Alan: Interesting. Of course I know of instances where articulated cars with pins drove their owner's crazy. Nice job.

Indeed. There were two articulation methods used on these cars. The first is like the MTH Daylight coaches. A pin through the center truck bolster. Just drop the second car's pivot over the pin and voila! Then there's what I have here: A screw with tension spring that drops down to the truck below which makes the attachment, well, not permanent but a PITA to deal with. Then there's the Broadway Limited abortion. I won't describe that here except to say I think it was designed by Somali pirates.

Sometimes God reveals his humor in ways we can't understand.🤷‍♂️

Afternoon All,

Started out today painting details for the foundry then started the Walthers Northern Power & Light. cut everything off the sprues, sanded edges, and painted everything in it's appropriate colors. I still have some concrete color to paint on trim by hand. The brick color is a dark brown. In about an hour I have a haircut appointment.

Thank you for all the likes yesterday.

Louis- That is a spaghetti bowl of track and cool looking. Congrats on the passenger car deal.

Willie- Nice start to the kit. I actually like the dark color.

Garry- Great scene. I have wrestled with the idea of purchasing the P5a Box Cab. I'm gritting my teeth (because I love their looks) but to be realistic I would need at least 2...$$$$ and I'm not putting in the Catenary to support them.

Karl- That blows but I hope you get better soon. That was a close call with the Ex. Chance is a funny thing.

I hope everyone has a good night.

I just saw an advertisement for BLI with a PRR P5A boxcar electric loco. Looks nice. They have fantasy schemes too. The one in GN Empire Builder colors looks beautiful.
Garry: Thanks for the tip. When the first run was announced, I gave them serious consideration. After all, I recall seeing these in operation, and actually found an operator's manual for them even though they were gone by 1966. BLI is doing some neat fantasy schemes. I was impressed with the NYC Lightning Stripes scheme. When the first run was delivered, I read that there were numerous issues with them, then again you never hear from someone who is happy with their model. BLI also has a model of the first series of GG1, never modeled before. Looks nice, but again, I'm passing on them. I'm more of a diesel guy.

Curt: How come your work table is so neat and organized?
Are you installing the interior? If so, be careful with the wall dividing the turbines and the boiler. Somehow, I missed something and created a lot of problems for myself. They enclose two identical sections of the boiler room wall.

I was seriously considering stringing wire for catenary, but the price point for GG1s, Metroliners, MP54Es and other electrified models made it prohibitive. because of the multiples needed. (more than one of each).

Well, in the immortal words of Sherriff Buford T. Justice: Sumbitch! This stinks. I believe it is a concession to operations. The designers of the model probably allowed some additional space to allow operations around tighter radii. To close this gap will require disassembly, and drilling new holes for the articulation brackets. It's only .110 of an inch, which I believe will let me drill new holes without getting into the old ones. MTH gave you two mounting options on their Daylight cars, one for close coupled operation, which left just about this much space, and another that let the diaphragms touch. Oh well...I'll test run first then evaluate.

Afternoon all. Quite warm here in H-town, the old thermometer on the wall showing 94. I was only 3 pages behind. I think I'd like a BLT and a vanilla malt.
I decided to go with SCARM since it was the one I was most familiar with. My first attempt at Deerfield and Apple Ridge attached..

I feel so much better after my haircut and beard trim.

Alan- Would it be easier to scratch build a diaphragm in the middle?

Joe- I have a touch of OCD that makes me keep things organized and clean. That is a folding table I brought upstairs so I had a large area to organize building parts since I'm doing 7 kits back to back. This is #5.

Good morning gang!

Raining in the mid 60s, we'll see the sun tomorrow

Supposed to be at work, but was at the ER until the wee hours today. The last few days I have had a sore spot on my foot, been coating it with Neosporin and covering it. Well I got lazy and skipped a few days and it erupted into a full blown case of cellulitis in my right leg. By the I got home yesterday my leg at my calf was almost as large as my thigh. Wife took me to the ER, but because of Covid precautions, she couldn't go with me. After some xrays and ultrasound and blood drawn they put me back in the ER Triage area. There they gave me IV fluids and meds when I heard it. A familiar voice from the other side of the curtain. Someone who had fallen down a few stairs and hurt he back and knee and was getting the initial check by the staff, you know, vitals, what hurts, on a scale of 1-10,,, oh yes, and the name. It was my Ex-Wife, mother of my 3 boys. Meanwhile I am texting my current wife what was happening, and she's LOLing all over the place.
They took my EX to Xray, and I informed my nurse that I needed to have the curtain on me drawn all the time and why. He laughed! Dodged that bullet when they wheeled her back. I got out around 2 am and have been sleeping off and on since.
So thats how my holiday weekend starts. Can't work on kits with my foot propped up.

Amen Greg, Amen!

BBL

Karl, I'm sorry to hear of your trouble. I hope you get better soon.

I had a similar situation. I was in Franklin Square Hospital. They ordered some kind of test for me. I can't remember exactly, I was in pretty bad shape. So bad that I had to have a nurse escort me to monitor my vitals as I was wheeled on the bed to wherever I went. The nurse was my ex-wife, WTF!!!? She never worked a single day in over 15 years when we were married! Luckily my wife, my Angel was with me. Otherwise I may have mysteriously died on that trip to have the test done. Ther would have been nothing I could have done to save myself.

I actually thought is was some kind of strange dream from the drugs they were shooting me up with, but my wife later confirmed it.
God sure does have a strange sense of humor. I still don't get the meaning of that joke.

...
Thank you Curt, I love the PRR Congressional! It ran less than a mile from where I lived, but I honestly don't remember seeing it.

I like spaghetti, as long as there is plenty of meat. In my case, I mean trains!
What are you doing to me Louis? Just when I buy stock in Lionel, you switch brands!;)
Never fear Willie, keep your stock and you should probably buy more!

I just wanted to see how the two trains compare side by side. The Lionel Vision line train has so many "bells and whistles", they make it worth the $2000 more in price. I just could not get one, sold out! :( I took what I could get.

I Have 2 other Williams by Bachmann passenger sets, but they are semi-scale or Traditional scale to use Lionel's vernacular. I'm fixated on O scale these days.

I really like Williams by Bachmann, but their locomotives don't have Legacy command controls and all the "bells and whistles".

I've dipped my toes into MTH as well, but their command control system, DCS seems rinky dink to me. If Lionel had made a Canton RR SW1500, I would have not bought the MTH.

I'm still a true Blue (and Orange) Lionel fan!
