Shifting Gears. Rocky Mountain Train Show Saturday April 11, 2026...went for me quite well. I got in a good five hours or so at the various layout venues (not much interested in buying anything, but no disrespect the all the vendors. My focus is on a future (modular) layout participants. They have the same space as in a year or two earlier at the same event, so it was largely the same as a year or two before, but quite a few people had done a lot more too.

Just commenting on a post a couple pages back about service dogs that do not qualify as service dogs. It is a sore spot for me having watched and waited for my wife to finally get one matched to her after a long wait versus someone ordering a vest on Amazon and calling their pet a service dog.

RIght, so less a problem than a personal...or even behalf of your wife...and so it's a personal issue. Oh, DO trust me as I DO symathieze.

Good afternoon gang!

Well, the Holly tree is gone, with the exception with the trunk which is stacked and drying behind the shed. Son #3 and I made quick work of it and made 3 trips to the landfill to get rid of the branches. Afterward I took a nap until wife made dinner. I woke up and notices that if I belched, a strong sulphur smell came . . around 9 pm it started. It started as stomach pains and lots of 💩 , so I wasup most of the night with the "Hershey squirts" . around 7 am I was able to lay down and be comfortable, and I slept til 1:30. I still haven't eaten anything except for Iced tea. Might try some crackers later.

Dogs in public. I have no issue with dogs in public as long as the behave correctly, but that depends on the owner. I used to take my Doberman EVERYWHERE with me. He was an absolute gentleman around strangers, attentive toward me and calm. I would not take him into establishments to eat food, but drive in windows were fine. Mostly I would take him to Petsmart, HD, Lowes, Tractor Supply, Napa, etc. My Border Collie has been to most the same places, but I really do have to keep her on a short leash, as she wants to play with everyone. The little dog stays at home. She's great around familiar people, but fearful in public. A fearful dog in public is a problem because of the flight or fight instinct. We're working on it little by little.

Wow! The nerve of some people!

Did they think you were still traveling and you wouldn't be home to notice? Is this the same neighbor with the wind chimes?
No it a house 2 across the back. I’m still in disbelief. Maybe 120’ of heavy power cord. I’m wondering if they’ve done this before when we are gone. It’s seemed done really well. My neighbor directly behind would be clueless. She’s gone the 4 days she doesn’t have her kids. The chimelady again clueless as she seldom ventures out back. We stopped telling our neighbors when we are gone maybe a year ago, now just the local police and post office. I did change this morning the house codes just in case including the WiFi codes. Need to add a note to operating instructions on the layout as a few of the guys connect their phones to operate!

I don’t have security cameras up except in the front. I’ll get that changed this week. Out of all this though I’ll get my fence and the landscaping I want. I know a few years ago when the house was our corporate HQ with employees we had some parts stolen off the generator. But that was I think b4 COVID

I am too old to create a scene and that is exactly what would happen. The wife suggested the most I do is put it on the neighborhood FB page but seriously why bother. I was so tempted to snipping off the plug of that heavy cord. The police officer who responded to my call stopped by as he started his shift this afternoon. Said he will go knock on their door and asked what happened, like how did their power cord end up attached to my generator. He knew last night I wasn’t going to privately do anything. His supervisor suggested the visit letting the neighbor know there will be no charges because the video and photos are not proof enough because the house owner (me) disturbed the scene,

I did have a neighbor ask me why the cops were here last night and I told him. The rumor mill is working now because a neighbor a few doors down stopped by when we came back from the grocery store. He said you got to be kidding me, said no and have photos and a video of me following the cord to the house.

I called our local handyman who will come by tomorrow and install the cameras as I’m banned from climbing ladders by the wife. He will draw up the fence and handscape plan for the yard for pricing. Should be easy enough as I gave him the proposal from a few years ago. If he wants the job he’ll price it reasonably. I will get my firepit and Terry gets a terraced planting bed and fountain in the south east corner where I put the portable wheeled raised beds every year. 4 new cameras and 2 flood lights will get added to the house. One will be angled to the path of the power cord I returned last night.

The police officer did tell me he would have gone 2 feet shot of my property line, taken a picture and cut the cord inside my property then report it. That way if the neighbor complained I’d have proof of the theft. He smiled as he said it and left. I don’t think like that, too bad…

Good afternoon. It's sunny and 82.
Some of you may remember me mentioning I was considering getting some analog engines, and leaving them that way, in case my DCC system died after I retire (no money), so I can still run some trains. So, this afternoon, my year and a half old Digitrax DT602 dual throttle started giving me problems. The right throttle will send a speed signal of whatever it wants when I touch the knob. Anything from 0 to 100, and if I try dialing it down or up, it randomly goes--somewhere other than where I put it.
It's old enough now it's out of warranty, I'm going to email Digitrax and see how much they would charge me to repair it. I do have 4 analog engines I can use while the throttle is out for repairs. Lucky me...

Cameras will just be something else ( a challenge ) for the thief to work around. This guy sounds like he is pretty crafty.
Put cameras were they are hidden, then catch their trespassing, thieving ass.
Or put them in very conspicuous places to let folks know you are watching and hope the cameras don't get stolen or destroyed.

3 things I can't stand ....a liar, a cheat and a thief. And the thief is the worst.

My 2 cants....John

Put visible non-functional cameras out with wires going nowhere, then hidden cameras that are the real ones.

I prefer to have my cameras all out in plain sight. Keep them out of my yard in the first place. It's funny how everybody tends to walk on the other side of the road when they pass my house.

I also use remote IR lights. The cameras have IR capability, but if you use the IR light on the camera, it picks up all the bugs that are drawn to the light. This photo shows how bright the lights are to the camera. The people don't see it at all. 4K camera.

Color camera for the front. It also captures audio. I may move this one to the car port to get it closer to the street. This one is two 4K cameras in one body.

Good late afternoon/evening folks. 74 here and been sprinkling all day. Supposed to be warm this week with rain most days, unbelievable how folks think they can just steal stuff and it's no big deal. An Illinois Circuit Judge some years ago was hearing a case where some dirt bag had stolen a man's work trailer that had all the man's tools in it for his job. By the time he was caught, all the tools were gone and the trailer damaged. The punk thief was pretty confident it would be a minor conviction, but Judge Williamson didn't see it that way. He hit the guy with 10 years and seized his car!

Anyway our day here was Church, with a young lady who is our niece Nataley's best friend, got baptized. She is a really sweet girl, who is very shy, but we have gotten to know her pretty well as she is over here regularly. They are on their school's volleyball team together.
Took a nap today after the Afternoon Service and it felt really good. Primered a couple of mechs and now gonna have some leftovers for dinner.
You guys have a good night.

Tomorrow, I pick up my rescue dog Murphy. I finished installing the dog door and his bed in my room. Interesting why do all these dog door ads have woman doing the installation. It's not that easy of a job to get done. Swal

better ask if he's a digger or a jumper. You might have an escape artist on your hands. Don't want to brin him home, then have him run off to Tumbuktu.

It sounds like you may have an encoder failing. They can be replaced cheaply if you don't mind soldering.
