Good afternoon to all.............
I read on another forum ( one that Ken Patterson has connections to ) and there was a discussion going on about using foam board as a base for your layout. As most know, Ken Pattersons layout caught on fire due to a short circuit. I guess Ken finally got his 3 minutes of fame although probably not for the reason he would have liked. I have never been a fan of Kens construction methods or wiring practices. What was not visible on the finished layout was done, in my opinion, in a sloppy manner. And of course he was an idiot for leaving trains running in his basement while he went upstairs to make a cup of what ever he drinks and then smelling smoke.
The point being discussed was a lot of folks have decided to quite using the foam board due to it being flammable. Ken even said he was NOT going back on his layout using fb as a base. For me a minimal use of fb for scenery might be ok but not as a base. And of course some folks say well plywood burns too and it does but I don't think it will grow into a large fire nearly as quick as fb and should resist bursting into flame much more than fb will.
Each to their own here but this does deserve some thought. I thought it deserved being mentioned. While we only run 12 to 16 volts with low amps, a short on the rails can get hot enough to melt those plastic ties and the shell of a plastic loco. The use of circuit breakers is very important and good wiring practices are paramount.
None of us want to read about someone loosing their layout and or home due to a fire caused by the very thing we love, a model train layout.
It is a very nice day here. I need to replace the blades on my mower and some tree limbs need cutting but I'll probably put that off for work in the train room. I'm on a mission to get all turnouts in place and operational on the upper level portion of my layout ASAP.
I cooked up some Italian Lintel soup last night using a recipe from Carrabba's Italian restaurant. I've made this before and it is GREAT.
I also made a squash casserole using 3 cans of Margaret Holms canned squash with vidalia onions and stove top stuffing for chicken. Cook the stuffing per directions, add shredded cheese and mix everything well, then in the oven, with a lid, for 45 minutes. This is quick and easy and GOOD.
I stay logged into e-bay and have an icon that comes up on my browser. I just click the icon and it takes me directly to "My E-bay". No signing in or other crap. This also makes it very easy to browse and spend money.

Oh well, so much for my opinions, shopping habits and cooking practices.
Have a great afternoon......John
