Well, howdy there internet peeps

It's Troy again

Not sure what today brings. Need to do some writing to fulfill the "stretch" goals of the kickstarter I'm running. Seems I promised to write up author notes and a short story of about 4 chapters if enough backers pledged.

The kickstarter ends tomorrow at 5p Eastern, so I better get my butt in gear.

Hobby-wise, not sure if it's a MRR or Toy Soldier day. I really need to clear those toy soldiers from the desk. But I know if I do so, that I'll end up opening the next box of toy soldiers. Because I don't have enough for a full army yet.

Wife said we're going out for pizza tonight. I saluted, and said Yes, Ma'am! She must be getting very tired of her overly peppered potato soup.

I should make a run to Costco. We're about out of a few things. But with the wife on her Whole-30 diet kick, she's not consuming much booze. That's our primary reason for Costco in the winter. In the summer, meat for the grill takes over top spot.

Sciatica update: still hanging around. Fortunately, I've learned what to do. Stretches including Nerve Flossing, the inversion table, Walking on the machine to nowhere (while watching model railroad layout vids).

I'm down to one Advil in the AM and perhaps one or two more through the day. I'm using the biofreeze gel on my leg to numb the pain. It's decreasing every week. That's the problem with Sciatica pain, there is no easy fix. It takes a while to subside.

good morning everyone

2 days ago i got a huge box from walthers. my 250$ mysterybox arrived. yesterday i had the chance to unbox and film everything. and here we have the video:

was it worth? well i will tell you tomorrow :D

Thanks for the video. Looks like quite an assortment of stuff you received.

I wish they would make those a little more era specific..

Probably a pretty good deal though.

Morning all,

29° and partly cloudy, going for a high of 52° later. Not much going on here yet.

AemJaY1: Liked the video and thank you for sharing. Been a while since I bought anything train related. Like Mike (migalyto) said it would be nice to have the box be more era specific, but looks to be a good deal if you're more modern in time era.

$486 plus tax for a case of code 83 atlas flex track. No shipping fee. The best I’ve found so far.

Case of 100? Been about 8 years since I bought any, but IIRC it was about $3.50 a stick when I last purchased it. I think I still have 5 or so full pieces and a ton of shorter ones. I gotta get back downstairs...

Good morning viewers. It's 34f degrees in So. Central Wisconsin. Feels like 24 and the high for the day will be in the 40's. 3 miles walked this morning outside in 52 minutes.

I finally did it! I ordered a Ford Maverick Lariat to be delivered Friday. Dad a GM only guy is spinning in his grave.

Flo, another almost frozen diet Dr Pepper please. I will order a grilled ham and cheese on sourdough. Thank you but no, no fries!

Eggs in my part of Wisconsin dropped from $6.99 per dozen on Sunday to a great $6.49 per dozen on Tuesday!

At 9:30 this morning I will be at a local build session. Today we are only 4 but will be adding scenic forms using resin paper and plaster cloth. Some fascia painting and a few manual blue point switch controls going in. Also the steps to the upper decks platform will be lengthened. All wiring is in place for the mainline including the switch machines on switches. The manual blue points are for industry spurs. Except for the central penisula which will be a twisted nolix between levels the mainline is in. 9:30 to 2:30, chili is being served for lunch. I think building that central penisula will be discussed today. 850’ of mainline not including the twisted nolix! This will be a fun one to operate and yes, I am working on a papermill for it! At 4 miles this is the second closest layout from my own. There are 4 layouts being built within a 10 mile radius of the house. There are 2 layouts within 15 miles of me I have operated on that were in the Magazines, both RMC and MRR in the last 2 years. There is one more that should be! I am very fortunate that just in the local area there are 7 operating layouts I have been invited to and are on the calendar before Summer. There are a few more in the area where trains are just run but on very nice layouts.

If you like operations Wisconsin is a great place for a model railroader. Saturday I will be operating 90 minutes away in Reedsburg and Monday 2.25 hours away in Waupaca. I love it...

Enjoy the day

Interesting mix of stuff received. Have fun with them

than you all for the comments about the video.

iam pretty happy with the box. but i did send a feedback to walthers, because when i did the research about the prizes of the products, i found out that about 80% of the articles where on sale or still are, and then you "only" get around 460$ of value, still its way more than 250$ but still not what they told me. so lets see if they will answer my feedback.

about the era specification, this would be cool. or also maybe a location specific, like canada or i dont know east usa or something. but overall iam happy and will definitly use some things, but also will sell some.

cheers
jay

From what I've seen regarding random goody boxes, it's almost always stuff the company couldn't sell.
As for the "value" of the box, it is always shown as the full retail amount before any discounts are taken.
i know and i also did know that when i ordered it, still i just want walthers to give my onest feedback. iam fine with everything i got. will sell some will keep some totally fine. just to be clear here :) BUT it still feels a bit "cheap" from them but as you say we all know what they are doing with those boxes.

i will stick to the rapido christmas engine mystery boxes :)

Mystery Boxes are great for the company, and for clients who appreciate surprises.

A game company I collect armies from uses the mystery boxes to move old stuff they have in the warehouse. Since they have multiple game systems, they put in items from other games that are not moving as well as the top sellers.

So far, I've resisted purchasing those. They're fun to open, but the other stuff just sits there until I get the energy to sell it.

Speaking of, I need to sell a few armies to buy more train stuff.

i normaly do Disc Golf Disc Unboxings. i made i dont know how many, from different manufacturers. but since last year i only stick to the one from the manufacturer i throw discs from. i love to unbox and see whats inside and dont know whats in it. thats why i did also the walthers one. or the rapido one, at the rapido you at least know you get a dcc engine with sound. at walthers it could be everything. as i sayd before, iam fine with the box overall. :)

and i will also sell some stuff, to buy other train stuff haha :D

Good Morning All. Cloudy and 51°. No rain here yet, but there is scattered light rain SW moving in my direction. Nothing is real close yet, but unless things change much, it's going to be nowhere near the 2.5" originally predicted. Springlike weather in the forecast for the next 10 days.

Note those 70's in there.

Once again, mostly indoor stuff yesterday since I am still supposed to avoid direct sunlight while undergoing the facial treatment. I wore a wide-brimmed hat yesterday to get out into the nice weather. Face is peeling in a couple of spots.

Weather will dictate today's agenda. I hauled two weeks worth of firewood over to the stacks yesterday, but I just dumped it and haven't stacked it yet. Might stack today or might haul some more to just get it out of the yard.

The reliable train shed waited for me yesterday, as it always does. I made more progress on painting the walls of the Live Wire Manufacturing kit. Three are now completed.

Fourth one maybe today. I did do another 4 ground throws on that project.
Meanwhile here are a few random shots from the TNMRC layout. These are all from their very extensive downtown area.

Visible are just about every kit available from DPM, Smalltown USA, Walther's and others. More to come after I sort a bit more.

Louis - Is there anything that you can't use the air-fryer for?? I use mine for the hot dogs as well.
Mike - I have to agree with you regarding the days getting longer. It's daylight here until 6:15 CST right now.
Hughie - Congratulations on paying the car off. I have been able to pay cash since the early '00's after the kids all moved out. Great not having that burden every month.
Troy - The trick to making the overly-peppered potato soup edible, is to make another batch without the pepper and then combine them.

Cloudy has turned to foggy here, rain still a distance away; doesn't seem to be moving right now. Those are the conditions that can go either way.
Everyone have a great Wednesday.

Mystery Boxes: It's a roll of the dice! I toyed with the idea of getting one from Rapido and one from Walthers this year, but decided not to. I have enough stuff I really cannot use. Although the Cold storage building and the bulkhead flats are useful on almost any layout.
because of that cold storage building, iam thinking of getting 2 of those new reefers from rapiod? with sound :P ahahahaha

I suggested that, but the recipe she likes uses creamed cheese to thicken it up and give it a creamy smooth texture. And - it does not freeze well. We can't eat that much potato soup if we doubled the batch.

Yep100 pieces.

Good morning, all! It is foggy here. Sea fog, so it doesn't burn off with sunshine. There is a possibility for rain, but tomorrow is the rain day with a 90% chance. Yesterday's dermatologist visit rendered 4 spots froze and 1 biopsy.

Jay - great video. I certainly looks as though you got your monies worth.
Willie / Louis - I need to try air fryer hot dogs.

Mystery box - I'm not sure I would buy one. At this point in time, I have locos that I don't run, a variety of rolling stock in a box under the layout and not an open space for another building. Using Jay's unboxing as an example, and assuming it was N scale, I would have kept the vehicles and the industrial detail packet. All the rest would be nice stuff, but not really usable. The only planned purchases are, a Guilford locomotive, as I have Boston and Maine's and Pan Am's, so I'd like to add a Guilford, laser cut kits that can replace current plastic structure.
