During WW2 my mother was in the Air Transport Auxiliary.
As she lived to the age of 23, I wondered (often) where she learned to fly aircraft?

According to the information I have just been told, a new airport was being built and being a 'tomboy' she hung around the hangar. Always asking questions a pilot or two showed her how to do so. ( Was it a way to keep her quiet?)
When mother (and my grandmother with her children) arrived in the U.K., she became a pilot in WW2 ferrying aircraft to bases mainly north England and Scotland.

Another piece in the puzzle solved.

Good morning all!

Going to be an absolutey gorfeaus day today. Currently 43F with an expected high of 74F under sunny skies. Going to feel more like
an early summer day than an early spring day. Everyone will be out in T-shirts and shorts today!

Usual household stuff this morning. I have to run my wife's car out to the dealer this morning for an oil change and an air bag recall. We
will be taking this to Florida on the 28th and have to have it serviced.

Not much else going on at the moment.

Have a safe day everyone!

Good Morning All. Clear and a rather cool 40° this morning. Mother Nature didn't follow the forecast yesterday and the high temperature never got above 50° after our high for the day of 73° was achieved at 4:00 am. I got a total of 1.75" of rain out of the thunderstorms that persisted all morning. Back into the 70's today and 84° tomorrow! Thunderstorms return Tuesday if the NWS is right; they have about a 25% accuracy rate around here this year.

I usually only have issues with this site between 0500 and 0700 in the morning, yesterday it was all day long. If it's truly the bots that are the cause, I did note that there were over 2300 guests at one time. As I type these words, there are over 3400 guests. Maybe the time change will make a difference - not!

Had a really lazy day yesterday. Probably did some chores but I don't remember them. I did finally get the wife's soft drink stash out of the car from Thursday's grocery trek; buy 3 12-packs and get 3 free! At the price of soft drinks, one must take advantage of these deals. Here the cost has doubled in the last 4 years; even more than beef has! Matter of fact, the cheapo American bland beer is now less expensive than the full price of soft drinks!

Out in the train shed yesterday, I piddled around with the newly created space a bit. Emptied the box with the stuff that I had previously had in the area before I packed it away.

A total of six homes, a church, 11 vehicles, a stray chimney and 28 figures; some of which are in vehicles and structures. As best as I can remember, this is how I had them all set up, less the figures. Vehicles on the road are the ones with drivers/passengers.View attachment 259699
I'll look at it for a few days and make additions, changes or subtractions before deciding on anything permanent. I have a number of additional residential structures already built that would fit in the area in front, just have to find some that have a detailed backside. I have decided against adding the extra trackage on the outside of the loop that I posted about yesterday; it would serve no purpose. Got to figure something for the two corners though, as well as a transition to the staging yard on the left and the "nothing" still on the right..

Terry - The PC and DEI stuff hasn't really evolved around here yet. Probably has in the bigger cities, but overall Texas has some laws curbing it to some extent. However your type of business might be different.

Everyone have a great Sunday.
WOW Willie that's some big expansion project. Where did you find all that room? Swal

That's awesome that you can make that connection and find out stuff like that.

Morning all,

53° and clear, high of 79° later. Rain possible tomorrow.

Busy weekend, made shorter by the time change. Funny how every year for the past 12 years, some state rep or senator puts in a bill about not doing the time change, but nothing comes of it. Almost made a political charged statement...😆

Got the trimmings from the peach tree hauled off along with branches from the kids yards. The peach tree has pink buds and will probably bloom this week, about 2 weeks early. I still expect another hard frost, and after last year's harvest, don't expect many peaches. I'd like to get some new apple trees, but undecided what to get. Can't just buy 2 of the same tree and expect apples, many need a different variety of tree to cross with.

I made a discovery earlier this weekend. Most states allow you to renew tags and driver licenses online, and pay with a credit or debit card. The state I live in is no exception. In my state, you can either go to the state's website or your local county's website to perform these tasks. The state uses a third party payment company to process these payments, and charges a fee for doing so. Some companies and states more so than others. In the case of my state, the processing company charges a several dollar "convenience fee" when using any payment method at all, probably to cover the expense of the charges the card companies impose on those payments.
However, my county offers the same services, and there is no fee if you submit your payment as an e-check, or ACH payment. I just took advantage of this, and renewed registration on two vehicles for two years each, and saved myself $7 in fees.
A buck here, two there, adds up over the course of a month, or year, and saving that much per transaction results in substantial savings.

That's awesome that you can make that connection and find out stuff like that.
It has taken me 70 odd years to find that out. :)

The story handed down ----

'See that Scotch? woman. (My grandmother) Lets her kids run wild instead of teaching them manners on how to be ladies.' etc. etc.'
'Kids over by the airfield. They have no business being there.'

A young teenager who knew how to fly airplanes.
A Government in a war turning a blind eye and by 1943 she was flying 2 and 4 engine airplanes.

50°F here this morning. Expecting to see 80°F today and 82°F tomorrow before thunderstorms Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.

Waiting for a new holster that USPS was supposed to deliver Saturday. I knew that wasn't going to happen. Might not even happen today. Also ammunition is due to arrive via UPS that's already out for delivery, so batting .500 so far today. I wish I could send USPS to the showers.

Have a safe week! Servus!

Good morning from Wisconsin. Mother Nature is being extremely kind for March! 48f degrees now 71 later per the WeatherChannel app. Terry says we are going SOMEWHERE today which I think means anywhere as she offered no clues. She just needs out…

Was at the bench most of yesterday. Started off painting a couple storage tanks and then working on custom detail parts for those kits. The dehydrator got a good work out yesterday as I was moving things in and out of it all day. Finally at 10:45pm I walked away! Both tanks are dry enough and after 7 hours in the dehydrator overnight they are ready for weathering. One is a bunker c oil tank and I can’t wait to dirty up that guy. I’d like to give both tanks to my friend Wednesday when I head over to his layout for a work session. He sent me pictures of a “haul”,he made yesterday. A operating session buddy had some kits and other leftovers from building his layout. One of them was a Tichy #7013 water or oil tank

Just like this one that I plan to give him Wednesday.

I told him you never have enough tanks but I made no offer to assemble the newest one

Enjoy your day

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 61°, more than 20° warmer than yesterday. Supposed to be 83° today and then back to normal for a few days only before warming up again.

Wow! I really slept in this morning, didn't get up until 7:00, late even by standard time which would have been 6:00. I am in the camp of don't mess with the clock, pick either standard time or daylight time and leave it there year round. Although it doesn't really matter to me much since other than scheduled appointments, I don't really use the clock any more.

Another ho-hum Sunday around here yesterday, Mass, bed linen laundry and taking the trash out to the dumpster. There's evidence that the local feral cat has been getting into the dumpster through the warped lid. It might get a nasty surprise some day if it's in there on a Friday morning when it's emptied.
Looks like I erred in not topping off the gas tank in the car while I was out Thursday, oil is over $100/barrel today. Got to go to town to pick up a prescription refill that the pharmacy had to order. I'll fill up then.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I ran some trains and studied my newly cleared space. I first tied up the dangling wiring overhead for both practical and aesthetic reasons. Then I took some previously built residential structures off the shelf and played around with the arrangement. I'm currently looking at eliminating the circle at the RH side and making a corner and extending the street down that side. Here are two views with 5 added structures and a potential layout. Some of the trackage on the left will be removed.

Still tentative but seems to be coming together.

John - Your weather people aren't any more accurate than mine; probably the same guys anyway just using a different version for your area.
Willie..... I enjoy your layout updates.
Thank you.
Swal - The wireless charging pad in our 2024 Lexus doesn't charge nearly as fast as the wired USB plug does. We have multiple USB-C ports, none of which work unless the engine is running.
Terry - I don't know whether or not the county and state even offer separate license renewals online; but the convenience fee here is just $1. Cheaper than paying for the gas for a 46 mile round trip to the county office, even at the old gas prices.

Everyone have a great Monday.

I think hell has finally frozen over. My Bar Mills order tracking shows that my package is on a delivery truck and should be delivered between 1pm & 5pm.

IF it does arrive it will only be about a month after they said it should have been delivered.

On a happier note, all my firearm auctions closed waaaay above I had anticipated yesterday. 3 closing every Sunday and 3 starting every Sunday.
This one has a week to go and it is already about $500 more than I thought it would close at. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1159647279
