Well, howdy there internet speed racers, and those with Amish aspirations
It's Troy again, firmly ensconced in the 21st Century. Definitely not Amish. Although, I did do some reading on LDS theology to better understand the prepper mentality in the faith. It was an interesting dive into an area of religious studies I hadn't ventured into.
But, back to the real world.
Started the process of talking down the game table yesterday. It's a homemade 2ft x 6ft plywood and 2x4 and 1x4 construction. It will get remade into three smaller tables with various functions. The goal is to free up floor space to move the treadmill and Teeter table out of the train area.
But I got distracted when I started to remove the "outdoor" carpet piece that served as a play mat on the table. I pulled the staples out of it, flipped it over to roll it up. Doing what with it, I have no clue. I've got enough other play mats made out of Neoprene I don't need this one.
Then I realized I could cut it into smaller sections to act as an area of Woods on the gaming table. We normally used some felt, or 3d printed templates that have been painted and sceniced to look good.
So I dug around the gaming stuff and found some of the 3D printed ones I hadn't applied flock to, and used them as templates to mark on the back of the carpet.
I cut a total of three rows of templates out of half the roll. But I did have to go get the respirator mask from the spray booth. I was flinging all sorts of static grass style fibers into the air. And the cheapo scissors didn't cut it. Fortunately, my grandfather was an upholsterer, and knew how to keep really good shears very sharp. I have two sets in my hobby kit. My wife has several from Gramps in her sewing kit. So I dug those out and they made short work of the mat.
The red handled ones are NOT from Gramps.
Then I needed to clear some floor space in the basement, so I had to room to position one of the "new" tables I'm going to make from the old. That meant a couple of 3Ft wire rack shelving unit needed to be combined and moved to the garage.
Problem! One set of shelves was 16" deep. And the other was 18" deep. The two shall not mate.
After staring at the shelves, and little plastic sleeves to lock them onto the uprights, now scattered across the basement floor. I cursed. My hope was to put four more wire shelves onto the tall 6ft uprights, and scrap the 3 foot uprights. Then move the new unit to the garage.
What I ended up doing was swapping the uprights and shelves. I have 3 of the 16" shelves now on the short uprights. And they fit nicely under the model railroad, and better organize some of my gaming terrain.
The tall uprights with the four deeper wire shelves have been moved to the garage for reassembly at a later date.
