Good Morning All. Clear and 49° out there right now, going up to 82° later on. The rain that used to be in the forecast for today and tomorrow is no longer there. I am going to have to apply the artificial rain in the garden just as soon as daylight hits here in a few minutes. Run the sprinkler for about two hours and then head out for the weekly grocery/beer trek. Then I have to hurry home to start the carnitas in the slow cooker for supper tonight. I spent over an hour yesterday, trimming and cubing a five pound boneless pork shoulder for the 24 hour dry marinade. Y'all come by, as there will be enough for an army. I'm going to freeze whatever leftovers that you leave.
One nice thing about the lack of rain right now, is that the vegetation in the yard isn't growing like it normally does this time of year and I am not mowing as much. However I am having to go out and hand water those 12 trees that I planted a couple of weeks ago! I did get to finish the pruning back of those intrusive trees on the other side of the road yesterday. Now I just have to haul and trim all of the branches into kindling for next season's fire starter boxes. On the bright side, my wife appreciates not having to dodge those branches when she (we) leave to go somewhere. She's not real keen on the big pile of branches in the yard right now, but that should be gone in a couple more days.
It's kind of noisy here this morning. My 80 year old neighbor's son is going to build his home back up over the hill to the west. Dad signed over all of the property and power of attorney to him about five or six years ago as he has aged somewhat. This morning there have been two tractor-trailers of building materials that have gone by here on the way up there. It's still dark but they're unloading right now. Quite noisy as they stopped before turning onto the road, and then struggled through gears with a fully loaded truck going uphill. Now I can hear the singing of the back-up alarm on the forklift as they unload...but only when I step out on the porch. Next week, I'll get to hear the sounds of nail guns for a while.

Let's make it light this morning Flo, only one egg over easy and one sausage patty with some OJ.

Thanks for the likes regarding the layout tour photos yesterday; Gary, Guy, Garry, Sherrel, Patrick, Hughie, Tom O, Karl, Troy, Greg, Phil, Rick, Jaz.

Still spending a lot of my time doing household stuff and outdoor tasks, and I didn't get a great deal of time in the train shed. Over in Rycon Township, I did add some more weeds and tall grass around the grade crossing and I painted the wooden ties that I will use to make the other grade crossing through the switch.
Continuing on with the layout overview from yesterday, here is the structure that I omitted at the time.
Superior Auto Body which was built out of Pikestuff walls and roof components.

Here's another shot of the corner with the Propane distributor and some of the structures on the aisle side of the track.

More to come, I have many tasks right now.

Tom O - Worse than the TV or smart phones spying on you is Alexa and other similar home assistants! They're always listening in!
Garry - Good luck with the rest of the roof. I am dreading what I will see when it comes time to do mine in the next two or three years. I have no known leaks into the house, but the asphalt shingles are on their 22nd year of a 25 year lifespan. I can see some "beginning to deteriorate" plywood under the valleys at the edge. I will be removing two layers of asphalt and replacing it with a metal roof.
Sherrel - I have a real hard time minding my own business when I am exposed to kids misbehaving in restaurants or other public places. It's a lack of respect for fellow diners. My Dad never tolerated that from us, and just the threat of being slapped in public was enough to keep us all in line. Between our parents, and the nuns and priests at our Catholic school, we were always taught to respect everyone.
Good luck with the RV, I hope that it is something simple.

Everybody have a great day. Stay Safe.

Good morning from So. Central Wisconsin where the needed rains have begun. High today should be low 60’s. On/off rains for the next few days to accumulate when done to 2” of needed moisture.

One of the electricians asked yesterday if he could bring his 10 year twin son and daughter to see the layout this weekend. Said yep, so I will be cleaning and checking everything works. No one other then the wife and grandkids have run the layout with me since February 2020.

Enjoy your day

Morning!
I suppose the weather is good enough for doing the raking and spring yard work; 30°F and all the snow is gone. If I don't break my back raking, perhaps I'll rototill compost into the garden, as well. - The wife is already very active in planning this years flower crop, and as such, is totally out of my hair. I usually plant what can be eaten, and she plants the pretty stuff that we cannot eat. Ah well! I'm glad she has a hobby!

I dropped into the shop last night, and there wasn't enough friends in here to have a game of cribbage. It's been slow over the past couple of days.

Troy - I'll bet you're sorry you bought that barbeque now. The wife has you doing all the cooking!
Patrick - You need to get back into some train modeling. The mind is starting to turn into some kind of IT genius, and is going to destroy the humanity in you. - Think I saw it happen on a Hollywood movie; so it must be true.
Garry - Beautiful spread you have there! Is that a river or a lake behind you're house? - I'll bet the roof is going to cost you some bucks.

I went for a walk again, yesterday. Headed down to the CN staging yard, where I caught big-blue 2466 hooking onto a train and leaving town. I only had time to sent the camera into 'sequence shoot', and take three photos of the train approaching me.
Here is one of the photos:

Here the end of the train, after it passed by:

And I noticed that yard security was keeping a close eye on me, from the cover of old rail ties:

It's not even 7am yet, so I still have time for a couple of coffee before I get the rake out. Won't be taking any photos today. Maybe tomorrow, again.
Have a good one!

Guy: Since I am a Network Administrator, IT is in my blood...OH NO...Danger, Danger Will Robinson! 🤣

Too much Sci-Fi in my past. And I do need to get back into modeling, especially since I lost most of my winter working on the boys house.

Troy: Natural lump is more expensive, but worth it. I don't know why less processing means more money though. Like when they quit adding lead to gasoline, unleaded cost more?

It's daylight and I am still vertical!
49 50 degrees going up to 78 today under a clear, sunny sky.

My Dad never tolerated that from us, and just the threat of being slapped in public was enough to keep us all in line.
WILLIE: My Mom wielded a very mean Weeping Willow switch - made me "weep" too! Not very often, but I did not want to "poke the bear"! My Dad's words were, "You know what your Mother is capable of."

Great photos, GUY!

Got to run -- catch y'all later - play nice!

Howdy ....

Troy ..... The sausage looks like it would be good for breakfast with eggs.

Guy and Willie ..... I hope you have your geese straightened out now. Otherwise I'll call a "fowl". ..LOL :p

Garry - Beautiful spread you have there! Is that a river or a lake behind you're house? - I'll bet the roof is going to cost you some bucks.

Guy ..... Thanks. We are on a bay which is part of Lake Barkley in western Kentucky. It is a large man-made lake which is the Cumberland River with a dam. Our lake is over 50 miles long where the river flows northward from Tennessee to the Ohio River. About 15 miles west is a similar lake called Kentucky Lake which is man-made with a dam on the Tennessee River also flowing notherward from Tennessee to the Ohio River. Together, they border Land Between the Lakes which is a large National Recreation Area. ...... From our house, we can look out towards the main lake and ee Land Between the Lakes. ... We can't see trains from here, but we do see barges. ...... You are correct. The roof project is costly.

This view is from our house. A white towboat pushing barges is visible. Barge traffic is on the Cumberland River. Some of it is coal going to Nashville, TN. The hills behind the tow boat are in Land Between the Lakes.

.....

Workers are on our roof again today. They are finalizing the roof and cleaning up. Gutters are to be replaced this afternoon.

Willie ..... You mentioned you are waiting another 2 or 3 years for a new roof. You may wish to consider not waiting if you think you have leaks. We were going to wait another 2 or 3 years, but when water was dripping through a ceiling light fixture, we started calling roofing companies for quotes. ..... We had 30 year shingles, but they were only up about 20 years. It is evident, the shingles were not installed properly.

Guy : thanks for the derail photos , I thought that was probably what they were but I wasn't sure why they were in those locations . What you said makes perfect sense.

Actually, I've done most of the cooking for the last five or so years.

When her career took us to Los Angeles, I didn't find a college teaching job, so I picked up the author/writing gig. That meant I was home while she was at work. A George Forman Grill, and a crockpot became my weapons of mass production. Especially of stuff that we could tub-up, freeze, and be her lunch at work.

Prior to LA, I was a photographer/college Adjunct. Which meant I still cooked most nights.

She, however, is in charge of baking. Brownies, pies, cookies etc are all left to her. The most I'll do is a frozen pizza or frozen to cookie sheet stuff.

Any time I look at the big kitchenAid stand mixer, I hear a co-voice warning me to STEP AWAY from the mixer...

Some things a husband isn't allowed to turn on.

I was 4 when dad operated an elevator, He left a customer in charge when I showed up at his office , after crossing 2 tracks. I was escorted back home up the hill by 2 escorts. One human, one of the willow kind!

No its not. Not for me, I wont touch the yard till I can be out there without a winter parka & toque on , work up a sweat & enjoy a cold one.

If you live in NY and are looking to get a covid 19 vaccination I would not go on the NY State site. I been looking there for months and did not find any available appointments. I finally looked on our county site and found an appointment for my wife and self in 2 days. I would look on your county site. It's the fastest way to get vaccinated.

I once swore at my mum,she threw a hot cup of tea at me I swerved it hit the wall, needing a paint job,I ran upstairs locked the door to my room,my dad crashed the lock came in with my riding crop I was already under the covers he whacked me through the blankets - good shock absorbers - I think he knew there was far more whip noise than anything else, he was screaming at me for foul mouthing my mother,a never ever repeated transgression. I had great parents my brother and I were blessed to be loved by them lost my dad only a year or so ago sadly my mum died before she was out of her fifties from blood poisoning a mistake by the hospital, dad should have sued but would not, she was much Loved also.I could wish better of my kids but touch wood neither has ever been being picked up by the law and are such lousy liars I can see through it in a heartbeat, one cousin however spent more time in jail than out of it,his family had no choice but to disown him and he burgled us within months of my dad buying him a gold signet ring for his 21st dad never spoke to him again,he stole cheque book from a bed And breakfast and stole their savings,I would have been pixxed over those quarters too,I have even gone back to a shop for something I accidentally walked out with while paying for other stuff and my kids were cringing saying a less than one pound pair of marigold gloves were not worth the effort, they were to me. But I agree finders keepers on the cash in the sofa cushions....I do the hoovering so usually I win on that score lol.

Good Morning gang!

50° with light rain right now, should clear out soon and be pleasant the rest of the day.

I am part of the Western Maryland modelers group on Facebook. They had their photo contest for the next month banner picture. Top prize is usually bragging rights for a month but this month the top prize was a $25.00 gift certificate for Mainline Hobby Supply. Guess who won with this pic??

Best part, Mainline is only 45 minutes or so from the house!!! Nothing like free hobby money!!
