Note that most of the NYC switchers that made their way down to the Philadelphia and Chesapeake Divisions, were not equipped with a "Dead Man", which required assignment of a Fireman each shift, until the engines were equipped with a "Dead Man".
Just before I left the RR in 1981 new engines were equipped with the make and break contact with something on the control panel every 15 seconds otherwise, the brakes would automatically come on. I can't remember if these engines also had a dead man.

Good Morning All. Looks like clear and 42° out there on the back porch. Another nice spring day in store, upper 60's, slight wind from the NE and sunny all day. Up and down up into the mid-80's for the next ten days if the weather geeks are to be believed. Another severe weather chance this Thursday.
Yesterday was an event filled day. Started with Mass, then brunch with another couple from our church, home for a nap, then wash the bed linens while going for a walk partially with my wife. She doesn't do the distance that I do. Got the weedeater out for the first run of the season, and finally dinner out at our favorite Italian restaurant. What's missing? I didn't spend any time out in the train shed.

Another week, another medical visit this morning. A new to me ENT guy for cleaning out the ears. My wife sees this guy every 3-4 years and decided that I needed to go as well this time. I've had it done with a different doc many years ago and probably should go more often. The timing is right as lately I am having a hell of a time, even when I turn my hearing aids up. Up to the point that the occasional feedback reminds me of a high school assembly back in the 60's when the principal kept tapping the microphone saying "testing". I am particularly cautious about using "home remedies" since I don't need any further deterioration. What's worse? 42% hearing loss or 58% remaining??? Once done, I can schedule a visit with the audiologist for my (late) yearly servicing and adjustment.

As I posted above, no train shed yesterday. How about a rehash of some of my favorite photos from late member Garry.

Tom O - The hobby shop cartoon kinda hits home with me. I patronized a one man LHS for 22 years. Weekly visits and I escalated the amount that I spent there in the last 5 years, due to my impending planned retirement. I stocked up on track, kits, rolling stock and stuff because I was also in the process of building the new layout in the newly built train shed. I told him about a month before I retired that I would be cutting back my visits. He retired and shut down 3 months after I retired. It's too bad, since not only was he a 20% discounter from MSRP, but he always threw in some freebies every week like a bottle of paint or a package of detail parts. If I had no small irems, he would take $10 off a loco or something like that.
Karl - Good luck on the family affairs. I got into Aerosmith a couple of albums earlier than "Toys in the Attic". Still in their glory days. None of them make me feel old, as they are all older than me!;)
Milw -

You might try 1/8 scale.
Todd - I looked at the haul in the RPO thread. Looks real good.

On this day in 1998, Viagra was approved by the FDA for general prescription sale and use.

Everybody have a great day.
Willie, I was once told the main ingredient in Viagra was the same active ingredient as that found in Fix-a-Flat.

Just getting back from Northern Westchester Hospital after my wife was injected with some radiation and then nuclear scanned for her upcoming back operation. This machine goes back and forth and around as needed.

It was called an "Alertor" if I remember correctly, and it replaced the Deadman pedal. Further down the road, Conrail boughtengines with "Deadman" feature because it was "CHEAPER!". ;);):rolleyes:

Afternoon All,

Started out with some chores then attended a HOA management meeting with the other officers, HOA management rep, and a new landscaping company. Not sure why I was there since I didn't open my mouth and I'm not a HOA officer. After lunch I hooked up the 4 signals electrically of course not without drama. Hooking up the first one before soldering it worked OK, but after soldering it didn't. I figured it was a bad solder and proceeded to cut the wrong wire!😲 I also noticed that I placed the signal in the wrong direction. 😳😳 I was thinking of the commercial with the song about people doing stupid stuff. SMH. I had no issues with the other 3 signals.

Joe- Nice 1:1 photo.

Todd- It sounded like a fun day.

Smudge- I wish the video had a full shot of the steamer.

Willie- Love seeing photos from Garry's layout again.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Hey kids, dropping in to ask a question.

I have this Seaboard heavyweight sleeper. I'd been wanting to sell it, until I started finding photos and video of PRR stuff running through the Rockies on Milwaukee passenger trains. I'm now tempted to use this Seaboard car as a run-thru sleeper. It's two-tone gray scheme, can anyone tell me what years this would work for? If it's around 1955, it's good enough for me.
