Good morning, all! Awoke to 50 degrees, currently 57, and going for 62 later in the day. I got the outside lights up, though I cut back from previous years. It looks okay and at least the neighbors won't think us scrooges. The kids, g-kids and gg-kids will come this weekend to put up the tree. I and the Conductress just sit back and watch. I do still get to put the angel atop the tree.

Christmas - The grandsons are in their 30's so I'm pretty sure they don't believe in Santa. However, the great grandkids still await jolly old St Nick. I enjoy the season, what with family and friends celebrating. Maybe it's just me, but it seems nearly everyone seems a little friendlier, a little happier during the holiday season.

Not much in the way of trains. I did run a switcher for a short time.

I realized after attaching the photo just how dusty the river was. Need to start a cleaning campaign.

Afternoon all,

A daisy blooming at my daughter's house on December 3rd. Winter in Kansas 👍.

Not much going on yet. We have to get the older granddaughter has an orthodontist appointment in a while. So we'll be making a run shortly.

Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story, Die Hard have already been watched. I thought Love Actually was a crappy movie. Not one I'd rewatch.

I reposted these posts (see below) in my thread Christmas Trees, Trains and More - 2024 . With the original posters' permission of course, thank you gentlemen!

CHRISTMAS has always been a big deal even though both grandkids know Santa is not real even though the granddaughter with Down Syndrome doesn’t totally get it. We celebrate with family and friends but gifting has gotten less.

Decorating I have a service doing the outside lights the last 6 years and 3 different places. That was a 2 year gift originally from the daughter and now my brother gifts that to us. Good thing too because if it’s higher than a step ladder I am now forbidden from using it. Inside when I retired in 2014 Christmas was 33 bins not including the lights I put up outside. Tomorrow I can bring out the main tree and 4 bins. The other 9 bins are mainly dishes and tablecloths. Terry has reduced greatly over the years. The outdoor lights were turned on the day after Thanksgiving

TRAINS, I don’t ever remember a train around any trees in our family. My first train for Christmas at 7 years old was a 4x8 dad built, Lionel

Christmas - We've been cutting back on the Christmas/holiday decorating for a few years now. When I retired, I had the time and desire to do more. Wife on the other hand retired 7 years later and wants to do less. I went along with her wishes in the spirit of harmony.
On the subject of Christmas and trains, Dad had an 8' x 12' Lionel layout in the basement in Brooklyn. At Christmas, he'd bring a loop of spare track, and an engine and a few cars upstairs to put around the tree. After we finally moved to Dallas, he would set up a very large temporary layout (about 400 sq ft) on the living room and dining room floor after we moved all of the furniture out. The Christmas tree was mounted in the midst of all of the track. He would show off by running 7 trains at once using 2 Lionel ZW transformers. He had to run an extension cord to one of them, because our breakers would flip off when they were both on the same circuit.
The inclusion of "More" in the thread title was intended to encompass these types of posts among other things.

I would love to learn about everyone's Christmas celebrations. If you have the time and wish to share your Christmas traditions, please feel free to do so in this thread: Christmas Trees, Trains and More - 2024

Learning about the various traditions of Christmas celebrations is truly captivating, and I find great enjoyment in it!

From modest to massive, all celebrations of Christmas are wondrous to me.

Our rose bushes were blooming here in WNY till a couple of days ago when we finally got cold weather.

Temperature wise, it was not as chilly today, yet I minded it more for some reason. 42° for the high, 22° was the low, and currently 32°. Wednesday night into Thursday they are calling for "Mixed precipitation".

I out out the recycles for the alternate week collection tonight, using the 44 gallon can. Normally the 32 gallon is more than enough. We finished the last of the turkey and stuffing today also.

Going down to patch paint a per diem box car shortly. masked the patch area earlier, and relocated the car weight. This is a 30 year old Bev Bel Athearn Car that fits into my era and theme.

Been sunny during the day since some point last week. Like Saturday or so. But into the 20s at night, high 30s or low 40s during the day.

The geothermal guys finally showed up today after I texted the boss guy last night and said I wouldn't beable to pay them anything if they didn't get it done since once we get occupancy and convert our loan to the long term I wouldn't have the loan money any longer. They dug the vertical shafts last February and have been promising to show up for the horizontal connection into the house since. Anyway they were there and had rented an excavator since their's is on the fritz. The main team leader and another guy were running it with two young guys doing any shovel work in the trench. They also had to put 90 degree bends in the pipes that go into the house as well as put special fittings and valves on the ends. They're supposed to be done this week.

Plumbers also showed up. They show up every once in a while -- always supposedly to finish up but they aways just do a 1/2 day or day or something and then get called away. Same thing today. They were there and finished the water heaters and stuff and I went to tell them how to pipe the water filter system and they made notes what parts they needed to go fetch when they got a call from the boss man to go replace a hot water heater at some apartment complex. They didn't come back today. No idea when they will return. Very frustrating. Been trying to get them to finish since the late SPring when they wanted to come do all the finish plumbing before the summer busy season...

They did come one or two days but then not again until a day in the summer and then a few days in September. And a couple hours last week and a couple hours today. There is not much left. Just the water hookup into the house through the filters, one utility sink, and testing everything and siliconing all the shower panels and stuff after being tested.

Anyway, I have to go up and do wood handrails on the cable rail posts before I can add the cable itself (or else the tension from the cables on the posts without top support could cause them to deflect. I was supposed to get this all done last week when I took some time offf work before Thanksgiving but ended up having to do a bunch of water filter and other stuff in the utility room to prepare for the plumbers and some other things like that. I did get the wood trim thingy down along the edge where the poles go and all the poles installed, and some custom brackets to hold the wood rails, and got the wood bought etc last week. Last night I installed one segment of wood as a trial after O got back from our weekly band practice trip to Orem with the daughter. I have to hand craft my own system to cnonect the rails to the posts since the posts are made to connect to the aluminum handrails from their system, though they say you can also use your own wood rails, but you're on your own to make it work...

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those who aren't day-drunk on the telly.

It's Troy again...

The Titanic build is facing it's first setback. Much like the SecDef nomination. Although I hope to recover better than that.

One of the hull sections is designed to just barely fit on the plate horizontally. But I want to print it vertical to reduce the supports I'll need. Now it's too tall for the printer - by a couple of cm.

OK, I can cut the piece in the software and turn it into two print jobs. Did that and got 95% done with job one. Then I woke to this...

Fortunately the part lying down on the job is the fan shroud. It's got magnet to hold it in place. Looks like the tree supports sticking up in the back right side of the hull came loose and knocked it off. the printer was smart enough to pause. I treated this as a failed print, and resliced and reloaded to see if it's savable.

If this piece defeats me, I may have to scale everything down 5% to get it to fit on the plate, and begin a new attempt. That means reprinting the three sections I have done. I'd prefer to finish as is, but we'll see. If this fails again, I'll make the re-size and begin with section 1

So I'm watching the printer now. Like a hawk.
