UPDATE
I planted the Antique Shop. I had another building there but thought the Antique Shop was a better fit.

Hughie I just watched a Youtube video on the worst cities in the USA to live in and I think I seen that last structure in one of the neighborhoods.

If you haven't watched the Netflix series, "The Blue Zones", you should. It explores the reasons that 5 areas of the world (Blue Zones) have the highest number of centenarians. It's an eye opener.

This is one of the reasons I have switched to Okinawan sweet potatoes. They can be difficult to find and a little pricey, but they're rich in anthocyanins, giving it a deep purple color, and anti-inflammatory compounds. If I could find seeds I would grow them.

"We buy junk, and sell Antiques".
Like Sanford and Son. That was their business model.

Thanks for the rabbit trail... wife is on a health kick, so I mentioned it and now I'm watching it. Up to Sardinia...

Good morning from So Central Wisconsin. It rained overnight but since I need to move the rain gauge to where I can see it I have no idea how much was received. I didn’t look coming in after the walk this morning. The official NWS rain totals for Verona are located about 3 miles southwest of us and that area has a different climate from where we currently live. We are at 47f degrees now heading to a very damp feeling 60.

I was reading about the passing of the Pope who was an interesting but polarizing to some man. All the so-called favorites to be voted the next Pope are old men. The Church needs someone in their 50’s or 60’s. Hope that is not considered talking religion. Now to find the movie Conclave streaming online.

I was told at brunch yesterday I do need a sport jacket for the California wedding. I asked for the colors the girls want me in. I will go myself. I’m not going through another buying experience with those 2 again. Either today to get it over with or the week before we leave just to cause some excitement.

I watched parts of all 3 NHL playoff games yesterday. Sat through only 2 intermissions just cutting the wires for the tree armatures. Watched parts of Toronto/Ottawa where the refs had too much influence, the Devils/hurricane game where the Devils are definitely outclassed because of injuries and the Vegas/Wild game that I did watch most of and IMO the best game of the day

I am not sure about any train room activity today. Except for 1 car left to touch up I have everything packaged and labeled for the USPS. I have one client who I use his models to fill in when I want something to do or have an opening. Been doing it this way for 3 years now and it’s been good for both of us. He has his own shelf for incoming and outgoing stuff. His girlfriend called me Saturday and then texted me information I needed. Wants a layout plan for a 22’ x 40’ section of her garage. A surprise for him. Her dad is a retired carpenter and can handle the frame work without the B/f knowing. This will be fun.

Enjoy your day

I don't know what causes the knee to go bad in the first place. Anyone here know?

I'd say not walking. Many Americans lead very sedate life. American diet is also probably the worst of all countries. When a mother drives her kids to McDumpsters every day, that's not going to help the kids develop right. When growing up in Poland, i have never been to a restaurant, all food i consumed was either cooked at home or in this post school house where many kids would hang out while waiting for a parent to grab them from work. Schools have no exercise programs like gymnastics or calisthenics, it's mostly baseball or basketball. Sorry to all baseball fans, but that "sport" isn't exactly great for body development, you can tell by what many baseball players look like. Soccer is thankfully becoming popular and it's far more beneficial to staying in shape. Many guys become lazy after they get married and let them selves go. I still exercise regularly, for me it's a lifestyle. I eat meat, veggies, potatoes, drink lots of milk and not the waterred down crap, i drink whole milk. It's not too late to start exercising, simple walking a mile every day will do wonders. Instead of going to drive through, i park my car to walk to bank or coffee shop.

Partying hard and other assorted stupid stuff. In my case, I actually fell 18" (yes inches) off the front stoop onto the sidewalk. Right leg on concrete, left on the lawn during an ice storm in spring of 1986. Chipped the back of the kneecap, and waited 6 months until I finally went to see the Dr.

Left side from overuse compensating for the bad right side.

Good Morning All. Clear and 51°, not as chilly as predicted, but a bit below our average for this day. Expecting a beautiful day today with high around 80°, very light winds and no rain until Wednesday. Then 5 days of scattered thunderstorms according to the current, usually unreliable NWS forecast; although they nailed Saturday's prediction.

Yesterday's annual Easter egg hunt and family get-together went well. All 45 folks showed up and there was much fine food. The Easter eggs which were scattered about earlier got rained on about 10:30, but it then cleared off completely and we had a beautiful sunny day after that.

I hope that it is dry enough to mow this afternoon, as things look really ragged since I mowed less than a week ago.

I did not go out to the train shed yesterday, but a recap from Saturday shows that I built an older Roundhouse kit.

I got this at a train show in 2013; it appears to be from an estate sale. Original sticker on the box shows a price of $8.95.
1745244284393.jpeg

I paid a lot less.

Typical Roundhouse kit. I did not use the plastic wheels or horn-hook couplers, but substituted Kadee metal and #148's on this model.
1745244473660.jpeg

I also had to add slightly over 1 oz of weight to meet NMRA recommended practices.

I'll eventually be doing some weathering on this car since it is really a bright color. I have another that I bought at the same time that I assembled a few years ago and I will do them both at the same time.

Swal - In the 70's in many parts of Texas, DWI's were easily reduced to drunk in public if it happened in smaller towns. Why? In a DWI case, the fine money went to the state, whereas a DIP fine went to the local municipality. Yes, my lawyer explained that to me! It's probably still the case today.

Sweet Potatoes grow from slips from existing sweet potatoes, not from seeds. Here is a link to growing them. Sweet Potatoes from slips.
Welcome home Mike. Always great to sleep in one's own bed.

RIP Pope Francis.
Today is Queen Elizabeth's birthday, I don't know how old she might have been, but older than me.
Everyone have a great Monday.

Good mornin' crew! It's 34 and clear, winds W @ 5 in Cheyenne this AM. Looking for a high of 62 and a low tonight of 32. No precipitation last 24 hrs but 40% chance of showers later today.

Good weekend. Spent a couple hours Saturday afternoon at the Sherman Hill Model Railroad club. They maintain big layout in a store front in the Frontier Mall here in Cheyenne. A bunch of good folks and talented model railroaders. Stayed up late watching Saturday night Noir Alley movie. Sunday was quiet; slept in - missed Sunday AM muster. Watched replay of F1 qualifying and race. Dinner with D#2 & SIL and a couple hours at the workbench.

No doctors this week, but need to go to DMV to get WY state ID. Don't drive any more so don't need a DL. Planning on getting some more done in the train shed and on the workbench this week. Waiting for order of flex track and turnouts to arrive.

Knees (and hips): Mine are mostly OK, but NJ(ret) needs both right knee and hip replacement. Probably looking at doing it sometime later in the year. Lots of rehab involved in either one. Fifty years of nursing takes its toll...

Time to refill the coffee mug and rustle up some breakfast. Y'all have a good week and take care.

Morning all,

Hope everyone had a blessed Zombie Jesus day yesterday. Had all the kids here and it was nice to have them here. We got about 2: of rain over the weekend. We sorely needed it. Predicting more starting again tomorrow night with severe storms possible. Nothing like giving a new class 4 roof a tryout!.

Last day off this week and got awakened by a text from my B-I-L about the pope. May he rest in peace.

Vacation sucked and currently have a lot of banging overhead as the roofers are here working on the roof replacement.

Gotta call the ortho on the knee.

Good morning all!

A very cloudy, windy Monday. Temperatures are around 47F but it feels like 30F with the strong winds. It is supposed to reach the mid 60s.

Never did get to mow yesterday. Shortly after posting that mowing was on the agenda, it started raining and never really stopped. Don’t know how much fell, but it was a bunch. Did get all the laundry done, cars gassed up, grocery store run, and freed the dog from boarding jail.

Have a safe day everyone!

So a few days ago I was cleaning out the truck of my 2013 Kia Rio. This was my wife's car before she passed on. I did not use the car that much and didn't know it had no spare tire. It had a small compressor. That's it. I called some local junk yards looking for a tire and rim but no luck. I bought a brand new full 17 X 15 mounted tire on Ebay for $130.00. Not a bad price at all.
