Good Morning All. Whew! 75° and 88% humidity with sporadic rain. Muggy to say the least. Had to run the A/C yesterday afternoon. The misty conditions yesterday morning quickly gave way to drier hotter weather, so I got the last of the yard mowed on this cycle. A day and a half of light rain is in the forecast, so I will resume the mowing cycle Sunday after things dry out a bit. This year is going to be mowed SE, then NE, NW, and finally the SW parts of the estate in rotation. Cleared out some more dead tree remnants but I did not visit the garden. Noted while mowing that it appears that the local snake population is waking up and moving out to the open. Watch out baby bunnies, birds and rodents! They (snakes) haven't eaten in a couple of months while in semi-hibernation. Forgoing the weekly grocery/beer trek this week, as I just don't need anything important. The beer cellar always has an 8-10 week supply in it, so there is no pressing need to go. Wife is leaving today for a four-day excursion to watch the grandsons while my daughter and SIL go out of town for a wedding.
Thanks for the many comments on the layout photos,
Chet,
Johnny,
Curt,
Garry,
Joe, and any others that I may have missed. Here's today's shots.
First up are a couple of shots of Magees Tire Service. This is a "simple" Bar Mills laser-cut kit. Magee's is located on the outskirts of Charlottesville, just north of the bear scene posted the other day. In the second photo on the other side of the tracks is Federal Cold Storage that was in the bear scene picture. Please ignore the blurry backgrounds, I am using a new camera (to me), and I haven't learned all of the ropes yet.
Next up is some industries. First is a close up of Federal Cold Storage in Charlottesville. As I posted the other day, I used Walther's "Brook Hill Farm Dairy" for this structure. The boxcar is in the way, but this structure has a lighted interior and loading dock. As I have posted before, I have many industries that are located but not yet "panted" with accompanying scenery materials.
Lastly, back to the town of Vernon that I have been posting the "downtown" pictures of; on the outskirts of town, across the street from Murphy's Bar and two doors down from the auto body shop, is American Plastics, manufacturer of custom plastic extrusions and injection molded products. This is the complete Pikestuff kit of "Milton A Corporation" with some added details, piping, dumpster, some unseen outdoor storage tanks, crates and loading dock. There's an indoor unloading track in the back for rail service.
Out in the train shed yesterday, I resumed my scenery project in that lowly corner that I posted last week. I now have both sides of the dry creek done and have moved across the tracks to that small area. It's bounded by the main line, a track bumper on a switching lead, a road and the back fence of an auto repair shop. It will be more "woodsy" to provide cover for the homeless/hobo camp. Over on the workbench, I resumed painting figures. I need to wind that up so I can make more trees.
Chet - Like you, the only reason that I keep getting MR is for the layout pictures, and occasional kitbash articles. That and it's the only model RR related thing that my wife ever gives me!
Johnny - We have a guy that sells at all of the local train shows called "The Truck Man". He sells nothing but vehicles, mainly trucks, for reasonable prices. $5 -$10 range like you have seen. I usually go through his "close out" box and get some cheapo's (usually 1:100 scale) for $2, that I use in the backgrounds.
Curt - Interesting thing about the airbag replacement - my wife's car is an Accura RDX and they didn't have the right airbag for it, so they provided us with a free comparable SUV rental for seven weeks! Nice looking pictures there also.
Sherrel - So that was a premonition when Foxie got into my pond while here! Continued best wishes for safe travel.
Everybody have a great day.
