I dropped in my favorite LHS today and saw this. I had to have it so I picked it up. Little high in price but nice unit. Interior lighting and marker lights. Very good detail. Mine's an undecorated one that I will try my luck with the airbrush. Pics to follow after a sump pump install tomorrow.

That's a nice looking caboose but did the D&RGW or, even worse, the CB&Q, have any of those? I'm kind of surprised to see Rapido getting into the foobie business.
It also has some pretty good weight for a caboose.
they are pretty nice looking cabooses. I do like the fact you can use the lighting with the wave of a wand. If I had the spare cash I'e probably pick up a Conrail one or an undecorated version.
Those Rapido cabooses are nice, but are of CPRail prototype. CP would be the only railroad to have this exact model. The cupola height is too high for MOST U.S. cabooses. The only way a U.S. railroad had one of these is if they bought it from CP, or the cabooses manufacturer.
Correct. Both the D&RGW and CB&Q had standard height International Car Company cupolas, not the much taller CP version. They also didn't have two Canadian design smoke jacks and the CP maker lights. They are as much foobies as Athearn trying to palm off the wide vision caboose painted in UP colors as a CA-4. It's kind of ironic that Candian modelers have been complaining for years that US companies have been making foobie CP and CN rolling stock and now Rapido, the first mass production Canadian company, is making foobies of US railroads.

Yep, when I get into the sixty bucks a model territory I want it to be prototypical! Nice model though. Foobies help pay for the tooling & marketing, and lots of folks will buy them.
Even worse, look at the Rapido Cotton Belt model and then look at the real Cotton Belt caboose at

It looks like a nice caboose if I was modeling a Canadian road or freelancing, but I'm really unhappy to see a company like Rapido, which prides itself on getting
all the details of Canadian models right, releasing US foobies, even if does help pay the bills.
I tend to agree with you Jim, but as modelers who actually care about that stuff, we are in the minority. We are also unlikely to be caught buying something like this
From what I've found, most cabooses are foobies.
Not recently made cabooses. Older cabooses tended to be painted in whatever road color that sold but I haven't seen a true foobie caboose in a long time unless it was in a train set. Walthers is the biggest offender, with their International bay window cabooses in several foobie schemens, but Intermountian, Atlas, and Bowser have been doing very accurate cabooses for some years. Even Walters has done a good job with their wood SP and Santa Fe cabooses. This is step backwards for Rapido and modeling, especially at $60 a pop. It's also kind of a slap in the face to US modelers. After listening for years to Canadian modelers complain that US companies wouldn't make the correct prototypes for Canadian roads, we have a Canadian company making totally inaccurate US cabooses in return. Maybe it's payback.
They are nice lookin' cars but 60 bucks is quite a dig in the treasure chest.

CP, Ontario Northland and TH&B were original owners of this style van, CP having built theirs and the other 2 purchased them from NSC using CP design.

AFA foobies, I hear alot from LHS's that most of their customers buy based on road name or even colour scheme!
Bravo for Rapido for building such an incredible piece, even if a percentage of the schemes are just plain wrong. Heck, Athearn has been pushing their wide vision "foobie" for decades, and their model length is only correct for Rock Island, all others were the longer style, sim to Atlas.
Thank God for Foobies!
Imagine if Tyco years back had made only one roadname, they'd have sold far far much less quantities to be sure. That would have made them the price of a brass model just to recoup the R&D and M&D!

Sorry, I was referring to Athearn's cabooses. Atlas does have some nice ones, and Centralia Shops/Intermountain have some nice ones, Bowser has a nice N-8 that I want, but for the railroads I model, Athearn's cabooses (the bay window and wide view) aren't correct for the majority of prototypical cabooses I've seen.
