I have been working on this diorama for several months. The details come from numerous vendors; Sierra West Models, Tichy Train, Scale Structure Limited, Walthers, Woodland Scenic, Custom Finishing, Preiser, Busch and Showcase Miniatures just to name a few. I spend countless hours suffering the web for items.

And yes RE#1, the intent is to build a train station with that kind of limestone walls.....kind of like the base of the shanty that you just showed.

Lifelike Color offers a stone grey kit. Apply a base color then dry brush the other colors available in the kit to simulate different colors of stone. A wash of burnt umber or black is then applied over the model.

Painting isn’t the issue for me, more so the materials, is the shanty a kit above or did you scratch that as well?

Hello BigGRacing, Sorry for the confusion...no...it was a kit. The only scratch building I do is out of necessity. I usually buy a kit and then modify it if need be. So I understand better what is it that you want to accomplish.

I was just wondering if there was any easy way to do big limestone walls, but I think I will just scribe into my wood with a chisel when I start

What are you going to do with this Diorama? Will you eventually incorporate it into a layout? You sure did a wonderful job with it!

I do not have a layout. I will add it to the other dioramas on the shelf unless someone wants to buy it...but it will not be cheap...

How did I miss this? Wow! What a build, very impressive. John Allen had a roundhouse and scene on the MR cover that made me fall for steam and roundhouses. Your attention to the details make this roundhouse come alive, well done.
