This is a simple build straight from the box. A nice laser cut O scale kit with several options offered in its building. I am not putting in an interior on this building, though the kit does have basic interior partitions included, more for structual stability then to portray the actual interior. In the last shot the back wall is being glued to the lower floor interior bracing, and yes that is a real cannon ball being used as a weight to hold things tight.
Trim was all painted today which will allow the piece to be finished as soon as it dries completely. The kit supplied boardwalk was replaced with individual 1x6's for a better look. Roof's were test fitted as was the front porch.
... and yes that is a real cannon ball being used as a weight to hold things tight.

Nice touch.
Hotel looks nice too by the way.

Some more progress today, windows/doors all built and installed, side walkways installed after the building was mounted on the base. Porch columns built, they are five pieces and all required trimming on the 6x6's to get a solid fit on the base and cornice pieces.
Mounted the front porch again using the old cannon balls for weights. Shingles provided with the kit are laser cut thick paper, since this building is going toward the background on the clients layout he opted to use them instead of subsuiting individual wood shingles. Ridge cap (again heavy paper) was painted to simulate galvanized metal.
Porch railing was finished out then roofs mounted into tabs so they are still removabel for possible future lighting or interiors. Note that most of the windows (all double hung) were modeled partly open with shades behind them. All of the walkways and the front porch decking were done in individual 1x6's which look better then the sheet scribed decking supplied with the kit.
The last of tonights photos, open areas on the base recieved ground cover tonight and will be dry for final photos tomorrow.
Looks really good . Didn't the custmoer want it weathered a bit ?
Build was finished this morning, yes a bit of weathering was done to the roof but since this hotel was "the place to stay" in Mancos Colorado when the city fathers were trying to compete with Durango as the town of importance in the area the hotels walls were kept in very good condition. There is some weathering dirt on on the boardwalks.
Total build time on this kit was just a fraction over 16 hours.
The last shot shows the Hotel Lemmon next to the F.D. Works building as both of these are going to the same client.
