So the weather held and I was able to burn a few rib-eye steaks. Salt, pepper, garlic powder. At the end, a drizzle of soy sauce, flip, soy sauce, flip and remove. Let sit for 15 mikes. While they are relaxing, I saute some onions and mushrooms, salt, pepper, garlic powder and when almost done, pour some of the juices from the resting steaks into it. oh, yeah! Falling asleep now...

Good morning all. Sunshine and showers; sometimes together.
A large coffee please, Flo.

More information on the old guys ordnance. No more was found, but what he had was near a gas pipe.
Had that caught alight the whole of Great Park Estate would have disappeared. Anyway the area is peaceful again.

Today I shall be taking it easy. In the train room later

Good morning all!

Going to be a gorgeous day weather wise. Currently a pleasant 57F heading up to 80F.

Today I have to figure out a solution for my chlorine floater. I purchased a new one this year with a better thermometer. Because of its shape it now gets caught in the skimmer and chokes off the water supply to the pump. I thought about just drilling a small hole in it and putting it on a string at the other end. Not sure, must be a solution.

Not much else going on today. Probably spend some time in the basement this afternoon making some more rocks.

Have a safe day everyone!

A nylon mesh/web bag, and secure it away from the suction port for the pump.

Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy and 69°, might reach 86°, a tad cooler than yesterday. Same mixed weather forecast for us for the next 10 days, mostly cloudy days with a chance of rain every day from Tuesday on. Of course it will rain, I'm dog-sitting two granddogs who like to romp in the country! That means wet and maybe muddy paws when I let them back in.

Got a lot accomplished yesterday. After the dishwasher early, I got the window A/C unit prepped and installed with a minimum of difficulty. SIL and grandson did the installation under my expert guidance. Finished filling the pool with water and started the filter pump successfully. Did some more trimming with the weedeater and even raked up the resulting debris!
Mowing will resume today with the small south part of the property, it's the only part that I didn't get last week...it's about 8,000 ft². I have to remove the Green Pea plants from the garden and get some of the Onions out of the ground.

I'll have to give the mineral spirits a go the next time I run my Centerline car. I've just always used IPA since it cleans other stuff well. I don't have any issues with dirty track out in the train shed. The building is relatively new at just 15 years old, and I run trains 3-4 days a week; sometimes almost daily some weeks. But I do like to run a track-cleaning train every few months as an added preventative. I think that I don't have to use a basement helps as well.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I tested my new air conditioner. Yep! It works. I didn't run any trains, because by that time yesterday, I had enough standing for the day. So I set up and built an Accurail boxcar kit. This is a really old kit from them, from the late 90's or early 00's when they still "pinned" the coupler covers and wheelsets.
1748782617199.jpeg

Even back then, I shaved the pin off the coupler cover and drilled a hole in it; and mounted it and the trucks with 2-56 x 1/4" screws which fit the holes perfectly. I also replaced their plastic wheelsets with Kadee blackened metal ones.
1748783964244.jpeg

I will use the Accumate operating coupler since I have never had any issues with them.
Only difficulty that I encountered was the weight was wider than the raised guide ridges allowed, so off they came as well.
1748784056523.jpeg

I had to re-number this car and I have one more that I'll have to do. Accurail didn't offer extra numbering decals at the time so I had to remove part of the old number and replace it with a dry transfer. From the box, the old number.

Newly renumbered.
1748784270691.jpeg

3's go in place of 8's easily with no spacing issues.
I am running very low on the dry transfers, so I need to be careful because I don't really need to purchase another set. The sets that I bought at the time (early 00's) have O, N, and S scales as well as HO, which are just wasted.

Swal - Sorry to read about your troubles with USPS. It must be your area, because here they are just as reliable as FedEx or UPS.
Mike - I checked this morning, and my pool water was up to 75°. Was still in the low-60's 2 weeks ago before I took the cover off. I expect it to cool by 2-3 degrees now that the cover is off, but the clouds will keep it from warming up any time soon. Bummer start to the season, but it will be quite warm, almost hot in a few weeks.

Marilyn Monroe was born on this day 99 years ago.

Everyone have a good Sunday.

Good morning,

A pleasant 48 degrees with hazy sunshine.

I had fun running trains yesterday, also got the walls cut out for my new depot building - Grantsburg WI.

Cut a pretty nice size paper birch yesterday and got all the branches piled. It was shading our blueberry patch and will provide some excellent firewood.

Morning all,

Having a sleepover tonight at least for the 3 granddaughters. I think the grandson is starting to feel "too old" as he said he probably won't be here overnight. We're also celebrating the youngest one's 8th birthday. Her actual birthday is on Tuesday, so this is the closest time we can get evryone here. I did manage to get the PEZ shelf completed, so I did accomplish something...

Currently a not windy 68° headed for 87° later.

Good Morning. Happy Sunday! Happy June 1! Supposed to be sunny today, high of 69°. Set a new record this morning...today was the latest the heat has come on since I have lived in this house...(39 years). One of the downsides to our aging, is we both mind the cold more than we used to in days past.

Concerning USPS delivery. The local PO has a tendency to send parcels back to the Regional PO in Trenton whenever they are overwhelmed by deliveries. Other than that, they are generally reliable, especially when the regular carrier is on. Substitutes vary in competence.
I recently ordered a RS32 direct from Atlas, and elected to use USPS First Class. I figured it was coming from Hillside, what could go wrong?
It was shipped on Friday and I received it Saturday evening via UPS. Since that was their election, perhaps they have their doubts.

This should MU nicely with either my Atlas RS-11 or my Proto RS-27, once I install a decoder. I do like ALCOs.

Good morning. 86f degrees and heading to 100 or about 8 degrees cooler then yesterday.

The ladies arrived yesterday at noonish per the schedule. Dinner last night (8pm) was steaks on the grill and some nice salads. I forgot to buy any potatoes as I like a nice baked potato with a steak but the meal was good anyway. I also grilled corn on the cob, buttered and wrapped in aluminum foil. The brother did his jerk shrimp but also did some unseasoned for Terry as she’s not that big a hot spice person. Today I will work with the girlfriend on how to handle the brother’s PT when the therapist is not here. Right away it was “why does he have to”…

Doctors orders was the answer for most of her questions. Basically though hooking up his pool safety pulley system might be the hardest thing for her. IMOO as I’m not a therapist and did not stay at the Holiday Inn Express last night he’s progressing pretty damn good.

I shopped at a local regional (I think) grocery store, Smith’s. I looked online for grocery stores online and the 1st 10 listings were Walmart, Walmart Super Centers or Target. My brother is on the southside of Vegas in the Southern Highlands Golf Community and stores seem rare down here. I waited for Terry and she balked at the price of the corn on the cob, $2.00 per ear! Yep, 2 bucks. Overall she said though the prices were similar to the name brand pricing back home. Told the brother where we were going. He said he buys online there but mainly at Whole Foods. 5 miles away and in 3 years he’s never been in either store. He said he has no clue where the Whole Foods is.

The car I drove needed gas. $3.90 per gallon much better than the $5.49 per gallon in Pasadena!

7:18 local time and the wife is going swimming after her coffee. The water temperature was 76 this morning and comfortable when I was in swimming laps at 5:45. The brother thought it was still cool but walked anyway. So I’ll leave the sail shade cloth open again today.

Enjoy your day

Good Morning All!

59F @ 48% slight overcast. Only to 75F at 1600. Better than yesterday at 89F

While it is cool for most of the morning, will be out detailing the Nissan to get it gone. Found a '87 Bronco II 5 speed 4x4 - body and interior in very good shape. Has oil in the water of which I do not remember ever seeing on any vehicle. Normally, it is water in the oil. Hmmm. Owner thinks blown head gasket. For the $2500 he wants probably worth it, yes will offer a little less - we will see. Still kick myself for selling the '87 Bronco I had when we moved here. This should fix that. Will figure out which head, then go from there. Down the road it is to get a somewhat built 302 - nothing like a V8! If only I could find a inexpensive BOSS 302. They want gold for those!

Told Maria that the honeyDu list is going on hold for awhile as I have to get into the Train Cave before I go to the MRR in the sky. Ya, know I have more than a few years left, but still. Had an arrhythmia yesterday which prompted the honeyDu stuff. Heart felt like it was moving around in it's cage. No pain, pressure, tingling, numbness, sight or balance problems, BP was 114/87, glucose was 122. Lasted about 10 minutes. Will give the Doc a call Monday and see what she thinks. The same thing happened just after my 3 pass in '18 and the Doc at that time said something like 'No worry, heart is healing itself' what ever that means.

Willie: I know you only dog sit on occasion, but you may look into what Maria found. 'Muddy Mats'. Those muddy prints going through the house pretty much went away; works on people paws too. We now have them in front of all the doors and she wants a couple more - dog dish, sink .. who know where else.

I have one of these doggie cups. Just add water and stick their paws inside and twirl it around.

Then dry off. Works well for our type of mud.
