One of the only NY political moves I agree with. As of this year NY Veterans can play any NY state golf courses free. James Baird Park golf course a real nice NY state course only about 12 miles from here. Another nice one when I head to the track The Spa Saratoga Springs, NY.

During the week on television we watch 'Traitors U.S.'. Anyone over the pond seen it?
I haven't seen it, but after reading about it online it does sound interesting and I'm not a fan of reality TV.
Not sure if son is visiting today. We tend to come second (maybe sixth) unless he wants anything.
Being a parent can be the most thankless job in the world. But it's the only job God gave us; we must do our best.

Happy Father's Day!

I've found Biden to be on point, (without the dancing.) But, I don't watch the news networks that are biased against him and crop videos to show him "wandering off" instead of going to give a thumbs up to the paratroopers who just landed...
And you avoid the news networks where he starts mumbling about stuff or says cognitively stupid things or doesn’t know where he’s going. No paratroops who just landed at major international conferences.

Foreign press is good for this.

You're talking about Nissan? I think now i remember, Nissan was bought by Renault, or something like that. The thing is most cars (as well as almost anything else) is designed to break at certain time; so called planned obsolescence. That's why we are dealing with crappy machinery. Most comes down from the top, to make profits. I used to have a Renault BTW, real one before they got into heavy electronics: excellent cars and the only problem was finding parts for it, since the last ones were sold in the US in 1989.
No. Cars and other stuff aren’t built to break after X years. What is the case is that they spec parts at certain price points and at those price points the parts will last X years. But it’s not designed that way.

Also everything is becoming much more integrated so where as in the past of a relay blew you replaced it with a $40 relay and you were good. Now all the delays are miniaturized and embedded on a board and if one relay blow you need to replace the whole $800 board plus labor. Just because your horn broke. (That very thing happened to me. Had a 2006 dodge 2500 mega cab and the horn didn’t work. In 2013 the horn was not working. I took it in and they said the relay was bad. $1200 for parts and labor. And that was 2013. Probably much more now. I said no thanks and traded it in for a new VW TDI Sportwagen. Being a low mileage Cummins truck it had only lost something like $10k or $12k in 7 years and the new car was less than the trade value by a grand.

Anyway the companies don’t say that we need to make sure this only lasts 5 years or whatever so that people will buy a new one. They say that we need this part at this price point and the sum of all the cheap parts means it ends up lasting about 5 years or whatever. But the impetus is the initial price points and costs, not trying to force later business. People are usually pissed when their car or their tech doesn’t last as long as they think it should and so won’t buy the same brand often if they feel they were cheated. So the so-called planned obsolescence doesn’t usually work out and is not the goal. Even if the effect is the same.

I knew it was something like that. Didn't know Mitsubishi was in there. I guess Mercedes which had Mitsubishi for a while decided it was not worth it. Really the only good Mitsubishi i think would be the "Evo" since it was designed with sports competition in mind.
I think it was more Chrysler with Mitsubishi and since Chrysler for a time merged with Daimler (Mercedes) that Mercedes got hooked up with Mitsubishi. I’m just making an educated guess here based on how I understand history.

I’m any case several years ago Mitsubishi needed some sort of bail out and Nissan came to their rescue. That’s how they got into the current alliance IIRC. Something about a testing scandal with Mitsubishi leading to the need.

Just back from lunch at Beer Barrel pizza.

Pizza was decent, but different. Even with "italian sausage" it lacked spice. Rather sweet on the sauce and crust. It's low on our list, but doable for when we want to get a couple of meals out of a close trip.

We have a Giordano's Pizza about 20 min north, and a mom&pop place that is just as good with a thinner pie, 15 min away. This place from today is about a 10 min drive, with lots of seating.

Afternoon All,

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY

Started out the day doing some small chores the went to the grocery store with MOH after a breakfast of waffles. Supper tonight is Swiss Steak (tomato type) which is my favorite and a berry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. It's good to be a father on Father's Day. Tomorrow I will probably roll done the road instead of walking! Tomorrow, I think I'm starting an outdoor project for MOH.

News: I have AllSides.com on my phone. The stories are ranked LLCRR.

Patrick- I'm glad you seem to be doing well post op.

Bill- Very cool family photo.

Smudge- Nice video.

Swal- It sounds like you did well with the sales.

Joe- It looks great but very long.

David-Sorry to hear about your son. I've never heard of that show.

Willie- Sorry to hear about the structures.

Troy- There's a place about 10 minutes from here that I like but every time I eat it, I get the runs (only me). So, after several times no more.

This is the first photo taken on vacation (Love Field, Dallas) from a moving airplane. Expand it to see the diesels and tank cars.

I hope everyone has a good night.

It comes down to the same thing. Parts are poor quality for a reason, and that reason is profits. That price point you're writing about is just a fancy way to say it. According to "common expectations", one of my cars is obsolete. All that means is that someone decided to call it obsolete, and that's it, no more. I run it because it's cheaper to run it than newest cars. The reason it's cheaper to run it is because i can do most of the maintenance on it myself.
You wrote companies will not say it "we need to make sure it will last only 5 years"-that is obvious. No company or bussiness will quote it. If you do an actual budget comparing running old reliable vehicle to a new one, the older vehicle will come out on top, both in costs and economy. Of course the companies will try to sell new vehicles, it's bussiness. But what i mean an "actual budget": taking into account drilling and mining raw materials to have for an actuall build of a new car. Problem is most people are sheep and they do not think deeper where all the materials come from. Most think groceries come from the store, and cars come from dealerships.
As for parts, you are incorrect. Why? Because as someone who maintains vehicles, i know for a fact that older and most of the time, original parts on vehicles are simply better quality, no if, ands, or buts about it. I have run for well over 100K miles with original parts in older vehicles and when it came time to replace those parts, the replacements are almost universally of less quality.
