Re: language on the Forum.

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

The number one thing to remember about the internet was that it was conceived and created by techno geeks who had little regard for their english teachers :P

I could abbreviate things, but try not to. I don't "do" text chat or anything.
BUT I am dyslexic and admit to not always using spell checker AS SOME DON'T WORK.
I can type somehting that looks correct to me, but may be skewed to the rest of you who are NOT dyslexic. I am more dyslexic, or rather it shows up more in my typing as my brain sends the out-of-order letters or words to my finger tips faster than I can correct an error with the fingers...
It is so much so that I can proof-read and STILL see a misspelled word "correcly" for my brain. I put it in my signature to "pleae ignore my dyslexic typing" but few read it, and figure spell checker should catch it "if only you would use it." It doesn't alwasy work onall sites, even though they have it.

ALSO spell checker does NOT know I wanted the word "from" when I typed "form" instead...boht are valid words to spell checker.

My "T"s and "h"s are almost always messed up as in the word "boTH" and "someTHing" above- I left it so you can see what I mean.
Then I am guilty of typos, like anybody.

What I can't stand is those who cannot spell at all, spell phonetically, spell rediculously, or spell the wrong word. There IS a difference in "there", "Their" and "they're" as well as "to" and "too". {notice I got teh "th"s right there}.

It may be hard if we use jargon that is colloquilisms to our USA country and Engligh language here for foreigners. I am sure if we went to their sites in their native tongue, we would miss the jargon and colloquilisms they use.
Then there is the simpel difference in names of things. Those in Europe who learned England's English will find we call things differently in the USA. A " lift" in UK is an "elevator" here. "crisps" in UK are "potato chips" here. "chips" in UK are "French Fries" here. Just to name a few.

Oh..and to Cjcrescent, you would be so proud of me if I showed up in the ER. I have my complete medical history adn medication list with the name, dose adn the instructions of "daily" or "BID", or "TID", or "QHS" or "PRN", etc, etc...all to tell you how often or when I take said medications! I have all my surgeries listed, adn all my medical conditions adn all my attending Doctors for said conditions. 1 sheet tells you all you need to know about me.
By now, many of you have noticed I spell "and" as "adn" often, I have nto bothered to correct it here.

I can tell by others who are dyslexic in their typing often, makes sense to me, but maybe nto to you.
My Other Half is soooooo dyslexic as to transpose not just complete words, but complete sentences! ANd can't spell wortha darn either!

And remember- fully one half of all High school grads and college grads {including Doctors adn Lawyers} GRADUATED in teh BOTTOM half of their class with C's and D's...!!!!!
respectfully with dyslexic error...By TheWay...I cannot spell "dyslecix" either...that is how it comes out!

Well th thang abut misspilled wurds is th mujarity of th tumes a parson kin reed n understn and provided that the rest of the sentence is on subject. In fact if it's topic related most times it's readable and understandable.
Now that being said, spelling is very important because of our members whose everyday language is other than English. My problem is the starting of glaucoma and I do make spelling mistakes. I jus can't help it (like I unintentionally left that T out) and other times I hit the wrong key. We are humans, we're not perfect and no one should expect us to be. But we try and we expect others to try to do their best. Can't ask for more than that :D
Cheers
Willis

Thats a typo actually.

Not in my case, that is how my brain "sees it", its about like getting my T's and H's backwards.
teh word "THE" comes out teh for me. SOmetimes I catch it, sometimes I don't.
Spell checks often can take a word like teh and offer you combinations of words that do NOT include teh word "the". What does one do then, when one sees nohting wrong with it to begin with?

There was a test developed at a College and circulates email about like this:
"If yuo acn raed tihs, yuo are oen of 55% of poeple who can raed missplleed adn mistyped words correctly,a s you r eyes adn brain see it corrcetly"

Beleive it or not, I can read it!

Understand Galaxy, I wasn't being critical, only curious since I see it so often on forums.

Perhaps I'm the one seeing the letters out of order.:)

Does that imply the hunt and peck method of typing rather than touch typing?

I'm a FAST 2 finger typer. People are always asking me how I can have a Blog & not be a fast typist. I never took typing lessons & never needed them.
Many years ago I was an Office Mgr. in a big company in Miami behind the airport. I did all of the job figures on a giant book keeping machine that was all manual. I'm also an exc. speller. I can always catch myself when I mis-spell a word almost instantly & go back & change it. Now, 1st thing in the morning I can't guarantee that.
