eng. sound control.
Can it be used for a sound system on my layout w/out it hooked up to the sound board inside an engine?
As long as you have the newer QSI sound systems found in the Atlas Gold line engines. It only works with QSI systems that have Analog Remote Control capabilities built-in. Walthers and Atlas both have the same thing with different labels. The Walthers model is scheduled to be phased out and I suspect the Atlas version isn't far behind.

Shucks, I was afraid you were going to tell me that.

maybe I can figure a way to use it w/the rest of my layout sounds w/speakers or somethin'. I was hoping to find a use for it since I got it so cheap.

Larry, it relies on analog signals sent through the track to a decoder that's equipped to pick up and encode the analog signals digitally. I really doubt it would be of any use except with the QSI decoders that it's designed to work with. Sorry.
