Hi, just found this site and I have a quick question. (or I hope it is!) BTW, big time beginner here.

Can't remember the model info but: when I hook up my power supply to a very simple 3ft diamter round track (N gauge I believe, about a nickel size in width) my little engine does not respond. However, when i place my finger accross both tracks the engine roars to life. (fwd or reverse)

very odd, the train and tracks are new and I followed all the directions. The leads from the transformer to the tracks are hooked up correctly...

Thoughts?

Hi and welcome. Yep I have just one thought about your problem. Look carefully at the piece of track that has the terminals for the throttle wires.
It's possible there is a loose connection where the terminal strip connects to the tracks. I suspect this because of you putting your finger across the track that the pressure of your finger more than likely makes the track touch the terminal strip connections making a good electrical connection for the electricity to travel to your train.
Hope this helps

Cheers Willis

I agree with Willis. It may also be the first rail joiner on either side of the terminal track is not making a solid connection with the other tracks so I'd check for that also.
