You big meanie, I was just gonna whine on January's post!
Anyway, 20 here heading for single digits. Then Monday it's supposed to start warming up. Finished up a couple of tabletop miniatures for a game Tuesday. LadyC is making ham and beans for me for tomorrow night. YUM
Been a busy day in the basement. I sanded out the joints on the backdrop masonite, painted the backdrops, also painted the wall where I had moved the light switches. Built a Roundhouse covered hopper kit, custom decorated Western Maryland Historical Society commissioned car. I'll weather it tomorrow. Then a thorough picking up of the basement, including the work bench and the puter desk, finally dusting and vacuuming. Drywall dust from seaming the backdrops made a mess!! Whoo,, busy day!
Tomorrow a run to BJ's is in order, other than it's up in the air.
11° currently, should be 5° by daybreak. Brrrrrrrr!
Ventured back up into the loft to see if I could find the lightboards for my E8s. Nope, must've threw them away, which is strange. But, did find that I have 3 more of those SD90s, so I brought one down, took it and the other one apart and cleaned them out. The first one was drawing a lot of amps, so I figured the grease was congealing and needed to go before I burned the motor out. Both are now greased, refueled and waiting to over power my 12 car freight train later tonight.
I spent most of the day slow cooking my throw together hot dog veggie soup. When I finally ate it about 6 pm, I managed to stop at 3 cups. We will have leftovers for the next couple days in this cold weather.
I had a very pleasant package waiting for me in the mailbox. Montanan had an excellent collection of HO vehicles on his layout. I purchased some of those vehicles and they arrived today.
It has become difficult to find late steam era vehicles lately. This gives me a nice variety of vehicles with panel trucks, stationwagons and sedans.
There are 3 Studebakers, 2 Nashes, a Jeep pickup and a Jeep Waggoner, which I have not seen for sale before.
Thanks, Chet for packaging the vehicles so well. We all know how well USPS tosses small packages around.
i believe I have more vehicles than rolling stock now.
Adjusted another guitar neck today. I noticed last week that I thought the action was high on this guitar but I didn't think anything of it. But I picked it up again today after adjusting the other one last night and it was way out.
THis one took about 3/4 of a turn to take the bow out of the neck to bring the strings back down and it's much better now. I think I might give it another 1/4 turn tomorrow after I see how it responds overnight.
This has been an unusually dry winter indoors and is playing havoc with all of my guitar necks. I didn't think it was affecting the Les Pauls, but it's happening to them too just a little slower.
Anotehr hour and a half for me in January still. Need to make the best of it. Daughter had two friends over tonight for a low-key birthday celebration. I came home from a church thing and they were playing some sort of table party game so I sat down and played. Called "Insider". https://oinkgames.com/en/games/analog/insider/
It was pretty fun. The version we had was the Japanese (which also includes English).
My daughter did well at her Regions swim meet last Friday. She got 4th place in the 100 free and 6th place in the 200 free IIRC. Got her best times and PR (personal records) after a not so great season. Only one more meet and that is the State meet in 3 weeks.
Thanks to @bnsf971 providing the link to the E8 lightboard, I was able to determine that it is a common type board that Kato uses. I was able to find one for an EF66 that doesn't have any LEDs installed. I have a ton of them in warm white or yellow. I think this board has a cap on it.
I really enjoy watching the 7idea production videos as the format and the guy's voice reminds me of the old Pentrex stuff. I had the Last of the Giants videos on VHS and used to watch them over and over again.
Good Morning All!
34F @ 87% overcast. Guessers say 50F Thursday.
So, Daffodils are poking through the ground, Rhododendron's have green and new buds. Heck, the very young Plum and Apple along with the Japanese Maple and Lilac's have green stuff too. Do they know it is only February? This normally is the time of -F for a week or two. Ya, not over until the fat lady sings. Dang strange winter for us.
Good morning from So. Central Wisconsin where the temperature is rising! +5f degrees feeling like -7 wind chill. It was +2 and -11 at 6am.
Terry, frozen pipes in Florida! I’d never have believed that possible down there. Best to you on that and a hair dryer should help if the pipes aren’t solidly frozen. Your luck has bound to change…
Stayed home from the OPS session but stupidly went to the grandson’s hockey game at 5pm. I was slightly chilled and ended up the. 2nd half of the game in the bar overlooking the rink to warm up. The 1st time in the 8 years the grandson has been playing that I went in there. I’m not a teetotaler or opposed to booze at all. There is a place for it and it’s not at a youth hockey arena, IMOO and YMMV.
07°F here and light snow flurries expected later. A little train running later today after lunch will keep me occupied this afternoon. That's all that is going on here today until the snow arrives.
