Afternoon All,

Was at the school today so nothing MRR related except ordering some goose neck lamps for the build. I figure I will need 7 for it. I think tomorrow after the chores get done I will extend the parking lot on the right side giving the trucks more room to get turned around.

Chet- Thank you. I missed your reply the other day. I got my trailers from Mini Metals. Was the rail shot photo taken today in Montana?

Willie- Thank you. Another nice set of loads and Diner.

Sherrel- Thank you and be safe in your travels.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Thursday morning here in King George County, VA. Worked on the 2014 F-150 truck last night to install some Ride On dynamic balancing fluid in the tires. This stuff is pretty neat. Ya just put it in your tires and it balances them out to a perfect ride. It also provides a puncture sealant.
It all started a couple months ago when I got new tires put on my truck. I could feel the vibration right away after the tires were installed and took the truck back for them to look at again. The mechanic took a ride by himself and said the vibration couldn't be the tires and was probably something else. I rode with him and could feel it and could see the steering wheel vibrating but he said it wasn't the tires.
I ordered some Ride On on line and installed it. It smoothed that out to better than it has ever been. So much for the vibration being something else.

Good morning. It's overcast and 59.
Looking ahead to the weather for this coming weekend, I will probably be taking our travel trailer to work, so I can switch the air conditioners indoors.

Good Morning All. 62° and clear sunny skies. Did not get as warm as predicted yesterday, forecast was 92°, only made 87°, about the same for today. I am watering the garden right now during the only wind-free part of the day. The yard is backing off since it's been a week since the last rain. Just a bit of mowing today on the west side to complete the rotation. May is traditionally our wettest month, averaging 8"+ most years.
Thanks for the comments regarding yesterday's pictures, Chet, Greg, Sherrel, Curt, and all others.
Out in the train shed, I completed all of the detail work on the pool hall/saloon. Roof details, electric meter, scuppers and downspouts, signs and figures.

The structure itself is a DPM kit called "Goodfellows Hall". It is very reminiscent of pool halls in this area from the 50's through the 80's. Some of the figures are Preiser and some are Woodland Scenics. Barber shop to the right is Walther's "Vic's Barber Shop" with a few added details from me.
I have started on some other structures that will be posted as progress continues.
I mentioned the other day that I gave "Super Trees" a shot, and had time to make one tree. It came out pretty decently, at least for me. It actually has a longer trunk that is sunk into that piece of Styrofoam. After soldering, tree making is my least favorite part of the hobby, but this product may help alleviate that a little.

No more pictures until Monday, maybe. I'm leaving tomorrow morning for a three day trip to San Antonio to visit my son and his wife, visit my wife's brother and his wife and to check out the four train layouts at the Texas Transportation Museum. There's an extensive collection of autos, tractors, horse carriages, fire trucks and full sized rail cars there as well.

Ken (D&J) - The countdown continues. My countdown was cut short when they just told me to "get out of here" two and a half days early. I barely had time to delete my files (projects that I worked on that weren't assigned) on my hard drive! I had already cleaned out the office though. OK though, as I still got full pay and two week severance.
Chet - You posted another picture yesterday that reinforces the reason that I don't live north. That Milwaukee engine must have really hit a snowbank.
Sherrel - Continue to have a safe journey. I'll be looking for you in San Antonio over the next three days. My wife can recommend many fine places there for Mexican food and baked goods. Visit that transportation museum if you need a rest break, it's really good, although hours are limited on Friday's. Their HO layout is 100' in length. Over an acre of G scale outside.

Just a short trek to the grocery store today, between the garden and vacation, I just need beer and red meat.
Everybody have a great day.

Willie

Good morning .47 degrees to start off the day with an expected high in the 70's again. My rock got wet last evening with some nice evening thunder showers, but it has dried off.

Curt - I thought those trailers were from Mini Metals, but wasn't sure. I had looked at them when they first came out, but there were none of them that would have worked for the area I am modeling. I did run across some trailers that were a perfect fit though. One town on my layout is Gallatin Gateway, which happens to be the closest town to where I live. Used the trailers for a small local trucking company.

So far as where yesterdays rail shot was taken, I have no idea. I am guessing that it could be on Minnesota possibly. With the crossing it is sitting at, I couldn't locate the area.

Ken D&J - We use something similar to balance the tires on out over the road trucks called Tire Life. Works perfectly. There nothing more annoying than having a tire out of balance.

Willie - The pool hall looks really nice. A good addition to any town. The trees came out looking fantastic. Nicely done.

Johnny
- The fire truck and building should be in the mail today. Finally got to see the train room for the first time an quite a few days picking it out of the layout.

The wife will be off to Helena for another ladies tournament this weekend so it will be me and the dogs. I will pass going to the club this weekend and stay home to watch the NASCAR race Saturday night. Maybe I'll have some time to visit the layout as they are talking about showers on Saturday so I'll get out of mowing.

Here's a rail photo for today.

Good morning ....

Ken D&J ... I am not familiar with the balancing fluid. I'll keep it in mind if I have a problem with tire balancing.

Willie .... The pool hall looks great .... Same with the tree..

Chet... Your trucks look great. .... Interesting rail photo of the day. The unrusted part of the rail is a narrow band along the center of the top. Obviously an electrified line. ........ The angle makes me wonder if the photographer was a bit tipsy. LOL

Afternoon fellers. I figured it was time to check in again. Been sorting cars on the layout. I have to accept the fact to run the operations I want my 100T hoppers have to go. So now I'm digging up every serviceable 70T hopper I have that hasn't been destroyed by moving. Added two this morning that I was able to salvage. Unfortunately for me they have plastic wheels. For now they will do and I'll just upgrade wheelsets as time permits. My problem Athearn is going back into the box until I have ample time to work on it when I'm not working on anything. Still haven't figured out how I'm going to set my structures in place. And of course I have a turnout that has a dead spot in it that will need attention. I've been putting it off but it's starting to really bug me. I'll catch up later or at least try to.

Nice pool hall, plenty of pool tables! It's amazing how nice having details in the windows looks, brings the place to life and makes a big difference.

I see a blank wall though, maybe you can add a few of those posters I've put in the photo gallery to it.

The angle makes me wonder if the photographer was a bit tipsy. LOL

LOL, that's supposed to add "tension" or make it look "dynamic". Remember the old Batman Movies and all the crazy angles they had?

I'll give the photographer credit, he did it the right way. If you're going to shoot on an angle, make it OBVIOUS that you meant to do it. If you have just a small angle to the photo, it looks like you were too lazy to use a tripod, or shot in a big hurry. But if you put a big angle in the image, then it shoots "I meant to do that!" and it looks OK, if that's the look you're after.

Afternoon All,

Did a bunch of chores then put down N scale roadbed strips and laid thin styrene on top with that. I have weight on it while the glue dries so I will paint it tomorrow. I think tomorrow I will start cutting out the blanks for the windows and doors (use them to draw out windows and doors on the siding). Still don't know about this weekend with the grandkids.

VA Ken- I have never heard of the tire stuff either.

Willie- Nice looking buildings and tree. Have a fun and safe trip.

Chet- Nice scene. I have that AMB building and use it in my coal/oil dealership.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Ride on.jpg

This is the motorcycle version. There is Truck & SUV, Auto, ATV and many other applications. Each application has its own blend.
Human Resources called me in today and told me I need to burn off 9 hours of leave because they won't pay me for it. So I took off and hour early today and will take tomorrow off too.
I'll go back in on Monday to meet with the government lead and do a final download of ideas and documents I might still have on my computer. From there, turn in my badge and get escorted to the door. Tuesday, I got to my parent company HQ to turn in all my other stuff and be escorted to the door. They said I could keep the cyanide capsules. After that, I'm free to settle into my retirement years.

Maybe the photographer didn't want to kneel on the ballast. Would probably be uncomfortable.
Or maybe the camera is on the front of a tilt train and it's banking for the curve. Notable too, is the other set of rails of the double track. All you can see is one rail, so there must be a reverse curve in the opposite direction and well superelevated.

We have both electric and diesel passenger tilt trains in service on the Main north line from Brisbane to Cairns. Electric to Rockhampton and diesel for the longer trip. Often wondered how they managed to keep the pantographs on the wires when tilting the power cars and coaches, but a combination of tilt and super, I guess manages it.

Ken, I think it's great they let you keep the cyanide capsules. Think of the disease that could spread if people shared that stuff, or they re-issued it to your replacement.

That's so they could all raid your cubicle and get the good stuff!
