Good morning all!

Currently 42F going up to the mid 50s. Not as warm as the first 70F of the year we had yesterday, but
we will take it. Looks like a pretty good weather week ahead.

Volleyball regionals continue tonight with a 6pm game., so its probably a Culvers night on the go.

Train funk is starting to fade away. I actually went down last night and contemplated moving on with scenery. I will need
sculptamold, (a lot of sculptamold) to start attaching rock castings to the mountains I started on over the summer and
fall.

not sure what else is happening today.

Have a safe day everyone!

Morning all,

51° and clear going for a high of 78° later. Got to 80° yesterday and they think it might again today.

Not much happening on the train side yet. Hopefully I can get back into it as I lost last weekend to fences and grandkids. We had the 2 oldest granddaughters as the the dad of the younger of the two brought her over on his weekend and the other came over for a sleep over. Then we took them both home. One lives local, the other about 70 miles away.

bigfoot13: Those look ok to my eyes. I'd be happy with them.

WestEssexJohn: I had AT&T as my cell and internet provider for many years and was always able to get service on my internet. But I also killed the landlines over 20 years ago when AT&T decided to charge $10 for long distance whether you used it or not and it was free on our cell phones. Don't miss the landline as the darn cell phone rings when I sit down to dinner any way. 🤣

How does a locomotive hear another locomotive?

With it's engine ears! (engineers)

Lot's has been happening and I'll make a full report soon.

However, I set up a small loop of track today. When I took down my previous "test track", which was a double tracked large loop on an 4x8 board with a spur and also a splitting of the tracks for a station platform, I did not take apart all the DCC stuff. I just unhooked the track wires.

I had been testing various bits so I still had my DR5000 command station, to DR5088RC RailCom block detection units, a DR5003 booster (one RailCom detector on each of the command station and booster), as well as a switch controller, a Digitrax LNWI WiThrottle unit hooked to the command station over LocoNet, and some other stuff... That's all still hooked together on a single board so I set up two blocks on my small oval and have one block hooked to the DR5000 and one to the DR5033 booster through the two DR5088RC detection units, etc.

I have the DR5000 in Z21 mode but for some reason I cannot get my Z21 apps to control anything. It doesn't respond. But if I run WiThrottle Lite app through the LNWI, I can control a train (across both blocks so I know it's working :) ), and I can use the DR5000 control utility on my PC connected by USB to control stuff as well. So I am still debugging why the Z21 mode is not working.

The whole purpose for this is I want to get back to working on my throttle app I started back in 2020--2022. I'm wanting to convert it from its existing Swift / UIKit / RxSwift base to the Apple reactive framework Combine / SwiftUI. I did a little development using SwiftUI / Combine last summer at work but not enough to have any sort of confidence in it, and I want to get really proficient. What better project to do it with than my throttle app and converting it (and releasing it! as a portfolio type app). Better than just useless mindless tutorials. I'll do those but then I will apply it to my own app.

These were the first trains in a long while I've had running...

Now this is a dedicated model railroader. The house isn’t quite finished but he can run a train.

Congrats

Good morning from So. Central Wisconsin where yesterday we reached 70f degrees. Spent the morning of course at the clinic while Terry had her cataract surgery that was quick and so far successful. I don’t know how she slept but only 1 of 3 lamps came on this morning in the great room when I switched on the lights. That means she tried to sleep up here. But she is sleeping now in the downstairs guest room. Her follow up appointment is a 15 minute drive away at 9:15. I will wake her at 8:30 if she is not up by then. Everyone was concerned the surgery would kick off another flare up of her Trigeminal Neuralgia. She was ok at midnight bedtime. It’s been quieter but she’s still having issues but her maintenance meds keep her from driving.

The weather today will be nowhere near yesterday’s 70. Currently 45 degrees feeling like 32 and heading only to 50.

We should be home by 10am unless she decides a good breakfast out would be nice. In the clinic area there are some excellent breakfast places, a couple higher end we will avoid but there are 2 cheap dives that truly serve great breakfast. Her decision!

The grandson was picked Saturday to try out for a Statevwide hockey competition. On Sunday I was standing before the game by the glass near a few of the parents who were complaining about the 2 picks from his team to one of evaluators for the regional team. I was unaware until then Brooks was picked! This guy is also an assistant coach for the regional team and also the current team the grandson just played on this season. He told them the 2 high goal scorers on the team were slow, puck hogs, wouldn’t listen to the coaches and not team players. (I call them black holes) Once they get the puck the only way out is a shot on net. He went on to tell these parents the regional team looks for good teammates, speed, plus shooting and passing skills. He said Brooks (the gd/s) and Caleb were exactly what this team was looking for. He also said both see the ice as good as any past players he has evaluated. I thought those were nice comments and IMO spot on. Brooks finished 2nd in scoring on the team with 42 goals and 48 assists in 76 games. The 2 high goal scorers though finished overall 5th and 6th in points with their center getting 90 some points. The son in law texted me he only had only 8 goals with all the rest being assists. The SIL is the team statistician!

Enjoy the day

Back from round one of the morning errands.

Not sure about egg prices since we don't go through a lot of them.

But the SALAD aisle at the grocery was wiped out. Only two boxes in the "organic" aisle - and no baby spinach leaves for the wife. Her one spinach plant isn't keeping her satisfied on the leafy greens.

Got the cat another bag of treats. we've still got about a week+ in the old bag, but I had a coupon. Don't want the cat to worry about his treat bag going low. He gets grumpy when he sees a new bag of cat food kibbles, but the dish still has old kibbles in the gravity feeder. He wants NEW. It's right THERE! Put it in NOW!

Need to head out to Dicks Sporting goods and get the wife a couple of inner tubes for her bike. They've completed the Bike path across from our neighborhood. We can now bike all the way to her favorite Italian restaurant with just the bike path!

Of course, brining the left-overs home will be an experience.

The path is a paved Next to the Road bike and walking path, not a lane ON the road.

We'll see if we ever go there. Pizza King is to the east of the Red Pin for the restaurant. We'd have to bike through some parking lots to get there (no sidewalk or path on that road and it's a busy state highway.) But we could bike there. At least that's what I tell myself.

Oh, and I stopped for a car wash to get winter off the car.

Good Morning All. Clear and 45°, that's 8° lower than the forecast; a little chilly this morning. The weather geeks are still predicting 80°+ for the next four days. They're also predicting high SW winds on Friday, that usually means dust-storms.

Nothing special about yesterday. I mowed a bit and started mulching the pathways in the garden. Used a combination of wood chips and grass clippings from last fall. Nothing on the "must do" agenda today. I'll probably gather some more already cut firewood from back out by the hay field and bring it closer to home (the wood stack). A bit later I will hoe some more of the garden to break up the surface crust from the recent rain. That will disrupt any additional weed seeds that might have germinated since the last hoeing.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I finished the initial construction and painting of the new structure kit. As with many kits that I have, there is already one of these on the layout. The first one was painted differently and they will be separated across the room, so only I will know that they are duplicates, although they are both intended to be restaurants.
Here's the predecessor:

First was to fix the molding holes that are present in every Smalltown USA structure kit.

Then paint inside the exposed area to resemble the backside of a brick wall that has been tarred.

Sidewalk and window treatments are next.

Swal - The only one that I have had issues with is walking into a room and forgetting why I'm there. Happens occasionally.
David - Belated Happy Birthday.
I am of the school of eating what I like when I like. Drink tea and coffee when I like.
I've been that way for most of my life, but I do like my organically grown veggies and I eschew fast foods. I don't like salt, sugar or coffee either. Are my health issues due to those eating habits??? I'll never know.
Tom O -
In other egg news is the USA#1 producer is reporting record profits even though 1/2 the chickens were destroyed. Gee, how can that happen?
Maybe it was a profitable deal with the closest cat/dog food manufacturer???
Mike - I bought plenty of shock and acid during the off-season, so I am ready. Water temperature won't be right for another 4-5 weeks though. It will warm up rapidly under that dark winter cover, but drops about 10° almost as soon as I take it off.
Chad - That's one hell of an electronic setup for one simple loop.;)

Everyone have a great Tuesday.

It's going to be about 50 and dry. Taking the new shooter I've been mentoring to the range today.

I'm going to continue to work with him on the "zen" of rifle shooting. I was the 2010 & 2011 state smallbore silhouette champion (Master Class). Breathing, slowing the heart rate, releasing between beats, and proper follow through. If he does it right he will see the bullet hit the target. He's been doing well so far, with the equipment he has. He just needs to focus & refine his technique and I need to adjust his rifle's trigger, for pull weight and overtravel.

Shooting, like a lot of skills, is frangible if you don't practice......a lot.

Good mornin' y'all. Its 31 and partly cloudy in Cheyenne this am. Light westerly breeze looking for a high of 59 and low tonight of 33 with no precipitation in the forecast.
Good day yesterday. Went to clinic for blood work, to Walmart to pick up several cans of primer and some other stuff, and a walk-through at Michael's. Back out later for some Mexican food. Didn't need the walker at all. Slowly but surely getting my legs back under me.
Went out to the train shed for a while yesterday evening and primed all the detail castings I had ready.
Today: Helping NJ(ret) unpack, sort, and stow more of her stuff. Got just a few more items of mine to transfer from moving boxes to plastic storage bins. Planning on getting a bit more workbench time later.
Well, time to guzzle down this fistful of pills and finish off my daily 12 oz of Colombiano Supremo. Y'all have a good day and take care.
