Im in the market for some curved turnouts and to me CV's are the most reasonable priced, for my budget.

I see they offer them as kits, which i assume you lay the rails your self, they dont come preassembled??

Please correct me if im wrong if so do they offer pre assembled curverd turnouts?

thanks for your time.

Mike

Mike, your correct, CV's turnouts are kits. You have to buy the kits plus buy the rail for them.... Ive heard there very nice and reliable kits, in fact, there one of the preferred turnouts for use on Free-Mo Modules.

Ill be using CV's turnouts for all my turnout needs from here on out.

The kits come as straight turnouts, but they are flexible so you can make curved turnouts from them. They also have seamless joints if you use the CV turnouts and Tie Strips together....

i dunno if im reading what your saying right but you can get them built and in built?

only reason i ask is because you say the kits come straight but are flexable.

The CV turnouts only come as kits, at least last time i checked thats the only way they came.....

The turnouts and Tie Stips are like flextrack, there flexible and the turnouts can be laid with a radius for a curved turnout.

You will need to buy rail to complete each kit as well. I would suggest buying rail in bulk, thats what im going to be doing, of coarse im going to be using the CV turnouts and the CV Tie Strips (both Mainline Ties and Branchline Ties) so i dont really have a choice lol. Ill be buying my rail from the PROTO 87 store

If you havnt already done so, check out the Central Valley Website for more information in the turnouts, tie strips, and super detailing kits for the turnouts - http://www.cvmw.com/

And here is the link to the PROTO 87 store that sells the rail and other stuff - http://www.proto87.com/turnout-points-and-throwbars.html

josh,

thanks for the info. Im not to familiar with handlaying, so it may be a while before i try unless i find someone to assemble them for me. all ther curved turnouts are a little out of my price range right now.

Handlaying a curved turnout isn't really that hard and it has a lot of advantages. Pre-built curved turnouts, except in a few cause, have a non-standard curved diverging route so you have to match your track plan to the turnout instead of the other way round. Pre-built curved turnouts also tend to be quite large, with some #6's and a lot of #8's. That fine if you have the space but make sure you get a template first before buying or you may be sorely disappointed. Finally, curved switches are about the most finicky piece of trackwork you'll have on the layout. Problems like being slightly out of gauge, points that are too blunt, or frogs that are too high or not wide enough will cause a derailment every time on a curved switch. If you can't find a way to avoid the curved switch, which I would do at all costs, at least build your own so you know it's right and will mate correctly with the rest of your track.

A few other advantages to CV switch kits- good value, EXCELLENT detail and NO clunky point assembly. I've built a few, and I'm never going back. I just with they'd make a selection of diamonds!

Hi all. I just ordered a CV turnout kit through Proto:87. It comes with the precast whilte bronze points. Does anybody know if the points are curvable, in other words, usable for a curved turnout?

I'd be interested in finding that out.

Cheers
