone is getting her by for now.

In writing news, I just cancelled my November trip to a writer conference in Vegas. It's the second favorite, and the easiest to drop. Between my burnout at the end of the year, and dealing with Mom's issues, I'm way behind on writing. And I wasn't able to pay attention to my advertising the way I needed to. I basically just traded advertising dollars for the same amount of income.

Basically the old biz school example of:
Buy watermelons at $12 per dozen, then sell them at $1 each, and wonder why there's no profit...

Next week I should be caught up dealing with Mom's pressing issues, and we'll see if I can ramp up the production of words. It's been over 9 months since I published. I should have at least one "baby" ready to fly. But I don't. The words don't word themselves.

That's it for now.

Good morning!

morning all ... We are now breaking the 80 degree mark for the year. A long cool winter for out here - it's supposed to reach 82 today with a p/c sky.

Chemo went good yesterday with very little problems - even my equilibrium seemed better as I walked to the curb where MOH picked me up without the use of my cane!

Today's session is at 11AM, but going to try and make the youngest GS's play at school. before hand ...BBL

Morning folks

36F, cloudy, and a forecast high of 56. No rain in the day's forecast but that appears questionable. Yesterday produced 1.18" of rain, some of it intense, and cost me probably 50 yards of road mix. The driveway has numerous 6" deep rills and it blew out all the water bars. On the positive side, that precip no doubt puts May at over 5" total. In short, a good month and a breath of hope for the summer, a breath that maybe will include less smoke. The mountains are all wearing new white suits again.

Yesterday was a rough one for my wife. Two times on the floor. Her abilities are obviously going "down hill" at an accelerating pace and probably time to start evaluating alternative arrangements.

Obesity: with certain obvious exceptions, it is a worldwide problem and not likely to go away anytime soon. And it is without doubt a major driving force of health insurance costs. Fast food is definitely a contributor but only one of several factors causing this.

A "town" run is on the agenda this morning, followed by grading the road flat again and reconstructing the water bars. In between the rain, yesterday was quite scenic. Heading up the driveway.

No news yet on the phone, wife walked out of the place when they wouldn't match what their salesperson told us yesterday. Of course today is his day off. She calls it "bait and switch", which it may be, but we won't know until she talks to him tomorrow when he returns to work. Our main issue is that AT&T is the only service provider that serves our location well. Others provide weak or sometimes non-existent service.
Secondly, no offense meant, I use a camera for taking pictures; I use a cell phone for talking to people and automated voice thingys.
Can't presently comment on the train shed since I am not willing to walk out there in the rain and flooding conditions. It started raining while we were in town and there was 2" in the gauge when we returned. We're getting a second wave right now. From my view from the house, the tarpaper cover put on last night has held up as expected, but of course it is just a temporary fix right now until the permanent asphalt shingle layer can be installed over it.
Between Tuesday's 1.6" and today's already 2", my pool is now overflowing!

Swal - I guess that I am not a normal American even though I am overweight. I do not eat at any fast-food establishments, except Whataburger about 4 times a year...never have eaten anything McDonald's in my life. I don't eat sugar or salt and rarely eat pre-packaged foods. I watch my carb intake pretty closely. Last night was an exception as I am a glutton for Italian food. I grow quite a bit of my own veggies organically, I just eat too much of them!
Willie the only thing I can say to that is you'll be a member of this forum a long time after I'm gone. I only started not eating at McDonald's 3 months ago. I wish it would have been sooner, but my wife & the dogs loved to hear I was going down to pick up something at McDonald's.

Afternoon All,

Started out the day with a walk at 73F and slightly humid. After errands I headed to the train room. First, I fixed a minor TT bridge issue by cleaning and lubrication. After that I finished the rest of the locomotive wheel cleaning (10 locos) but I didn't put them back on the storage tracks because I want to clean them first. Tomorrow, I have the Oral Surgeon consult and depending on what happens there I will clean the track and put the locos back.

TomO- Great layout shots.

Smudge- That horn was different. I'm glad I model before intermodal, so I don't need to sink a bunch of money into those.

Terry- I've never heard of that before.

David- Awesome family photos.

Joe- Our electric bill jumped $100 this month.

Troy- I wish you the best with your writing.

Bill- Nice photo.

Sherrel- Good to hear you are doing well. I hope you made it to granddaughters play.

Grizzled- Very sorry to hear about your wife's decline. Beautiful scenery.

Willie- Sorry to hear about your continued train shed and phone issues.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Good afternoon from the front porch in So. Central Wisconsin. Terry decided this morning that when I leave on the 5th to Kiawah Island, SC for golf she wants to come with! Then after the afternoon decision in NYC she wants to get away from the news and politics. I’ve been telling her for months, years, forever to turn the damn news off and don’t listen to or read anything from the media!

Tuesday morning we were informed that the tree in the front door wasn’t covered because it wasn’t a tornado. Then we were told the coverage was up to $21000 but had to use their authorized contractor list. They were told to send the check. No check received… Terry spoke again to our insurance agent this morning. He left maybe an hour ago, said the front door is covered for wind damages or tornado damage. Our straight line winds of last week have been re-classified as a EF 0. I can’t find anything about the NWS reclassifying our wind event. Because it’s a tornado OUR contractor is ok’d to repair the damage as replacement value. Same doors and sidelights at current market value. We’ll take it, but it’s another game Insurance companies play. I think our threat of him losing the liability policies played into it!

Update on the news media and Terry. She lasted almost 3 hours. She just came out to the porch asking if we get MSNBC. Why do I bother!

The grandson has a soccer game at 6:45

Good morning. It's 72 and clear, heading for the century mark again.
I made an interesting discovery over the last couple of days. One of my neighbors seems to have a Samsung TV or blue ray player. When I've returned from work, my TV and disc player have been running. I did the obvious remedy: I unplugged them, and they will remain that way until I need them.
Those remotes have a range 20' maybe 30' and work on IR, the only way they could be on is if you've left them on, which is unlikely, or if some kids playing games through your windows
