Glenn-it looks like you will have another outstanding layout that is fun to operate. Keep the pictures coming!
I'm jealous of all those wall outlets.
That is one mistake I made with my train room, not enough outlets.

Way-to-go, Glenn! It's looking mighty fine. I will have to tell Bill B. that you got setup and how nice a room you have. You don't have that center room/walls in this one...lots of play space ;). BTW: How did you pack up the sections for the move??

Eric: Pick me up on your way. It sure good to hear that you can get a State bus. (no bars on the windows, please. LOL:D )

Larry: You have to add about 4.5 more hours to your drive. Glenn moved out on us and is down on the Coast.

Hey, I'm up for a ride to Mobile, especially if we can Eric can get a state van and write it off to "park research". :)

Glenn, as long as you're going to run the big scale around the top, that will create the perfect spot for a valence and more lighting. Have you looked into rope lighting? I've seen some pictures of guys who use several strands of rope lights under a valence around the periphery of the layout and it gives a nice even light to the backdrop and the corners.

Rex, Most of the sections were 16" wide, so I built a rack to slide them into. I used the rack in the 26' van for the ride to Mobile. Then I pulled the sections out and moved the rack to the garage. I then put the sections back in. The corner and end modules I stacked around the rack and used some straps to hold them together. Only had minor track damage on a couple of sections and one riser came loose. Not bad for a 300 mile move with a layout that was half hearted planned and built to be relocated.

Jim, I may haunt the after Xmas sales for rope lights. I do have some large bulb outdoor Xmas lights that I don't use on the house any more that have been saved for possible layout use. I may have to dig them out and see what they will do. With roof clips, they just might mount on top of the backdrop temporarily.

Larry, picking you up at the airport is no problem as I live less 5 miles from the airport. Don't have any extra $ for plane tickets. LOL The railroad is sucking up any and all excess $ getting started back up and ready for the ops session.

State bus??? Ok, but you guys will have to wear the orange coveralls for the day (and pick up some ROW trash for a few hours on the way down). :D

Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of a limo, this being the ARG and all. :D

Eric, a limo would be a lot more classy, no doubt about it. I have a friend who's the head of what would be the Department of Motor Vehicles in most states and his department is responsible for licensing limo services. I wonder if I could have him him lean on a limo company for a special ARG rate...you know, just some persuasion, Alabama style. :)

We could probably raise $20- 30 is we passed the hat... How hard is he willing to lean? :D

Eric, he can lean pretty hard since he's the one who decides if the limo company gets an operating license next year. Maybe I can convince him that one of the companies needs to make a demo run to prove they are safe operators. :)

Great progress, Glen! I've been wondering if you had ever re-started with the RR. Who you got coming so far for the ops session?

Pam and I will be down for a day soon, got to visit her mother's house and get a crib from it, and gotta see the family while there. Mind if I give ya a call, while I'm there?

Cary,

I have a bunch of guys from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Model Railroad club coming. I hope to have some of the SWARM guys come. I have a friend in Biloxi who I am hoping will come. I also thought I would contact the Gulf division superintendent. Hopefully will be able to have a good crowd.

The session is planned for the 12th if that is the weekend you are headed down. I'll be home working on the railroad Labor Day weekend.

Give me a call. My cell number hasn't changed.

Glenn

I got the UP5 power buss pulled and wired up this week. I started laying cork roadbed for the next town.

Unfortunately this weekend was more family projects. I had to go to north Alabama to move furniture for my MIL on Friday and then spent Sat. helping my father with photographing some of his Persian and Turkish rugs.

Did get home in time today to finish laying cork and start laying track. Those #10 turnouts sure look good! Can't wait to put a passenger train thru them.

A couple of pictures of the track laying and one shot of the outside of the train room and sunroom.

Glenn

Glenn, is that whole section without windows your train room? If so, I hate you almost as much as I hate Rex now. :D

Jim,

The one small window is just in the train room and it goes all the way to the end. The room is 32'6" x 32'6". Just a few inches larger than the basement in Odenville. The sunroom keeps me dry as I go back and forth to the train room on days like yesterday.

How much rain did you get yesterday? It was sprinkling when I went through about 10am.

Glenn, all it did was sprinkle. We got a grand total of .28 inches. You guys down in Mobile and up in T-Town have been doing a lot better than us. We are in some kind of dry slot here.

That looks like a great way to build a train room. I have a pretty good size basement (of which I'm allowed a tiny part :) ) but going up and down constantly is a pain compared to having everything on one level. Of course, the basement is pretty handy when we get tornado warnings. :D

Glenn, that is an outstanding setup you have there with the room addition. Good environment, large space, convenient...dang that is nice! When you going to switch to HO? Ha-ha! LOL :D

Rex,

I'll switch to HO when they quit making it so Horribly Over sized. LOL I can bearly afford this room. How would I afford a 65' x 65' room? What would the trusses alone cost? Just thinking about it will give me nightmares for a week!:eek::eek:

Glenn

Your LUCKYYY I'll be moving in soon, just prepare me a small little space in the corner will be fine;):D;):D

Chris,

If you move in, does that mean I don't have to do any more yard work? The natural area around the trees at the back of the yard will get done? The grass will get fertilizer and sand spread on it? The flower beds will get weeded? The roses will get deadheaded? The plants on the patio will be repotted and/or planted in the garden? The rest of the backyard will be landscaped?

I think I will like this deal, I got tired just starting your work list! LOL!
