Morning from City Hall,

Busy again this morning, but in a good way. Have 2 new hires starting Monday, so I had to get them setup in the system. Apparently we've hired our new tech. Working on the same degree I have from the same school. Although in 24 years since my graduation, the program moved from the Liberal Arts college to the School of Engineering. Same math and science requirements, same courses required, just no longer a Liberal Arts degree.

Eye exam went ok. While I have a small change in 1 eye, the dr. felt I could keep what I have for another year and do well. One thing I don't think I'd order again is the Transitions lenses. What I hate about sunglasses (having to take them off when coming in from outside) applies to these as well. While they get dark quick, they don't lighten as fast. I have to take them off when I come in from outside or I can't see. Unlike sunglasses, I do have to put these on again, so I tend not to misplace them as often...

We had rain and storms overnight, nothing severe in my area, but enough that I can't do some of the work outdoors I intended to do this afternoon. I have a water line to the sprinkler system that is leaking and wanted to fix it myself, but not looking forward to digging in mud. The clay soil sticks to everything.

Good morning Crew. So. Central Wisconsin weather is nuts. End of April and we seemed to have missed all the “seasonal” weather days. We have either been over or under the normal temperatures but only 1 day officially has been seasonal. Gloomy looking out there right now.

The grass in the yard is growing. Anything along a solid landscape surface is really tall at about 6” to 8” but the normal yard is green but not at any length. The SIL is handling the yard but I may get out there today, they are heading to Minneapolis today for the grandson’s hockey tournament. The little things like this in the yard do bother me.

Trains. I spent some time in there. Worked on 3 cars getting weathered. Started the fade process on a fourth car. Started playing again with the grain complex working making on the walls joining the 2 head houses making up the main building.

I hope to finish covering the windows and re-prime the building today, or not.

I have decided to finish the process of installing the grain complex and finishing the ground cover in the too small an area but at least I am enjoying the process again.

A quick trip to the grocery store and picking Terry up at the airport is the plan for today. We will have the 10 year granddaughter for the weekend. She didn’t really want to go to her brother’s hockey tournament in Minneapolis. Lots of pool time with me, she and grandma will be baking ginger cookies if there is ginger available at the grocery store. Dinner tonight will be Walleye for Terry, shrimp for me and the granddaughter will have the beloved chicken strips and fries. It is Friday in Wisconsin after all.

Terry, again there are no words to make you feel better losing Marie from me. May you find peace.

Willie, we implemented the “pee” test at a company right after we hired a new “Compliance Officer”. She put the test in place she said it was to protect our clients. Over 1/2 the 1st group had THC in their systems. When management decided not to terminate those folks the “officer” quit.

patrick, you have to train 2 folks you didn’t know got hired? Is that a normal occurrence? Thanks for the water line reminder. I should test ours out. I noticed while at HD last week many of the landscape items were in short supply except mulch. That was stacked nice and neatly in 2 huge rows where parking slots used to be.

Have a great day
TomO

Good Morning All. Cloudy and 69°, should reach 83° later on. Didn't make it above 79° yesterday and there was a very brief unexpected thundershower last night that lasted all of ten minutes. Got everything wet but wasn't enough to register in the rain gauge. Conditions this morning resemble a very heavy dew.

Grocery trek yesterday was successful and uneventful. Prices are still going higher on meats and fresh produce. I rarely pay attention to canned goods so I don't know how much they have gone up. Gasoline was up to $3.85/gal, after bottoming out at $3.45/gal just three weeks ago.
The stress test yesterday bothers me though. I completed the six minutes on the treadmill at a faster pace than I wanted and was a bit stressed. I am bothered though by the staff interaction. I did not see the cardiologist, but his staff insisted that I change my Wednesday follow-up to Monday; and several prescriptions were called in to the pharmacy. All without any explanation. In addition, a blood draw that I was going to do Monday, has to be done today so they have the results on Monday. Of course, my insurance company is denying one of the prescriptions and they are probably right in doing so.

Thanks for the likes and comments regarding yesterdays overview of the gate project; Tom O, Steve J, Sherrel, Smudge, Karl, Mikey, Rick, Patrick, Hughie, Troy, Curt, Louis, Tom, Guy, IB Ken, OB Ken.

So due to life getting in the way, I did not report to the train shed yesterday. Got home late from the stress test and had to go straight away to supper prep. Wednesday though, I took the camera with me when I walked and took a few pictures.
I have posted here before about the new neighbor who started developing the 100 acre property about a quarter mile south of me, across from that wheat field I have occasionally posted. He's been there about 5 years now, starting in a travel trailer with the intent to turn the pastureland/hayfield into a country estate. He started by moving two large houses in, and remodeling/modernizing them. His wife finally moved up after selling their house in the DFW mid-cities area. This is the guy who uses a weedeater along 1000' of frontage on the county road out front, to make his barbed wire fence look good. He also built a lake out front with a fountain.

The pick up truck is decorative, it never moves. He has other pieces of farm equipment on display scattered around behind the trees.
He temporarily lost his property tax agricultural exemption on parts of the property, so he put up some cross-fencing and bought some cows.

Yes sir, Texas Longhorns!

He regained part of the exemption back.
He also put a small bridge over a small intermittent creek that is just to the right of the above picture.
IMG_0766.JPG

Whoops! Where's the bridge?
IMG_0771.JPG

Looks like it washed away during Sunday's rainstorm. I told him that this would happen, but he is a know-it-all and doesn't listen to his neighbors who have lived here for a while.

Guy - Nice looking fish. Does your wife still chop them in half (in the middle) and cook them with the heads on?
Tom O - Your grandson's experience reveals volumes on what is wrong with today's education system. Too bad that the principal probably cannot fire the teacher.
Patrick - I hate MFA!
Troy -
You know... I never once asked myself: "Self... do you wonder if Willie has nudes on his layout?"
That's how we were born!
Chad - While it's a great idea, I just don't think I could bring myself to do a porn shoot. I believe that they have one over in Germany on the Miniatur Wunderland layout.

Got a few more comments to make, but we're headed out the door right now. So I will get to them later.
Have a great day.

I am invited over here by "troyphoto". As I said in my introduction, I am a busdriver. And this is one of my favourites. Pitty, that there are so few N-scale busses.

Welcome!

N-scale Busses: There are quite a few (at least DM-toyrs and Lippe and Kramm show them) but they are so DANG EXPENSIVE [at least in the promo ads they send] that there might as well not be ones. Unless you are into Japanese N-Scale. Then there are lots and lots of "reasonably" priced busses.

I understand complicated, my eldest son annoys the living hell out of me, he is supposedly intelligent 3 good a levels got into uni, but his scheming over everything to try and make a quick win instead of just do it the normal way drives me totally insane, he has serious issue with the ‘truth’ as well. plus despite being ‘intelligent’ you can see through him like a window pane, or should I say window ‘pain’. there are times I think am I really responsible for his upbringing, then I relax and blame the schools. I do think a good hiding when he was caught lying as a kid might have done him the world of good. Sighs.

My two sons have cut us off. Youngest son, whose wife is from Ukraine, came to me in Sep 2020 during the height of the lockdowns. Said basically that since we were politically and socially conservative, and had voted that way in '16, and were likely to do so again in '20 - well, he and his wife just could not be around 'people like that.' We had an awkward family call Christmas of 2020, and I have not had a word 'boo' from him since. He still lives in the area, bought a new house and I have no idea where it is. He is close to his older brother, and that son too stopped any communication with us.

The two girls? We are as close as can be. The oldest one is a lawyer who worked energetically against the previous administration and now works for the current one in the OMB. Sure our 'politics' differ but I could not be more proud of her and her work. Sure we differ on many things, but I have always listened and discussed with her, and she respects my educated and experienced point of view. She rarely changes my view, but often gives me a new perspective which adds to my own. As it should be.

You cannot imagine the pain wife and I feel over the boys. That's not how we raised them. All efforts to contact have been ignored. Ouch.

Steve, sometimes ya just have to let em go. I don't hear too many of either party who embraces what is going on, but then the parties present specific ideologies that draw people. That's the result of extensive political science. The chemistry is there, now they just have to apply the correct catalyst for the result they want. A lot of people can't truthfully explain what draws them to the party they support. They are drawn like a moth to a flame.

Regarding medicines and pills - I have always believed that there is a kickback to doctors who prescribe certain drugs. I use Humana mail order pharmacy. They and my local Walgreens will always substitute tier I or II (generic) drugs on all of my prescriptions. My doctor is what I call a pharmacologist, not a nutritionist, and therefore prescribes things instead of suggesting life style changes. I have to press him for the reasons behind my afflictions. I have also learned to use certain trusted sites on the Internet. I believe in treating the causes, not masking the results. I'll use some drugs until I can figure out how to change myself to avoid having to use them. Some are inevitable, I still take Lorsartin and Metaprolol for blood pressure, but by losing 50 lbs I have been able to cut back on the dosages. I have also improved eating habits to bring my latest A1c down to 5.6 so the doctor reduced the Metformin by half. I have cut the Levithoroxin from daily to twice a week, I really think that it was just a blip on the blood test, since it only came up once. I have taken the aspirin for over twenty years figuring "what can it hurt?".
Hats off to you @santafewillie for making lifestyle changes. You might be interested in this https://www.medcram.com/courses/wellness (Optimal Health & Immunity Explained Clearly) free course. I don't know him personally but my mom who was an RN thinks very highly of his YouTube channel and I appreciate his explanation of things.

Greetings all! Partly cloudy, and humidity is back, about 80%.

Terry - Our sincerest condolences to you and your family. I can think of nothing to say that your friends here in the diner haven't already said.

Marco - welcome to the diner. I also model in N scale.

Random drug test - I was never convinced that it was really random. It seemed like you would return from vacation, and you would get the call be tested. What I found amazing was people would jeopardize a very good paying job to use drugs. Even years into the program, they would catch someone, not a new hire, but a long standing employee.

Not sure what is on today's agenda, hopefully a little train time.

STAY SAFE
LATER

An aside - I have never met Terry, really don't know him. I didn't know Marie except for Terry's mentions here in the diner. And yet when I read of her passing I was saddened. For some time this morning I just felt down. A friend had lost his spouse.

Hello, again!
Guy - Nice looking fish. Does your wife still chop them in half (in the middle) and cook them with the heads on?
Yeah! I'm afraid my wife is a fish head eating wonder-women. Some of the fish she buys at the Asian grocery look like tropical aquarium fish to me. But, she grew up in an Asian country grass shack by the ocean. I don't suppose her family wasted much, because they didn't have much.
All negatives aside, this is the only women I've known that I could ever trust, no matter what. That quality is most important to me, and a main reason why I love her so much. It's not my place to be rude over what a person likes to eat.

This from Texas Hobo and it says it better then I ever could thank you for posting that
