Just finished looking at the taxes , they won't tell us how much , just the appraised value ....next door is wood frame , painted wood exterior and a metal roof `1600sq ft....$500,000 in Central Texas will buy you 5 acres and barn to live in, and for $8000 a year more , they'll let you keep it.

Thanks... Only about 1.5 to 2 hours from me. May be making a road trip soon!

Good evening Shop Dwellers! It's 70*F and calm under partly cloudy skies here in central MD.

As always, a shout-out to all who "liked" or commented on my Tuesday night post - Tom (Cambria), Phil, Hughie, Tom-O, Patrick, Garry, Steve, Karl, Willie, Mike, Gary, Sherrell, Guy. Never knew the mention of the index cards would generate so much discussion, LOL!

. . .
Ken in Maryland - Ginger didn't go in the ground. Brought her home yesterday and she's sitting next to her good friend Hank.

View attachment 128300 These guys were far more than pets, they were dear family members.
. . .
Ok Chet now I get it...this way you can always have Ginger and Hank close to you, even if/when you move! I'll start praying that you succeed in finding Molly another companion.

. . .
drapes, curtains, stage skirting. Ken, I should have worded that better yesterday. I knew you were already in the process, it should have been worded more toward those who are on the fence about covering under the layout.
. . .
Tom - no worries, I thought maybe you were just "affirming" my drapery project! I can sympathize about the modeling "ruts", I just came out of one myself a few weeks ago.

Ken- I like your idea of the prayer cards. Might need to incorporate that in my life. With my STM issues, that might help me remember who & why to pray about.
Mike, the cards also save me a lot of time when I'm offering my Rosary intentions: It's quicker for me to say "... please help all the people on my index cards," than to recite [let alone remember] all the names and intentions for the 40+ people in my stack of cards, that would take me over an hour!

Just a quick status report on my layout drapery project, this evening I managed to get ~2/3rds of the north [top] peninsula fascia (see diagram) equipped with the cloth clips:

Good night, and have a pleasant tomorrow! 😁

Good night, and have a pleasant tomorrow! 😁
Ken- I’m not Catholic(WELS Lutheran here), but I will have to try to pray for all people on my cards. 😎

I am back (not that anyone knew I was gone 🤣 ). My computer was randomly crashing and I took it in and the diagnostics showed it was a broken video controller causing errors that would cause the machine to freeze up. Took a week to get the part in and the fix done, and when I got it home theThunderbolt ports were not responsive. I took it back (this was Monday) and got it back today and it works fine. The problem with the Thunderbolt ports was the new logic board being off a hair when placed back in the chassis and so the ground to the ports not being reliable. (In case anyone is wondering it is an iMac).

Morning all,

Time for a cup this morning and a western omelet and a double side of bacon. Thanks Flo.

Got the kid's dog buried last evening. Had help from the SIL's dad, who was upset about where he wanted the dog buried...under a shade tree is nice, but hitting roots, not so much.

Had about 1/2" more rain at home, but nothing at the office. Hopefully I can get the yard mowed tomorrow after work. Everything seems to do better after a real rain than when I run the sprinkler system. Then maybe I can get the dose of fertilizer down I intended to do last week.

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 67°. Right now the light rain is mainly east and southeast of me. I'm not sure we'll get any today, although it is sprinkling at the Weather Underground station 1.1 miles southeast of me. If it's Friday for Tom, it's Thursday for me and the weekly grocery/beer trek to Denton is on tap. It won't be a big one since we're taking a short three day trip to the Hill Country in Central Texas starting Sunday. We plan to stop in Hillsboro to visit the Roadside America Museum, which is a privately owned collection of 40s and 50s advertising memorabilia, classic cars, and nostalgic Americana. Then it's on to Marble Falls for lunch and a tour of one of the local wineries or breweries. Sunday evening we will meet an old work buddy in Fredericksburg, which is re-known in Texas as a German Heritage town, for dinner. Then a day and a half touring that area, more breweries and wineries and a wildflower seed farm, before departing Tuesday afternoon for dinner with our son and his wife in San Antonio. Depending on when we get to San Antonio, we may go to the model railroad museum there first.
Yesterday was a somewhat productive day, I got four new tires for the RDX in advance of the trip and cleaned up some of the garden afterward. Then we went to eat at Outback Steakhouse with a negative experience that turned positive later. They brought the entree out before the salads, and the server brought cold bread! He sent the manager over who knows us from many previous visits, and she apologized. What I didn't realize until the server brought the check, was that the manager comp'd everything but the drinks, thus saving us around $45!

Easy this morning Flo. Just a bowl of raisin Bran with milk this morning.

Thanks for the many likes (and loves) yesterday regarding he progress on the Savings & Loan; Sherrel, Karl, Steve, Guy, Garry, Patrick, Tom O, Hughie, Joe, Chet, Gary, Tom, Ken.

Mostly yesterday I painted stuff out in the train shed. All of the mailboxes, roof vents and fire hydrants that came with the Bachmann kits. A couple have already been added to the Savings & Loan.

I'm switching directions for a couple of days, and I decided that I wanted to build an Accurail freight car.

I started with the underbody, but I guess that I forgot to take any progress photos!

Sherrel -
On another note: Why do they have Interstate Highways in Hawaii?
Good question! Maybe Elon Musk is going to bore a tunnel to the left coast!
Steve - Interesting side hobby. That's a nice looking bracelet.
Guy - That bank isn't the tallest structure on my layout, but I can relate to it's size. They recently completed a skyscraper in a town twelve miles away, all of four floors of a Holiday Inn. In this part of the world, grain elevators are considered "prairie skyscrapers".
Garry - I can see how those Bachmann kits could supply a person with loads of detail parts. I now have all of the mailboxes, fire hydrants and roof vents assembled and painted; and I will be dropping them into scenes all over.
Tom O - I do sometimes get into a rut or get bored, but not for long. I usually just run trains for a couple of hours and that always perks me up.
Terry - I don't have an issue with paperless billing because I never gave my E-Mail address out to any utility, credit card co., or bank. Whenever they ask for updated info, I still refuse. But if you ever drop your guard and accidently give it away, then beware. I know folks who innocently gave it to utilities years ago before all of this paperless BS hit, and they now have the same issues as you have. I also pay most bills with an envelope, check and stamp.
Tom - I thought that I spotted a vineyard on the left.

Property taxes - Gee Tee brought up the outrageous taxes in his area, $8K a year is outrageous! I pay about $900/yr for a four bedroom 1500 sq ft home, 15 acres and a train shed, plus a barn.

Everybody have a great day. Kroger supposedly dropped the mask mandate yesterday, we'll see how that works out in a few hours.I'll most likely still wear mine this week.

Goood Morning!
The sun is rising into blue sky at 31°F this morning. I suppose it's a good thing I covered the wife's flowers, because there is a visible frost on the neighbors roof. - A greenhouse owner once told me that frost was bad for me, but good for him; lots of people are compelled to buy more if the frost kills what they've already purchased.

I went for another walk into the CN staging area yesterday, while the wife was shopping. It was very cool and dark with storm cloud, but, I still think I got some fairly good photos to add to the pile.

While walking along trackside, the engines being used as local switchers happened along. Both are SD75 I's; CN 5778 and CN 5678.
SD75 I_05-19-2021 (1).jpg

SD75 I_05-19-2021 (1a).jpg

The switchers dragged in that pair of T-Box cars, and proceeded to the other end of the yard where they did some switching and sorting of other box cars. Then they picked up a few more boxcars, and headed west toward the ANC glossy paper mill.

I knew the engines would be coming back after they dropped off the empty box cars, because the ANC mill isn't that far out. So I sat on a log and waited for them.
It took about an hour, but, they did return. They dropped off the loaded boxcars they had picked up at ANC in the staging area. I was able to get more photos as the engines were passing me, headed back into the CN town yard.
Here's one of the return photos:
SD75 I_05-19-2021 (1b).jpg

I'm going to cut it short because the wife has plans today. That translates into me having plans, as well.
Thanks for the likes on my prototype photos, though. Fact is, I like taking prototype pics as much as I like modeling.

Have a good one!

Patrick, if you are using municipal water to irrigate your lawn, bear in mind most city water has ingredients added to inhibit the growth of bacteria, among other things, and probably will do the same for grass. Too bad the city can’t add something to the water to kill the weeds when you water the lawn, but I can see all kinds of complications to that. First would obviously be the tendency to also kill anything drinking it, like people.

Good morning gang!

Not anything going on here, just another sunny day with temps almost reaching 90°f.

Big dog tore a muscle last week in what on us would be his left wrist. He's been on pain meds and sedatives for about 9 days now. Easy to get him to take his meds. Just coat them with peanut butter. This is how I know the wife really loves the big dog, as she is highly allergic to peanut butter, but she will fix his meds with no problem. If the grandkids or I want a PBJ, I have to fix it! Big Bud is funny through, as the wife or son#4 take him outside for a bathroom break he will keep them outside waiting and waiting for him to do his bidness. I take him out and he goes right away. The difference is the leash. They are so afraid he will do something stupid and re-injure himself they have him on a 4 ft leash. I take him out without a leash and let him wander halfway across the yard. Its simple stage fright I guess.

Local auction house is having their annual spring train auction all online. https://wachterauctionassociates.hibid.com/ I cant say why, but the G gauge Shay is calling me!

KenL I did see some auto parts cars at the auction

BTW we are maskless in Absurdistan, oh happy day!! Colonel Hogan has lifted the mandate of vaccinated folk like me! 😃

Steve
. Awesome looking bracelet!

James, great to hear of working BL2s! Much better than to be stuffed and mounted in a museum

BBL, boss wants me to work!!!!!

TOM - Every day with me is Friday ... I love it! There is never enough time to get everything done, I don't know how I once did more when I was working?

CHAD - Of course we all were wondering where you were hiding! I asked every day: Where's CHAD?
(several others did too!)

WiLLiE: You could start a new TV commercial with your Outback experience. 'Free Food - Get your Cold-Free Food here! Guaranteed cold, or the next one's on me!'
Kate and I spent most of the afternoon in the WW2 museum in Frederiksberg - we both love the area.
When we left town, I took the wrong road and we were in Mason before we knew it; she liked the town square there as well.

GUY - As per usual - great photos -- nice and sharp and clear!

Speaking of missing persons! Where is LASM?

Good Morning - still vertical at 58F/14C with mostly sunny and looking for a high of 70F/21C.
When I was driving the aluminum overcast, I could convert those numbers in my head "lickly split".
Nowdays they probably have a built in computer dial in the panel that shows F/C.

Howdy FLO - Western Omelet with Sourdough toast and a pile of bacon (quick, before the Cardiologist notices)

Good morning from the wetness of So. Central Wisconsin. The rains started around noon on Tuesday and continued non stop till about 9 this morning. No gully washers but steadiness falling to fill the rain gauges to 1.4”. This is the way rain should be, steady. No one needs 1, 2 or more inches in an hour or more in 24 hours. I have 3 working weather stations around the property and this is the 1st time all 3 gauges are the same since we moved here in 2014.

The prayer index card. What a simple, great and easy idea. There are a lot here that get and need the prayers. Prayer has never hurt anyone.

drapes, curtains, stage skirting. Ken, I should have worded that better yesterday. I knew you were already in the process, it should have been worded more toward those who are on the fence about covering under the layout.

Steve, see I told you we are a caring bunch. Sometimes it helps to let it out. Anytime please...

Willie, you are an inspiration to model railroaders. You continue to dig away at what you enjoy. I get into ruts and modeling funks, frustrations and walk away for a bit.

face masks, our mask mandate in the county ends this Monday. But some of the merchants are thinking they will keep the masks in stores to protect their employees. One of the local major grocery chains they will stay until July 1 for them. He said corporate says another month will give added comfort to the front line employees so it won’t hurt to stay another month. When asked what will they do about folks refusing the mask, “security will give them a mask or escort them out.” He also says they have quite a few teens who had been unable to get the shots. Those will get store provide vaccine shots starting next week.

our contractor, asked yesterday if we have any planned projects for the balance of the year. Told him nothing in Wisconsin. He then asked if we could work a deal on our unsold lots in our subdivision. He wants to build 5 spec homes as that is about the material he has stocked in the warehouse. He and my land speculator, Terry, will definitely work something out.

Have a safe fun day

What’s the 8k a year for? Sorry being a Brit I suspect a tax, but nosy :)

Jaz avalley -- I'm not in Texas, but I suspect he is talking about the RealEstate Property Tax.
Texas has no State Income Tax and so they have a higher than normal property tax - I think.
To me it seems that the tax varies on where you live there.
Don't get me started, but the "TAXING" has all gotton out of hand! You buy a place to live - called ownership - then you have to pay each year to keep it or they will take it away from you. The people who control the "tax money" can never get enough -- needs to stop!

Property Tax.

For Jaz

I don't know how it works in the UK, but most local municipalities get (much of) their revenue through property taxes on property owners. Usually $x per $1000 of valuation. Some municipalities also have a sales tax -- usually added to their state sales tax that also helps out. (Your state may have a base sales tax of 6% and your city may add 1% on for its needs. In Utah, some cities and counties add in extra above the standard but most just take the standard rate, which is divided by the state, county, and city/town [technically sales tax much different than VAT but the end effect is the same -- an additional amount you pay when buying something].
