Howdy from Maine .

Willie ... Good to hear everything was successful.

Tomorrow we go to NH to ride the Cog Railway up Mt. Washington .

Have a nice day , everybody .

Good morning. Looks like another warn day with temps in the upper 80's. The saving grace is that we don't have much in the way off humidity.

Garry - Enjoy the ride and post some photos.

Joe - Like the warehouse. You gotta post more photos of your layout.

Chad - Enjoying your photos. Keep them coming.

Dave - Nice photos. Like the caboose. Picked one like it up at last years train show for five bucks. Metal wheel but no couplers. I would have replaced then any way with the 158's that I installed.

Beady
- You have to be a bit faster on your feet to keep the laundry load down. Rotsa ruck.

Patrick - How is the grand son enjoying working on the railroad?

Johnny
- Nice main street photo.

Willie - That area your are working on is really coming to life. The Iron Works fits right in.

My parting photo is the end of the caboose track at the club.

Sherrel:
As far as the knee, the first replacement was due to an injury I suffered about 22 years before. I slipped on ice during an ice storm and chipped the bone on the back of my right knee cap. I did like most of us do and sucked it up for about 6 months before I saw the Rr. He ended up scoping it and got a little aggressive so after about 20+ years of surgeries and cartilage tears, etc. I had it replaced just before my 48th Birthday. I then proceeded to do what I was told NOT to do and broke the implant free. I had revision surgery at the 14 month mark as I was working for accountants and didn't want to take a 2nd tax season off. The revision has held so far, it is the soft tissue I still have issues with.

The pictures are of what I've done so far in N-scale for the grandson. I hope to have him running trains fairly soon. I just wish mine were as far along....lol

Montanan: He likes working on it ok...he just wants to know when he can run trains! lol

Good afternoon Shop Dwellers, 91*F with an Air Quality alert in my central MD location. Looks like a bit of medical drama has been happening among us over the past 24 hours.

Willie - glad to hear your wife's knee surgery was successful! Hopefully she'll do the necessary PT exercises in spite of the pain they entail.

Beady - positive thoughts coming your way for relief of the runaway GI blues.

Joe - WOW, looks like I hit a nerve when I mentioned that dude's name, sorry 'bout that! :D Layout is looking good...

Justin - nice score on the geep. I remember as a teenager, going down to MB Klein's and buying a half-dozen dummy Athearn Bluebox GP7s just so I could paint up at least one of each C&O GP7/9 paint scheme I'd seen in photos. I simply swapped-in a powered chassis whenever I wanted to run one as the lead unit on the BSME club layout. Life was good in those days...

* * *

At 1:20pm today I realized it was exactly two weeks ago at this very time, that my surgery moment had arrived. I remember it vividly: the nurse unlocking the wheels of my gurney; my wife kissing me goodbye for what felt like the final time; being rolled thru the maze of hallways in the Hopkins medical complex; the OR lead nurse greeting me and asking me to state my full name, date-of-birth, and planned procedure; and finally, the anesthesiologist saying "This'll feel a little cold when it first flows into your vein, then you won't remember anything." He was right!

Beady -- I will refrain from saying to you that I hope everything comes out O.K.; It seems to have already done so!
Not a problem. What bothers me are the sneak attacks. The last couple of days have given new emphasis to the saying that you should "never trust a fart."

Hmm, I hope this doesn't scar our drive-by complainer.

Anyway, I seem to have made it through most of the day. I highly recommend the restrooms in your local library.

80F at 6:30AM on Awaji-Shima. (Island just outside Kobe on the way to Shikoku, though this time we are not going to Shikoku -- last time I was on this island was when we drove through to Naruto on Shikoku when my now-16 year old son was a toddler).

Keep the train pics coming. I like to see what everyone is doing.

Yesterday we drove to Awaji-shima and stopped at a really nice rest area in order to grab a bite to eat. The rest areas/service areas on the highways in Japan are very nice affairs with sit down service restaurants, window take and sit restaurants, ice cream, baked goods/donuts, gift shops, etc. I did a FB Live from it on my Densha Bahn page.

The pic with the bridge in the background was taken from the overlook at the rest area. That bridge connects the island to the main land (Honshu) and that is my son and daughter with their grandma (wife's mom).

Later that afternoon we drove to some "dolphin experience" site where my wife, my sister-in-law, and the two kids suited up and got to swim with the dolphins, as well as feed them, pet them, and get a short "ride" around the pool with them.

More train pics next time we ride them.

Good evening, from a quite mild Jersey Shore.

I know that right where Cherry Hill(Delaware Township pre-1960). I spent most of my first 40-something years within 20 minutes of there. My hometown of Stratford is only about 10 minutes down the road.

Mike: I had forgotten about Cherry Hill once being called Delaware Twp. Once upon a time, it was a place for Pennsylvanians to go for entertainment, and shopping. There was the Latin Casino, Garden state Park, the Kon Tiki with the torches on the porch and the Cherry Hill Mall. South Jersey, is culturally somewhat different than Central and Northern Jersey, But when it comes to taxes and mandates, it's all the same.

Joe - WOW, looks like I hit a nerve when I mentioned that dude's name, sorry 'bout that! :D Layout is looking good...

Ken: First of all How ya feelin tonight, hope your getting things together with the exercises.

Concerning Kneiling, I reiterate he wasn't all bad or wrong. He just had this attitude about railroad employees, (at all levels), that was extremely offensive. Stuff like that wouldn't be written today.
In his writings, everyone in the industry was a otherwise unemployable dolt, and no one knew as much as he did. I'm not offended by your mentioning him, just thought I would express myself. Second thought, his columns would be interesting to re-read considering what we know now.
Suspect that part of his attitude came from the fact that he was not an insider, but earned his living as an industrial Consultant. Who employed him, who was he speaking for, the Shippers?

Thanks, Layout is coming along rather slowly. looking at 2017 photos, it's hard to tell a difference. While looking for something else, I found what I needed to finish the building. Now I can complete that particular module and move on to the next need.

Joe - Like the warehouse. You gotta post more photos of your layout.

Chet: Thanks. Like I told Ken, not much has happened in two years, everything I have has already been uploaded here. What I need to do is get into gear and do something worthy of posting. I can't wait, for instance, to get my sound equipped Baldwin and Alco switcher out and running. Just assembled a few additional ventilation fans and ducts for the building tonight. Gotta finish one before I start another.

For those of you, that may find this useful, The new RMC arrived today, and they have another installment of their project Commuter railroad. I find this prototype based layout interesting enough that I will incorporate portions of it into my layout this fall. It really is a neat and practical way of adding low impact passenger service to existing layouts..

Boris

Good morning. It's 74 and mostly cloudy. The gas company finally after 7 months (!) finished installing our natural gas feed yesterday. I test-ran the furnace just now, and after bleeding the air out of the system, it works.
Do all y'all know why I run my furnace when it's the middle of Summer?
Because I can...

Good morning, y'all 78° and sunny. Looking forward to another Summer day.

Terry: Great news, now you are no longer hostage to oil deaalers and LPG dealers. Best part is you're heating costs will run lower, and no more carrying ashes to the curb.

Boris

Good morning everyone. 68 and clear out there.

Chad - Keep the photos coming from Japan. I was stationed at Kamiseya Naval Communications Station for two years in the early 70's - wait a minute, I can't be THAT old, can I?? Got to know the Fuji - Five lakes region real well.
Garry - Looking forward to photos from your train ride up Mt. Washington.
Chet - nice photo

Here are a couple of photos of my latest work, increasing the "busyness" and population of the south end of the town:
SouthEndOfMainStreet1.jpg

SouthEndOfMainStreet3.jpg

I like the "look" of this part of town now. Again, sorry for the fuzziness of the photos. These were taken with my iPad camera. I do have a good SLR so maybe I'll start using that to take train photos.

Well, time for more coffee. Have a good day everyone.

Good morning, 60 and sunny, headed for 77.

Chet: neat to see you have the duplicate caboose. I am thinking I may have yet a third one as well stored away as well.

Johnny: I like the way your downtown is looking!

Patick: The knee issue sounds like a bummer. I am thankful mine are holding up so far.

not much to comment on, however was feeling tired out today. We have numerous interns working in the lab now, they will be returning to school in a week or two then things maybe be more normal around here.

I got some more work done on the Water tank last night, looks like I may need to cut the legs shorter. They came pre cut but the tank is noticeably taller than the prototype. The wife said no one will notice if I don't point it out. The problem is, I notice.

Here is a shot of one of my old time box cars:

Good Morning All from the comfort of home this morning. 75° and partly cloudy. Rain came close yesterday but never amounted to more than a trace. We'll be toying with 100° for the next five days or so. Gimme a piece of that hot apple pie along with some bacon and scrambled eggs this morning Flo.
Wife's still in the hospital, with release slated for this afternoon. She went through one physical therapy session yesterday and will go through two more today prior to release. They would have let her out last evening if she insisted, but she decided to stay overnight in order to let all of the effects of the "saddle-bloc" wear off, and to get the two extra PT sessions with the professionals. She texted me this morning that she felt more pain, but was passing on the increased dosages of morphine derivatives. I'll post more details for Joe and Sherrel, who asked for them, as soon as I remember all of them. I once again wish to thank one and all for your concern, prayers and well wishes; they seemed to have worked.

Obviously didn't spend any time in the train shed yesterday, but I did finish that very small dumpster enclosure project Sunday evening.

That's two less pieces of stuff for the scrap box!

Beady - Sounded like a busy day for you yesterday.
Patrick -
Listening to all you "old" people with your medical issues makes me glad I'm not yet that old, despite the fact my grandson calls me an "old man" . lol
Wait! I might resemble that! LOL Not all of us "old" people are dealing with adverse medical issues. However kudos to all of them who have dealt with and overcome them. Modern medicine can work wonders. That's not to say that I haven't had a few issues, I have a mouth full of implants and crowns, does that count? LOL
Thanks for the thoughts and advice for my wife. I have been reminding her daily about your and others admonishments regarding the therapy.
Wish that I still had a Radio Shack close by.:(
Garry - Have a good time in NH.
Chet - Thanks for the comment. Although I am taking a short break from scenery (if I can hold back), I am looking forward to completing that parcel soon.
Ken - Odd how certain events stand out in one's mind. About two weeks ago, it hit me on the exact date and time of my last minute of work before retirement,, four years earlier! Boss actually came and told me to "get the f** out of there". Too bad that he was fired about two months later, but he deserved it, for many reasons besides being an aggressive curser (many complaints with HR).
Joe - Looking forward to your progress.

Everyone have a great day. I'll be heading to the hospital after lunch to participate in the afternoon therapy session so I can continue at home and encourage. First clinical session starts Friday at a clinic about ten miles away.

Still picking lots of tomatoes from the garden, bell peppers kinda petered out early. I didn't plant any jalapenos this season since I have a half dozen jars of pickled ones left from last year. Did an hour or so on the mower yesterday, funny how certain weeds grow without the rain.

Warning - Picture heavy post coming up.

Louis - My pool temperature dropped to 80.5° this week. Sure feels good though.

Today is National New Jersey Day, didn't know that individual states got their own days. If you live in Jersey, then you'll also appreciate that today is also National Scotch Day.

How about a new word? Hobosexual - Someone who enters into a relationship to avoid being homeless!

Hey Willie, my pool has fluctuated between 79 and 94, must because it's only 4500 gallons as you said. My pool is 82 this morning.

No warnings about pictures needed for me, I'd like notifications instead. I can't tell you how much I enjoy see yours and others work on their layouts.

New Jersey is known as the "Garden State" for good reason. Like any state, the big cities are not so beautiful, but if you get away from them New Jersey is absolutely beautiful! Almost as pretty as rural Maryland :) Both have beautiful Atlantic beachs and green scenery as far as the eye can see in many places.

"Hobosexual" I guess I could be called one considering how little I have earned in contrast to what my wife has earned over these last 16 years. If not for her, my assets will be almost half gone and I would be homeless before I reach 70! As it is I should make what I have last until I'm at least 110! Even then I should have plenty left over for my grandsons. Looking again at the definition of Hobosexual it can not apply to me, I married my Angel for love and nothing more.

Keep the pictures and posts coming!

Morning -- 62* heading towards 91* with deep blue cloudless sky!
Last year was 92* and the record 98* in 2002.

Off to Sea World in about 1/2 hour. New adventure for me as well as daughter and Gkids.

CHAD - loved the photos of the family!

Later .....

That's because he doesn't have to. He gets paid regardless.

Watched the Phillies get humiliated by the Braves, last night. Guess Harper ain't the savior there either.

Trouble with baseball, is too rigid, that innovation is stifled. Comments on Wilkerson, were more of the why did the manager so mishandle his pitching staff to put himself into that position, rather than oh Gee! How about that. The Philly play by play crew made me long for Garry Cohn and Kieth Hernandez.

Boris

Hey Boris, I guess you are right about Manny getting paid regardless, but it's hard to me to fathom. I played semi-pro baseball and football and it was never about the money, I would have played for free and paid my own expenses. I played for the love of playing, personal pride and I never played in front of more than a few thousand people! How can these guys play half-assed in front of 50K+? Many times I played in front of less than 50, but I always played hard.

I still feel most of the injuries I suffered playing and I would happily do it all again. I played and coached sports for nearly 50 years. The only championship team I ever played on was my 9-10 basketball team. I coached some championship teams, but coaches only put the players in position to win, players win championships. I may have only played on one championship team, but it was never because of a lack of effort. You can't win them all, but winning is surly more satisfying than losing!

I'll never understand how a player can be at the top of the talent pool without having a love of the game. One thing almost all great players have in common is the love of playing. It's especially true in todays game because the level of talent is higher then ever! Todays players have more talent, they train more than ever, but their sports IQ does not come close to the players of the past.

Harper could have gotten more per year from the Nationals, but they weren't willing to give him a 13 year contract. He is a great player and he plays hard everyday, but I doubt he will be worth 25 million a year 10+ years from now.

I don't care how many superstars you have, it all comes down to pitching and defense. Harper does not pitch and his defense can be inconstant. He may have one of the strongest arms in the game, but it don't help if you miss the cutoff man or throw to the wrong base.

See how little "experts" know? Braydon Hyde has not mismanaged the pitching staff. The Orioles' starters seldom go 6 innings, many never make 5!. Throw in a 16 inning game on a west coast road trip and there were no pitchers left. I've been saying for years baseball needs to expand the rosters.

I'd like to see a few changes to baseball;
1. Expand the rosters to 30 - Greedy billionaire owners don't want that! Capitalisim is the best/only system, but without conscience it is always the same, greed rules!
2. Get rid of the DH - Let the guys who can't play the field be pinch hitters, see expanded rosters.
3. Electronic Strike Zones. - In addition lets use the rule book, pitches at the letters are strikes! Let's see those homerun hitters hit a high fastball with their new "launch angle" swings.
4. A Pitch Clock, - "Batter up, ready or not here it comes" If the pitcher is not ready, it should be an automatic ball, if the batter is not ready, it should be an automatic strike. Play ball for God sake!

Why do so many players have to adjust their batting gloves after every pitch? Even when they don't swing!!! Or pitchers stepping off the mound between pitches, 3-4 hour 9 innings games are ridiculous!

Speaking of the word ridiculous, would commentators please go back to using the word as it is defined?
Ridiculous- adjective: Deserving or inviting derision or mockery; absurd.

Same goes for the word, filthy and others. Somebody give these clowns a dictionary, please! I don't think it's cool. It makes me turn the sound down. Welcome to the "age of stupidity"! One look at Washington, DC proves my point.
