Business took me to Elkhart, IN last week. I was able to do some railfanning along the Norfolk Southern Chicago mainline.

With trains every 10 to 15 minutes or so, it's a great place to railfan, but the unrelenting black of the NS power does get me down after a while. Thanks goodness you can also see UP, BNSF and CPR on the line, too.

But the unrelenting black of the NS power does get me down after awhile--than goodness you can also see UP, BNSF and CPR units on the line! (And, if you are very lucky, a unit in Conrail blue.)

i actually happen to like the NS black. seems very elegant (if that word can be applied to these behemoths). but i agree, sometimes its nice to see some eye catching colorful variety

Good to see someone's doing business in Elkhart. That town has had a very rough go of it in the economic downturn.

Just change 'black' to 'armor yellow' and 'NS' to 'UP' and you've described my world. It's a neat day when I drive up towards Temple and see nothing but BN/ATSF/BNSF or the occasional CSX locomotive.

Heck, sometimes when I got to see my folks in Mississippi (on the NS mainline), I go to railfan at the depot, and catch only armor yellow or patched bloody noses, and feel cheated.
