i want to get my old athearn tunnel motor for when i add a dcc board to it. The motor right now is loose and I can remove it no problem. But the lead that held it in originally is still there and goes down and into the 4 holes under the fuel tank. Does anyone have any recommendations to remove this lead?

Remove? All you should need is something to attach the motor, double sided foam tape though work, as it'll insulate the bottom of the motor.

thats it? i thought I had to remove all that junk and use some sort of plastic adapter thingy ma jig thing. Sounds good to me. I'll get some new double sided tape and remove the old stuff, clean it so the new tape will stick.

Now for the isolation of the ground. What do I ground the original wire to?

It's hard to visualize the lead you're talking about. My old Athearns have those plastic/vinyl white clips that lock into the motor then into the 4 holes, no lead in mine.

Would you possibly be able to post a pic?

Mark

i'll post a pic later. This is an old bluebox sd40t-2. It does not have the plastic piece that goes into the holes. The lead filled those holes in and would have to be drilled out to use those holes.

Yeah, sounds like what A-line sells. It's designed to weigh the unit down more, to create more traction. When going to DCC you have no need for anything more then some good strong double sided tape. Try to get the 3M gray tape with the red backing, its really tacky.

Then hardwire the DCC decoder as the following video shows.

Obviously the double sided tape does the job of the insulating yellow tape they show.

You can leave out the styrene strip, he just does that to clean up the install some too. I'm sure someone else can post a link to a forum post or web page somewhere...
