I kitbashed the "Yellow Box" kit AMERICAN CHEMICAL & POTASH CO into Prestage Tool & Gear.
I use gap filling super glue on this metal kit.

I like it!

I saw an article in RMC (cant remember which issue, but it was in the past year) where the author used regular aluminum foil and a piece of computer ribbon cable to make corrugated sheet tin. I wonder if I might be able to apply that technique then glue the resultant 'sheets' to a cardboard building to get this effect. I'm all for using basic materials like that to make a building rather than use a kit...

When I go to RR swap meets I look for these old "Yellow Box" metal kits. Because they were made to solder together many shy away. Also since these kits are dated most want newer kits that have more detail. I try to find these kits under $10. They also have a line of Mat-Board building that can be kitbashed. Here is one I got for $4.

Since I use them on the backside of my layout lack of detail does not matter.

Yellow box

Very nice job on the building and the whole module for that matter. Well done and thanks for the pictures.

All of those Metal buildings were originally made by California Models. I made about 6 of their buildings back in the early 70's & soldered all of them together. I also had 5 of their Cardboard(heavy mat)buildings. The one I can remember the most was the Furniture warehouse made out of Cardboard that was 2 stories high. I had those buildings on my diff. layouts for quite a few years. Finally one day when I was ripping up a layout I got rid of all of them. Back in their days they were some nice kits. They also made a few models of a long bridge made out of metal that was real hard to put together & I think that was one of their last models because not to long after that they sold the company. I think it was their downfall. In my neck of the woods I hardly ever see one of their metal kits at any of the train shows. I use to cuss up a storm putting those kits together w/a soldering iron.:rolleyes:

The kits were made by Suydam before California models.

That must have been way back because I've never seen any of those kits by that company. I'm not doubting you, I just have never seen any other than Calif. Models. Thanks for the Info though, I might start looking again. Thanks.:D

Some of the kits are still made by Alpine.

When I bought from Calif. Models about 1975 those kits were cheap. LOL
I had in the Matboard kits the #71,74,82,87,88,563 & the Metal buildings #22 w/3 of them connected together. On my metal bldg. I framed up the windows w/1/8th balsa so they were inset. Then I added a loading dock floor inside the whole building. I had those on 3 diff. layouts. I also had large vents on the roof. I saw some of those bldgs. on Ebay about 5 years ago & they weren't cheap.

Thanks Willie, I found some of his photos over on MRH, almost by accident.

And there is one thing (several actually) I don't like about their sites' software,...it does NOT notify anyone that someone has contributed to a subject they have participated in.
I much prefer the software utilized on this site.
