Same Ol' Buzzard
Good Morning All. Clear and 49° out there right now, going up to 82° later on. The rain that used to be in the forecast for today and tomorrow is no longer there. I am going to have to apply the artificial rain in the garden just as soon as daylight hits here in a few minutes. Run the sprinkler for about two hours and then head out for the weekly grocery/beer trek. Then I have to hurry home to start the carnitas in the slow cooker for supper tonight. I spent over an hour yesterday, trimming and cubing a five pound boneless pork shoulder for the 24 hour dry marinade. Y'all come by, as there will be enough for an army. I'm going to freeze whatever leftovers that you leave.
One nice thing about the lack of rain right now, is that the vegetation in the yard isn't growing like it normally does this time of year and I am not mowing as much. However I am having to go out and hand water those 12 trees that I planted a couple of weeks ago! I did get to finish the pruning back of those intrusive trees on the other side of the road yesterday. Now I just have to haul and trim all of the branches into kindling for next season's fire starter boxes. On the bright side, my wife appreciates not having to dodge those branches when she (we) leave to go somewhere. She's not real keen on the big pile of branches in the yard right now, but that should be gone in a couple more days.
It's kind of noisy here this morning. My 80 year old neighbor's son is going to build his home back up over the hill to the west. Dad signed over all of the property and power of attorney to him about five or six years ago as he has aged somewhat. This morning there have been two tractor-trailers of building materials that have gone by here on the way up there. It's still dark but they're unloading right now. Quite noisy as they stopped before turning onto the road, and then struggled through gears with a fully loaded truck going uphill. Now I can hear the singing of the back-up alarm on the forklift as they unload...but only when I step out on the porch. Next week, I'll get to hear the sounds of nail guns for a while.
Let's make it light this morning Flo, only one egg over easy and one sausage patty with some OJ.
Thanks for the likes regarding the layout tour photos yesterday; Gary, Guy, Garry, Sherrel, Patrick, Hughie, Tom O, Karl, Troy, Greg, Phil, Rick, Jaz.
Still spending a lot of my time doing household stuff and outdoor tasks, and I didn't get a great deal of time in the train shed. Over in Rycon Township, I did add some more weeds and tall grass around the grade crossing and I painted the wooden ties that I will use to make the other grade crossing through the switch.
Continuing on with the layout overview from yesterday, here is the structure that I omitted at the time.
Superior Auto Body which was built out of Pikestuff walls and roof components.
Here's another shot of the corner with the Propane distributor and some of the structures on the aisle side of the track.
More to come, I have many tasks right now.
Tom O - Worse than the TV or smart phones spying on you is Alexa and other similar home assistants! They're always listening in!
Garry - Good luck with the rest of the roof. I am dreading what I will see when it comes time to do mine in the next two or three years. I have no known leaks into the house, but the asphalt shingles are on their 22nd year of a 25 year lifespan. I can see some "beginning to deteriorate" plywood under the valleys at the edge. I will be removing two layers of asphalt and replacing it with a metal roof.
Sherrel - I have a real hard time minding my own business when I am exposed to kids misbehaving in restaurants or other public places. It's a lack of respect for fellow diners. My Dad never tolerated that from us, and just the threat of being slapped in public was enough to keep us all in line. Between our parents, and the nuns and priests at our Catholic school, we were always taught to respect everyone.
Good luck with the RV, I hope that it is something simple.
Everybody have a great day. Stay Safe.
